    The theme music was composed and recorded using only the Arturia MIcroFreak. The drums were programmed using a Korg Triton LE.

    No joke I’m basically learning how to synth listening to your rants!

    I'm glad digital has had a bit of a comeback. Matt Johnson of Jamiroquai was demoing a Moog One, and his best point was that one synth is not always good for everything. I've found that my digital synths (especially my trusty MS2000) have a sound that can comfortably sit in a mix with my analog gear. We are so spoiled to have these great tools for making electronic music.

    Man, before this series I completely wrote off the 'Freak as being a wacky, abrasive, and irritating gimmick machine. Now I'm dead set on one of these as my next synth, just your oscillator videos alone blew my mind with the ocean of sonic possibilities in this strange little french thing.
    Never change, Marc. You're covering ground that noone else even seems to attempt, and I'm learning a ton about synthesis in general from your channel. Can't wait to purchase the Microfreak now, it'll be my first Variophonic synthesizer :D

    One of the best Demo/gear presenters on TH-cam. I love exhaustive exploration of all features. Facts. I wait for these videos like some did w/ got. Etc.

    It's funny cos I watched the first 3 minutes twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything before hearing your mini rant. Your videos are required viewing from beginning to end :D

    Love these, ALL of them, for understanding wtf the microfreak IS and what it can DO. But I digress. I was born in a humble cabin back in the spring of ‘63....

    One of the (many, many) things I love about my MicroFreak is the way it gives me a completely different, but also very complimentary, palette of sounds compared to my Moog & Analogue Solutions synths.

    I find myself using the BP filter on this synth more than LP or HP. Great video Marc.

    Nice one!! Indeed what an amazing Synth I haven’t been as excited about something like this in..... I don’t know how long. Deep machine. Great Video

      Thank you, sir! Yeah, I keep telling people that this is one of my favorite synths, ever... and I only think the people who haven't used one can't believe that. I'm kind of frustrated that something so small and digital could wow me to the degree that it does! I often use it in conjunction with the MatrixBrute polyphony to make two-oscillator chords... which makes a huge sound. I wish there was some way that we could hang out!

    bro when I got into synthesis It was on a minilogue and I watched your videos on the minilogue way back then... but now I consider myself a expert after a couple of years and im here feeling like a noob all over again with this fantastic Maschine thanks for the info and explanations

    There are many of out here who can't take the time to do videos such as yours, but agree with your views and moralizing. For the price, this little guy makes a lot of great sounds that are not Saw Wave Filter Sweeps. Or Trombone sounds. Please accept my gratification for you and not only what you do but your views about the current state of synthesizers. Just because Moog refuses to remove themselves, from themselves, doesn't mean that is the correct way to go. Time and technology moves on and the best manufacturers take advantage of what's available and craft new and interesting synths. Please, live a long, healthy life...

    What synth engine would you recommend for fatty bass sounds on MF? Love your videos btw

  • @gvfq
    @gvfq 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think that the main point of the filter is to design the "footprint" of the sound, I agree that much of it is done by the digital osc so it would be redundant. It's there to shape how the sound evolves in time, which is the thing of the MicroFreak: modulation. By the standard sources (env, cycl env, lfo) + matrix and seq you get crazy "sounds", or phrases. That kinda make sense with having just 3 parameters for each algo: you can modulate those through time, they are usually about the interaction of this and that.
    The sad limit is that there aren't any kind of effects like reverb or delay that are all about the sound through time, with paraphoinc tails and sequencer the possibility to modulate ambient effects with the sound / seq would be cool.

    Hey Marc ! i have a question ... but first, really thanks you for this thouse videos, really help me to learn to use my microfreak, you are very gently to offer this content to us. And my question is .. what mean when you say "self-oscillation"? i cant understand . what happen with the analog filter when he is in "self-oscillation". ? sorry for my english..

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you push resonance very high, you start to hear the sine wave that the filter cutoff is currently on... so the filter is oscillating!

    you like the Freak better than the Brute?? I just got my brute, I think the 100% analog sounds of the Brute are way better

    • @azurduy117
      @azurduy117 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being able to make chords is nice, though. Love my Minibrute's analog tones, but being strictly monophonic gets mighty limiting fter a while. I get way more from the Microfreak.

    • @flarfadelic5654
      @flarfadelic5654 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the freak and the brute together are absolutely awesome!!! I use the microbrute for bass and use the freak for pads, chords, melody and lead. For creating in a DAW, I also use the brute to create more "voices" for chords on the freak, with overdubs, but it takes careful planning of filter sweeps to make it all sound like it's coming from one synth.....
