    **Here are the heated water bottles we have for our rabbits. They are pricey but this is our 3rd winter using them and none have stopped working. I'm not entirely sure when they will come back in stock!: www.allthingsbunnies.com/API-Heated-Rabbit-Bottle-p/wb109.htm
    **In our Amazon storefront there are cheaper ones, we have a had a couple of these only last one season so keep that in mind: {Earns Commission, Thank You}: www.amazon.com/shop/sageandstonehomestead

      Hi Heather.. I hope you stay nice and warm. I am no longer homeless..well we been staying in a hotel with a little kitchen in it. We been living here for 2 and half months. They rent out some rooms as a suite where they have a couch that pulls out to a full sized bed and they have a kid sized bed in the bedroom and a little kitchen. It's better than last year we lived in our car and we live in Rhode Island and we had 2 to 3 days in the negative digits and we got lucky and got a hotel room for those days. I know we would of froze to death. Our mini Australian Sheppard had her coat on and her heated blanket but the heat in the car wasn't working at the time and I am greatful and prayed to God and we made it three those tough days. I swear all the horrible things I have been threw in the past 3 years like losing our home to a fire. We owned it for 12 years and broke my heart to see it after the fire and I was greatful no one was home but deep down I was I was home I could of save our home. The fire started in the kitchen and i was at work for only 20 minutes when I got the call. Then my dad passed away 3 weeks later. I lost my mom when I was 32 she passed unexpectedly. And now dealing with the state about my family. I do alot of praying ! I am greatful that this hotel is isn't too expensive we pay about 650.00 a week. I have been looking for a apartment but I can't find a 3 bedroom under 2 grand. I know we pay that now but we don't have to pay for any utilities, and we have free wifi. We lived in the car for too many months. My husband had to get off social security and got a really good job. His back hurts him but he was given a better position and he is the boss of that dept and he doesn't have to do much of the hard work he gets to pass it the people who work under him. I want to say that you for your great vlogs you have taught me so much and me and my husband have been looking for places to live that has a bit of land we want to start our little Homestead. We figured better late than never. We are both in our early 40's and I think we can handle a few goats and chickens !!

    Got a few things done here at the house today. Harvested our carrots earlier in the week, and today we harvested our beets, chopped up what was left of our mustard greens and incorporated them back into the beds. Tomorrow it's not supposed to drop below 20 degrees til after the sun sets, so I'll be burying our blue berries that are in containers in the raised beds to help protect the roots.

    Looks like you were ready for the cold!! Water is always the most difficult to deal with in the cold. If you can block the wind, fill their bellies and keep water liquid the animals can handle the cold. I love your neighbor too!! Reminds me of several gentlemen in my community!! A good neighbor is truly a wonderful thing to have!!❤ We have about 4 inches of snow here with more forecast for this evening. The bird feeders are filled and they seem very appreciative! Thanks for sharing and stay safe!! 🙏❤

    Tori is too cute. We got ice/snow all through the night and it’s not supposed to get above freezing today and tomorrow here in NE Texas, that’s my biggest worry for my chickens. I do agree that there seems to be so many warnings? Maybe it’s because it’s been more of a fast development other times and hasn’t lasted as long? Not sure but so far not too too bad God willing🙌🏽

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's been okay so far here but we did run the faucets om drip overnight to prevent the pipes freezing! Will have to keep that up

    You KNOW that if you didn't have the camera on he would have walked with you like a champ. 😜😂
    We woke up to a couple of inches of snow, and it's still coming down. My LGD is LOVING it, the goats, not so much. 😄
    Unfortunately, I don't have all my infrastructure in place and wasn't able to get everything done like I wanted to because of dealing with the aftermath of my husband's recent heart attack (doctor visits, etc.). So right now I have a large stock pot of icy water on top of the woodstove and the rest of the 5 gallon bucket waiting to be warmed up. I will be breaking ice and putting it in the pot, filling jugs with the water and carrying it out to my critters later. Ya do what ya gotta do. Thankfully, I think this cold is only supposed to last to the weekend.

    I learn so much from you. Thank you. I, too, have a random question. If you are getting below freezing for a longer time, the ground will freeze somewhat. Will your mushroom spawn survive being frozen? I don’t know if the spawn is deep enough to be below the freezing level or if it will survive being frozen. I suspect it will be fine short term. I do hope it comes through. So much to think of!

    • @SageandStoneHomestead

      My mushroom guy said it should be fine! The snow we got will help insulate it as well.

    Is there a possibility that the rash on your arms is due to blister beetles in the hay?

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are none on the hay and it seems like they are uncommon here. Grass allergy is way more common :)

    Hey 👋 Here come the random questions that I like to ask!
    Are there any lamancha doe's that have a tight bond with a Nigerian doe?!

  • @learning2no
    @learning2no 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Why don’t the bucks wear collars and the does do? I have noticed in other herds the bucks don’t have collars on. Just curious as to why. More than curiosity I put a collar on my buck, and if I needed to take it off I would.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You want to just watch him. If there are no horns in the herd he should be fine, but bucks neck girth expands substantially during rut and you don't want it getting too tight. I worry about them getting caught while roughousing around too. The does generally need to be led and handled more than the bucks too, I usually just have collars on my milkers so I can guide them where I need them to go if needed. Winnie has a collar so she can be trained to lead well :)

    Hi Heather! What are your thoughts on the orchard grass? Fiancé hauls hay and that’s what we’ve got in big bales. We have problems with the seeds..cheatgrass looking pieces getting lodged in fur and eyes. Any recommendations for that? Also, I saw in a previous video you crocheted baby goat sweaters, what size would you recommend for Nigerian dwarfs?

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I can't remember how exactly I made those to be honest! I just kinda winged it! I've never had issues with the goats on any hay to include orchard grass! I've gotten hay in my own eye but it was just fine particles.

    • @courtneyrb2808
      @courtneyrb2808 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SageandStoneHomestead So far the only goats having issues with the eyes/seeds are our two smallest goats. I’m hoping it’s just this batch of bales, our alfalfa is just fine. I think I’ll play around crocheting too, we’ve got our first batch of kids hitting the ground in less than two weeks! Yay!
      Thank you soooooo much for all your help! You’re definitely “my” goat lady 🐐
