Spot-on assessment, thanks for pointing out the differences between this and a work jacket. As someone who purchased this recently hoping to do real work in it, I was a little disappointed with the lack of mobility due to the lack of gussets in the armpit and on the shoulders. Nice for what it is, and a fair deal on sale, but I'll probably just go with Duluth or Carhartt instead.
They have a wool lined version which does of course cost more. Personally I love the poly lining. After seeing a ton of YT reviews I feel like the only person who bought Havana color instead of the tan. I have a Patagonia jacket that looks very similar (non waxed and a lot more insulated) in the tan, so I wanted a different color in the waxed trucker jacket. I couldn't be happier with it. Makes a GREAT outer layer even in the winter. I went a size up from my usual jacket size because I wanted more room for layering. I live in the high desert where it can be below freezing in the morning and 60 in the afternoon. This definitely won't be the only Flint & Tinder jacket I own.
I picked one of these up about a month ago on your recommendation. I bought mine a size larger to get a hooded sweatshirt underneath. I consider it waterproof, maybe not all day waterproof but kept me dry after a hour of heavy rain. I wear mine as workwear and has held up good so far.

I picked up a grey version during a trip to NYC last month. I think I will re-wax the jacket almost immediately as it doesn't seem very waxy. Great jacket though and great price. Perfect for UK weather.

This year I decided to buy a waxed jacket, when I looked at the Flint and Tinder they now want $268! I decided for a bit more it might be worth getting one of the other choices and ended up getting a Freenote Cloth Riders Jacket for $360 after a promo code they sent me. That being said, I will still watch the Flint and Tinder jackets and if they go on sale I may pick one up, or a second hand one and use it as a chore jacket. Anyways, great review as always.
I ordered this when it first came out (the flannel lining in mine is grey herringbone). It was a bit tight when I first got it, and now I'm totally out of shape, and can hardly button it up. my advice, size up unless you know you are going to stay in the same shape forever lol.

Timely video. I recently compared this Flint & Tinder jacket to a Levi's Trucker and there was a lot to like... the waxed material, the lining, the fit. I ended up buying a different Flint & Tinder waxed cloth jacket instead that suited my style better. This jacket seems pretty limited to wearing over a T-shirt, which I almost never wear. The tan color is nice but my favorite is the olive. Super rich and interesting in person. I do wish it was lined with cotton but to be fair the blanket-like polyester lining is comfortable. I opted away from getting the wool-lined version (on closeout) because I suspected it would feel scratchy and it was a 50/50 blend with polyester anyway!

I have one and love it! My only complaint is the liner is hot… so hot I won’t wear this at any temp above the mid 60s. For reference, I’ve lived most of my life in Florida and southern California so I can tolerate heat, however, that polyester lining is just too hot. Anyway, I describe my wardrobe as a sort of a work-wear inspired surfer style 😂… if that makes sense; and this jacket fits my need for functionality and style perfectly!

@Matt S Filson tin cloth jackets aren't made in the US, but the Flint and Tinder is. The tin cloth is heavier at 14 oz material, whereas the sail cloth trucker is 7 oz.
I would class this more as a shacket, but it's still a cool looking piece. Carl, what about revisiting Gustin products? Great value and mostly American made!

As an outdoorsy woman, I really wish that flint and tinder would make a womans cut version. I could probably fit a mens small fairly well (i'm 6'2"), but the wide shoulders always make it look like im borrowing my husbands jacket.

I talked with a representative and they said usually the spring or when these jackets aren't in season. Makes sense since those online promo websites that make articles about this jacket when it's discounted have usually done it in February or March before.
You should try more vintage brands like Nigel carbon or freewheelers man and those prices might be very high but at least you have more decent clothing

@@CarlMurawski i was thinking Gustin too. most of their waxed gear is unlined. when its lined it gets pretty tight. the flint and tinder fits better without being boxy. i love much of my Gustin gear, prices are quite good and American made, but many of the shirts truckers and harringtons are like spandex on me, dont have that problem with flint and tinder.
F&T has great stuff... i got in on their original kickstarter campaign and the quality is awesome. Carl, if the cuff button bothers you so much, why not look into switching it out for a snap or something more unobtrusive?
I heard some waxed jackets might feel slightly sticky and might have some distinct smell. Would that go away over time? Also, what happens if you never re-wax the jacket? Would it just look and feel like any other regular jacket?

So I live in central California. It gets kinda chilly in fall and wet in Sprinh, this doesn’t seem like too much of a work coat but would it be used for very light work ( backyard campfire wood cutting, fixing football helmets)

I bought a levis denim sherpa dark wash but not that time any more bad time to would've got it but it was a bit cheaper cause a price drop and don't like the wash they made the truckers in that I wanted they made it have stretch.. the bleached one, so I got the HnM one cause FINALLYYYY a 10 dollar off sale something, will take a long while to deliver cause corona couldn't get the better shipping but still happy, and gonna try and waterproof both, and got smalls to cause I'm a toothpick also heya Indy ;) XD

The Filson cruiser jacket is a lot heavier but it’s well made with a lot of pockets and it’s true work wear i like both Carl is spot on with his review the waxed trucker jacket is still awesome

I know, unfortunately everything seems to be more expensive now... I still think its the best bang for the buck out there even at the current price. A step up would be in the $400 range like Freenote Cloth or Rogue Territory.

They make liquid tape and sell at Home Depot you can dab on the metal part inside the sleeve, it’s in the electrical section

I bought a levis denim sherpa dark wash but not that time any more bad time to would've got it but it was a bit cheaper cause a price drop and don't like the wash they made the truckers in that I wanted they made it have stretch.. the bleached one, so I got the HnM one cause FINALLYYYY a 10 dollar off sale something, will take a long while to deliver cause corona couldn't get the better shipping but still happy, and gonna try and waterproof both, and got smalls to cause I'm a toothpick

How’s the fit? Is it true to size? The website says to go up a size from what you normally get.

Yeah it is pretty short, maybe something a bit longer would suit your application better.
In the UK you can get a Barbour bedale or Ashby for way less than $200.. Maybe the tax stings you guys?.

Thanks for this video. You seem to have experience with waxed jackets . How would you compare this to the Filson short lined cruiser jacket? Specifically, is one more lightweight than the other or are both equal?
The Filson cruiser jacket is a lot heavier but it’s well made with a lot of pockets and it’s true work wear i like both Carl is spot on with his review the waxed trucker jacket is still awesome

I know, unfortunately everything seems to be more expensive now... I still think its the best bang for the buck out there even at the current price. A step up would be in the $400 range like Freenote Cloth or Rogue Territory.

I understand that it’s a cool and functional jacket but dadgum 178 is a lot of money for a jacket that I’m probably gonna take off at noon, plus I have a family of 6... this is a really cool jacket but how do you justify buying it?
2 years too late and double the price now, but waxed cotton jackets are supposed to last for almost a lifetime lol
