It's interesting how sometimes life teaches you that you can manage without having so many things that you once thought you couldn't live without. To every single thing there is an alternative.

That is the no. 1 lesson in my opinion. Most things we don't need except for the basics, and human relationships

I can wear a shirt for 12-15 to 20 years (except for wearing slightly more smart casual shirts and shoes when going out with my family), a pair of shoes for 5-6 years, I have perfume bottles that will last another 10 years for sure. I used some remaining baby shampoo (about 2/3 or a bottle) to wash my hair for two years. I`m having my own hair cut cause I am tired to school stupid barbers where I come from in advance about different stages in the process, including placing a mirror at the end behind my head, they seem not to know that, no wonder so many countries would gladly shit on the one I come from). In terms of food I am less frugal, though - I only need a little non-alcoholic beer and an alcoholic beer, a glass of wine and some icecream at least every three days. You can cut down on many, many things... but for sex and, only to a certain extent, on "spices" (wine, sweets). I mean, you can live merrily with few things, but not quite like a hermit, unfortunately I am too weak too avoid all pleasure and live in wilderness (also due to the confort I`ve got used to so far) and... to fornication desires. I don`t wanna hide behind the curtain. Anyhow, unfortunately casual sex often requires iving or showing off something which is the very opposite of minimalism, otherwise those partners may avoid you, thinking you are some "hobo"/"bushman"/"tramp".

Ana- No one could argue with your current skin care practice. Your skin is beautiful and radiant!
We have lived without a TV for 10 years now and we have never missed it. Except when basketball season rolls around, then my husband goes to a sports bar to watch. But he has never wanted to go back to owning one because our lives are richer without it.

I don't have a kettle. I was looking around for a very long time for one that I liked and then saw an electric kettle. I came to my senses and realized that I truly do not need one when I have been heating my tea water in a ceramic saucepan for a few years now while waiting to find the correct kettle. I saved myself from blowing money on something that will do what I am already doing.
I also clean my floors in the same way. I believe it's a very therapeutic and intentional way to show love to your space. Taking the time to clean helps me to appreciate my home even more. I even make my own floor cleaner.

The only one of these items I own is an ironing board. 90% of what I wear are cotton dresses, and they look awful not ironed. I've tried ironing them on the table, but that did not work. So, I will keep my old wooden ironing board. I loved this video. You're an inspiration.

How very interesting: as a disabled person I need my electric tea kettle. I own a blow dryer, but have only used it maybe 2x in the last 5 years. I adore my tracking bracelet as it literally helps me keep track of the many things I need to do so my health doesn't rapidly decline. After this: I'll give away my iron board, but not my toaster. You look very relaxed in this video and hive a sense of inner peace. It is so lovely to see. A burst of flowers blooming to You as inspiration and joy, instead of a greeting. But as always lotsaluv from Texas❤🌼☘

During the different seasons of my life, I have used a variety of kitchen gadgets and appliances. Some I have decluttered and will never need again, some I have bought recently. For example, when my children were little, a crock pot was indispensable. Now that there are 5 adults (and another one moving in next year) living in my home who have various work and eating schedules, I use my instant pot several times a week. I love your channel, because they hold no judgment and make me happy.😊

I'm trying to prepare to get rid of the biggest thing I own, my car. These daysI rarely drive anywhere. I have a wonderful e-bike that has a lot of cargo capacity, and is perfect for most of the errands I do. I think when things feel burdensome rather than useful it's time to give them up, but it does take some courage.

I would like to encourage you! It is really possible to have a rich life without a car. Imagine a world where every second person would let go the car. What a relief! In so many ways! And if there is sometimes the situation where you really need a ride, take a cab or get things delivered. It is always far cheaper and far more pleasant than having a private car.

Hello, Ana, Thank you for sharing these ideas, on what I call just simplifying my life! I too have made a decision to cook everything with one large and one small pan, and a medium saucepan for boiling pasta and such. No need for gadgets, such as air fryers, instant pots, woks, griddles, etc., on and on! Where to store it all?! The thrift stores in the US are filled with expensive appliances and gadgets that no one really wants or needs. If I receive one as a gift, I simply and nicely return it to the giver as "thank you so much for your generosity, but it is not needed." I cook most meals at home, and enjoy the simplicity of using my same items every day. Be well and happy.

I am the same with ironing, some towels work fine and don't have an ironing board. I have a blender but it's stored in the back of a cabinet! I've considered getting an instant pot but doubt I would use it enough like the blender! I am recently without a car so have to walk back and forth to work and that's my exercise! I do own a hair dryer and tea kettle but would still survive without them. I have been trying to save money for the future so am also trying to only buy what I need. Really gets you thinking on how simply you can live.. It was interesting listening to you Ana and you still remind me of actress Rooney Mara 😊

Because of the constant noise, that all these machines produce and which bother me very, very much, I rearranged my household 40 years ago - also only small washable rugs and all surfaces easy to wash. I remember once a vacuum cleaner-salesman at our door and I almost cried out loud, that I didn't switch to a "washable" household to now buy a vacuum cleaner!
Since we had 7 kids, all our cushions and sofas needed a washable cover, though. But I never regretted my decision. Additionally those disposable dust-bags cost a fortune!

I'm retired and live alone in a large house. I don't buy all the "new and improved" stuff. If something breaks or wears out, I think long and hard before I replace it. I have a small stick vacuum but usually just use a broom and a mop for floor cleaning. I have a big kettle but rarely use it anymore. I prefer a small pan/lid which heats much faster for my hot beverages.
I don't own an instapot. After my second Keurig broke within a few years, I decided not to replace it as it was wasteful and didn't make good coffee. I went to a pour over device which only cost a few dollars and makes great coffee. When my 15 year old blender broke, I waited a year before replacing it. I missed my fruit smoothies and a new blender was fairly inexpensive. So my approach is if it works well and suits my needs, I'll buy it. But there are few items I cannot do without! So if an item is expensive and doesn't work well or suit my needs, I don't buy it.
I'd also advise anyone looking to replace household items to check out local thrift shops. They usually have good usable items at a fraction of what they cost new! 🤗👍🍭

This is my favorite type of video you do. I love this discussion. Living in my car in the desert has been an exercise in minimal living. I found all the things you mentioned (that I have or used) are not necessary. I can get by just fine without my instant pot, although it is perhaps more necessary in Arizona summers when the outside temperature is 112 degrees and you don’t want to run the oven. But I think a better solution is changing the things you eat in the summer. Right now I have a single cooking pan and a single collapsible bowl, one set of cutlery, and I’m managing just fine.
I leave here to go back to my home base in 2 days. Very sad to leave, but I have doctor appointments to keep, and it’s getting hot out here.
Really enjoyed this video Anna. Love to you and Brian.

Hey, Ana, I really appreciate your take on things, I feel SEEN! LOL! I do have a vacuum cleaner, as my space is quite large, also the stairs collect a massive amount of dust and cat hair, but nothing beats the good ol' getting down on the knees and making the floors squeeky clean, it is also a form of movement meditation for me. What resonates most is what you said about pots and pans, as all my friends wonder how I manage to cook with such a minimal amount of utensils, but they just take up space, and having few of them makes the proccess more efficient! I rarely find the time to comment on your videos, but you have a regular watcher, and you're a huge inspiration! 🥰

I'm with you. I have an iron but no board. I've been using the kitchen table for years. I am a sucker for kitchen appliances, but I have narrowed it down over the years. Each one has to have several applications. No one note wonders. Lol! But as I get older I find these things help me to process my food in ways I can no longer do manually. I don't have the strength and my hands hurt. So these things are extremely helpful to me.

I'm a student, and moving soon (just to another floor in the same residence building) and realizing that there are things I brought with me have not used in the entire 8 months that I've lived here! I used to have a handheld electric beater I enjoyed using but when it eventually fell on the floor and part of the plastic body broke off I use usually a whisk. It happened that a few months later I stopped using that because that was only to make pancakes and I have quit doing that for now. So it goes during life that circumstances change and it's nice not to buy extra things, especially if you don't know where you might be moving to next year or so. Thank you for your lovely videos.

Hi Anna, you are looking good. Thanks for sharing this video. It resonated with me. During 2008 - beginning of 2011 I lived off the grid, with minimal "stuff". I loved it! 2011 I returned to the city to take care of my elderly parents. I live in a cottage with more stuff than when I was off grid (most of it gifted by friends) but I also don't use most of the things that you listed and I don't miss them. The only things on your list that I never own before are the fitness bracelet and the facial treatment gadget. I am all for working with what you have and we definitely don't need all of the gadgets available in the stores. Thanks for sharing your life with us. I am looking forward to your next video. Regards, from South Africa.

I've been trying to think like you do for some time now. The thought of "it's ok without it" has been helping me to let go of useless purchases and to actually use my money on things that I actually need. Your channel is very inspiring in many ways to my life, and I'm sure it is to many others too. Wish you the best❤

Hi Anastasia, thank you for this video. I'm glad that in the end you elaborated why you don't own certain things anymore as at the beginning I was not getting it (example: the kettle. I couldn't understand why you got rid of a kettle for boiling water on the hob, which is more energy consuming). It now makes all sense and I see that it's not you getting rid of stuff but just not buying stuff given the current situation. Thanks 💕

Hi Ana. No instant pot, toaster or ironing board for me either.
I also used to have a large selection of kitchen knives but now own just 2, a paring knife and a a Santoku knife. Those two do everything that a host of knives used to.
It feels good to own less. Now if I could only whittle down my craft supplies...

I have a stick blender for making purées and pastes, and for whipping cream. I also occasionally make butter, which is very hard to do completely by hand.
I'm not sure what an instant pot is, but I have a Remoska oven which I love because I can cook a small meal like a casserole for two people and it uses way less energy than a regular oven.

Very interesting concept of how these modern tools make our lifes so easy and fast and less mindful and physical intensive! Especially how it relates to the two-income households of nowadays and all those developments and the possible uprise of 4 day workweeks

Hi Ana! Great video! I work in energy, and if the environment is important to you, you might consider reintroducing a toaster and electric tea kettle. They're more energy efficient than using the stove top. You could find used ones that don't require the production of new ones. No judgment either way! Just something to consider, depending on your values/priorities.

Great list. Thanks for rhe food for thought! Smiling though, because I live in a tent and couldnt go without my vacuum--with access to electricity of course. I have a bed, clothing, art supplies and more, so being able to vacuum out the dust and debris that blows into all the nooks and crannies is key to a happy nest. 🏕️
Downsizing my kitchen gear is coming soon. Its so easy to borrow items I only need occasionally.

As usual, you have given us a very interesting and thought-provoking video. I have really loved hearing about the things that you no longer have and your reasons why. I have been minimising my life to make it simpler and so that I can spend my time and money on things that I value most. At first I was getting rid of unwanted items but now I am delving deeper to see whether it is possible to do without items that I enjoy using. Some of the items I am considering donating are on your list. I am doing it slowly so that I will have fewer regrets. My husband and I are reducing what we own so that we can move from our large home to a small apartment where our precious time will not need to be spent cleaning lots of rooms and organising belongings. By the way, your skin is positively glowing these days. Thank you.

As I get older, I realise gadgets can be a burden so be wise in buying. Think of the maintenance costs as well as cost per use. I also agree that hand work like scrubbing the floors or utensils can be therapeutic if you have the right attitude. I play music that I love and this keeps me in a positive mood when doing chores.

I agree a lot. I have been moving a lot and thus abstained from buying certain things. Lately I thought, finally I might stay at one place. But it turns out I will move again soon. Now I have a hoover and certain kitchen machines. I love them, but I know that they will add costs to my move. It is so true that when you are on a budget and you move a lot you think twice before you buy something and you learn that you are just fine without certain things.

I recently discover your channel Ana and loving it. I think you’re so genuine and real. I’ve been a minimalist for about 6 years and frugal for about 4. It has changed my life so much for the better. I must admit though, I still worry “a little bit” about how people see me, since I’m so different from how I used to be. So thanks for your videos and encouragement to be our real selfs x

I don't have a toaster, either. I realized I wasn't using it enough and it got really dirty inside and you can't reach in to clean them or take them apart so I got rid of it. I would like to get a rice cooker though because I think I would use it a lot.

Hi Ana! I totally agree with you about most of this, particularly the fitness bracelet. I do wonder if it is more economical to use an electric kettle rather than the stove to heat water, or the Instant Pot, but I understand your motive. Not cluttering your space with "timesaving" gadgets is a great idea.❤

I am down sizing as well for things I don’t use anymore. 7- yrs not using my food processor, extras spatulas, watermelon tool, coconut tool. Feels good I sold them. Right now I feel I am at a good space with all the things I have. Got my husband to weed out garage- man cave damn the stuff we collect. He was not happy but why do you need 15- jackets you haven’t worn in 8- yrs! Broken coat stand he tried to glue stop it - it is garbage. I have tightened up a lot book to sold them I do not plan to use. I continue to weed as I see stuff that doesn’t serve me. I just can’t take all the fatness of all that meaningless. You have to look at your stuff!

I always struggle with washing the floor with mop and bucket to the point where the other day I just went over it with water and rags to get the worst of it off. It was so much nicer for my brain to deal with.
Hate the noise from the vaccume and currently in downsizing mode however house is too big to not have one at this stage.
I also like having the stove kettle (the ones that whistle when ready) that my friend has though I still have my electric kettle.
I never use my ironing board and rarely the iron so that's going. I had to throw out my toaster and have been making do with the grill that's in the oven on the rare occasions I have toast.
I can't even remember the last time I used my hair dryer (since I've had it really short last 3-4 years).
Have a blender and used it for like the first two weeks and it's just stayed in my cupboard since then.
The way society is built and growing is not really suitable for humans and mental health. There are fantastic inventions that help people with disabilities yet most of them are designed for "saving time" so people can be slaves at work 24/7 instead of enjoying the humanness of looking after our abodes and basic needs.
