Joyce Carol Oates is one of the greatest writers of all time. I appreciate how she explores every aspect of the human condition. She should have won the Nobel ten or fifteen years ago. Daddy love is a book I will never forget.

Oates ripped off #FlanneryO'Conner then pretended she didn't.

The novel "Blonde" was so fantastic. I started reading it and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it - and I'm very dyslexic.

My favorite author. -So wonderful to see her sensitive open soul in this interview. I didn’t know about her being up for a Nobel prize.
I don’t t know if this tape is fairly recent. Hope so.
Her novel “Blond” that she referenced about Norma Jean Baker/Marilyn Monroe is a tour de force. I love her writing style that often breaks the rules of sentence structure. As if we are shown how our mind really thinks or constructs. Her understanding of human nature / psychology and ability to develop characters of all types is astounding.
So glad to see her interviewed !
I also ran across her in snippets throughout one Marilyn biography just yesterday.
But this interview here was gold.
Never before have I come across this program.

@@SkavlanTV My first visit to your home. Yes, I do consider that studio must be like a home for you, I enjoyed your interviews , and wondered how much input do you have re the choice of guests. These are an eclectic bunch, and not one you'd automatically choose. That's probably why I liked it, the correct recipe, making it food for thought.

I can't get over the coincidence of happening to find this video today. More than 50 years ago, I was a student at the University of Detroit (now called the University of Detroit Mercy). I was an English major there and did both my BA and MA in English. I never was privileged to have Joyce Carol Oates as a teacher because she mostly taught the Honors Classes, and I never measured up to that level; however, I also worked in those days at the Quad Libet Club (i. e. the Faculty Club). I was so honored to just be in the same room overhearing Dr. Oates in conversation with the other faculty and deans and president. That was in the days of the so-called Detroit-Riots....and I remember reading Them.

Her writing fascinates me. I discovered her and can't seem to put her down. Every Nook novel of late is by Joyce Carol Oates and I've only just begun. After reading my first JCO Blonde I was hooked. No matter where I am, what I am doing or how I feel there is this feeling that at the end of the day I have one of her novels to take me away. It's thrilling. There is nothing quite like escaping into one of her stories.

She's one of my favorites too, if not the fav.I agree with you about her character development.Sometimes I feel that her female characters are the same character, but I also love her writing style.I saw her read in the 80's.

I‘ve never been a reminiscent person until recently, bc the current times are super off-putting. But Joyce Carol Oates lived through some very interesting and hectic times, so I definitely want to see how a great writer explains these things.

Scaramucci seems so insecure and ego driven. Mentioning how much staff he has, how much is company is worth, how Trump called him out - all in 30 seconds! While the women have deep conversations about ethics and family and human nature. They are at the top of their fields but they don’t need to brag! Wish they had someone deeper instead of Scaramucci

What is the topic of the book 'Life As A Rat'? Did I get the point? Not sure. I don't think I will get a guest spot since I'm not really intrigued. OK... well... YES I AM... But, is 'Life as a rat' a book that covers this topic of 'water as compared to the thickness of family blood ties and loyalty to your family as a child that is construed as small-minded?' Right? I'll read it so I can find out how sickening this topic is and how we need a 'reformation' and if that reformation is moving towards or against shutting down child sex traffickers. She wants us to read it and move towards Global thinking or did she get a guest spot for praising the agenda of this talk show when Dr. Ruth was speaking to a host? Maybe I am just not getting the point of the book... "Life as a rat". And what is the target age group of this book and is it approved by the public school system for our children to read because if it is... ooooooooooooooooooooo.... Because. ther media source stated the New World Order had been defeated... uh... Or did it just rename itself... Globalism? It this really the topic... 'Life as a rat'... what? Read the book and think about Trump jumping overboard?

I do think that the sadness of being alone might be made worse by the sadness of two terrible hairstyles! Which might be the reason for being alone! There is no reason why we can't at least try to look neat, well-trimmed, and tidy, is there? There is no virtue in having a dreadful hairstyle or in looking awful. Nor is there any reason to have the same hairstyle your whole life if it is not attractive on you. For heaven's sake, take care of yourself because you love yourself. Have some self-care and self-respect! If you have no idea how to look nice, go to a salon with a good reputation and let them fix your hair and teach you how to improve your appearance. You will feel so much better, and you might not be alone for much longer unless you want to be.

She is a true artist, by artist I meant the way she convey her writings through emotions and thoughts that normally ties to your life. You see a lot musicians, and other creative professionals go into depression because when you express yourself, it is based on your life outlook, you are left with these raw emotions derived from it and it can leave you into a dark hole , even darker if you have especially lost a loved one.
