I lost my wife of 43 years to cancer three years ago. I am sixty nine now and basically have been marking time until I can go and join my wife. Your video touched a chord within me, you are so right, life is what you make it. I have been inspired by what you have said and have decided its time to start living again. I will never forget my wonderful wife, I know that she would not like me sitting around waiting to die, so, for whatever time I have left, I am going to embrace life. Thankyou so much for your emotional and touching video. You have touched my life, so thankyou very very much.
We all have an innate desire for security; and the concept of "home" is part and parcel of feeling secure. Realising that "home" is lost, not just temporarily, but forever, is like hearing about a close relative's death. You need to grieve the same way, because you realise that life will never be the same again. An era is over, together with its emotional securities. "Home" is like a secure base for a small child, usually a parent to return to the child can rely on to get comfort whenever he or she is in need. When you lose "home", you lose your secure base, you are emotionally homeless. So it is no surprise that you cry on this video due to the recognition of that loss. I admire you for allowing yourself to be emotional in public. Being honest about one's emotions is a strength, not a weakness. Best wishes, Peter
having only recently discovered your channel i have to say ive found it one of the most interesting and enjoyable on here. Your honesty and true personality shines through and its addictive listening to and watching you . It feels like ive known you for ages its all so comfortable and heart warming. Long may this channel continue.
You are such an honest, refreshing and raw individual. I definitely think it’s a part of growing up, not just moving away. As you said, you’ve changed in the years you’ve been here so you see ‘home’ and the people there differently. There’s an element of sadness in growing up for all of us, leaving school, the friends, your hometown but look at what you have achieved by taking a step that some people only dream about. You should be insanely proud of yourself! So glad I stumbled upon your videos! Wishing you all the happiness and success you deserve.
I really Don't know why the Canadian High Commission in London hasn't recruited you as a Goodwill Ambassador for Canada. Your videos, even those that don't interest me, are some of the best that TH-cam has to offer. Don't worry about crying. Seeing real emotion nowadays is a rare thing. Great to have you in Great Britain now and, hopefully, always.
There's nothing wrong with crying infront of friends.. and thanks I needed this video.. just started a new job 2 days ago and was regretting leaving my old job and friends for this new one which felt very overwhelming and different at times but we have to persevere.. so thanks again and keep smiling!
Bless ya. Don"t worry about crying. It's a real emotion and shows you care about what you're saying. As always, loving your work and glad to have you here.
The hug thing was something that crossed my mind too due to the vulnerability during this video, so I'm glad to see you say as much because it's a shame that it will be perceived in the wrong way when coming from a bloke.
@@AthAthanasius I think the perception that a man wanting to empathise with a woman these days can be misconstrued. It seems to be a fine line these days. It could easily be taken as harrassment or worse, even though it is a genuine moment of solidarity.
This is your best video yet. You are open, honest and friendly , we (the UK) are lucky to have you here 😀 and I hope you stay for as long as you wish and always see this little island as one of your homes . I visited Ontario this year along with West Canada too and fell in love with your wonderful homeland! Keep making your videos there Great! 😁
What I've always loved about you is your honesty. I can totally understand what you're saying about "you can't go home again" - it's just not the same because we've changed. Great video sweetie!
Sometimes the internet is a bad thing, stirs up hatred and makes people cross. Then there are channels like yours, that show that we're all in this together and life and the world can be wonderful. We are all glad you are here - keep doing your thing! PS, you were 20 miles away from us when you were at Stonehenge - you should have dropped in for tea and a bun!
Not only I am learning English "with a Canadian touch" with your videos, but now in some way, you have started to be "a part" of my life, during the minutes that each video lasts. I guess it is weird to feel something like this towards someone that I don't really know in person, and that also doesn't even speak my language (I'm the one who is learning yours). I just love your videos. Maybe I'm your Spanish fan 'número 1'!! Thanks for being there Alanna.
Congrats on being in the UK for three years! We are lucky to have you here. I understand how you got emotional talking about going home. My husband is Italian and has lived in the UK 15 years next month. Very little has changed where he comes from, but he has changed just as you have. It's ok to get emotional, it's a huge step to move to another country and start afresh. I admire you for making that change. You have a great outlook on life and it's good to be thankful for everything that you have in your life. Hope you have a great week. Take care.
You preface the video by saying it's going to be self indulgent, then give us 15 minutes of smart, kind and selfless thoughts. England is a better place for having you here.
This is the best type of Internet content. You are not telling others what will or won't work or what to do but rather saying how it is from your perspective. I am a 46 year old man and your video has resonated so much with me. For you can never go home you could just as equally state you can never relive the past and letting it go is the only way to be in the present and look forward. If you ever come to Wales I'd love to buy you a pint
Oh girl your living my dream! I would give my right arm to live in England if just for a year! Thanks so much for sharing the awesome photos!! PS I bet your parents are very proud! 😊
Thanks for bringing some sunshine into sometimes dreary days :) The saying "Home is where the heart is" is true and going "Home" after living away can be both comforting and unsettling. Everyone there has moved on with their lives and you remember it as a fixed point of time (or at least it was like that for me :) ).
Lovely video. I emigrated to the UK 30 plus years ago and have loved it. Eventually, you will find that your "original" home becomes more alien to you - so going "home" on visits becomes more and more alien. I'm from Ireland and the Ireland of 2018 is a very different place to the one I left in 1986. I bet you will find that Ontario in years to come will become a very different Ontario to the one you left behind.
@@larrybxl5406 Conversely, I actually think Ireland is a much better place than it was in 1986 - and possibly the UK isn't. But I've made my life here and all my friends and family are here - so I have no regrets. If I was in my my 20s and living in Ireland today and I don't think emigration would be on my list of things to do.
I can relate to this concept, My Dutch (now deceased) wife moved to the UK immediately back in '74 & although we would return to Holland 2/3 times a year for vacation & family / friends visits, she never wanted to "go back" permanently. She felt that after a few years England was where she had made a new home, was less "busy" than than her home country, & a nicer place to live.
You don't even have to move that far to feel that way. I moved to Cardiff (Wales) from my home town of Barry (only 15 miles away) and moving back after ten years I felt like an outsider.
Kind of on topic. My Dad used to be in a famous band and he pushed me into being a drummer. I was taught by a famous drummer myself (at expense) but my heart wasn't in it. I'm not even beginning to, nor will name drop. I just appreciate your comments. Sometimes you just don't feel ready. Am I a good drummer? The guy who taught me, said I was was better than he ever was. The point is. You do and go with what your heart feels and I for one, am glad you came here and that video really hit me hard as I have been through a few similar experiences. Take care and I am glad you consider us a part of home now.
Hi Alana, wanted to just say how much it has been a pleasure watching your videos. It takes a lot I should imagine moving to another country and then living through what must have been truly anxious times for those first six months. Don't feel embarrassed about crying on camera everyone gets upset in life over something or the other. It's good to know your living over here. Best of luck for the future!
Hi Alanna, it was actually very nice to see another side to you which you could have edited out, i am so glad that you left it in though. It's sometimes good to let go of those built up emotions and you will feel better for it. Always remember that you now have over 23,000 friends to give you a virtual hug any time you need it. You are a lovely young lady with a great personality and i always look forward to your "show" each week. All the best to you and have a great life.
Hi Alanna, thanks for yet another awesome video. Well done living in England for three years. I was born in Sydney NSW and moved here to Melbourne in 1981. Despite being born in Sydney, I have now lived in Melbourne longer. It is hard to believe. Moving to any new place takes a lot to become used to and it can be hard getting past all the differences. Honestly, Sydney and Melbourne are like two different worlds and it felt like living in another country after moving here. You are giving excellent advice and I can definitely identify with what you are saying. I have only lived in two homes. The home I have now and the home in Sydney, which was originally my parents place. I lost my mum at 9 years old and my dad passed away when I was 25. I am also an only child and from the time my dad passed away everything changed. For a while, I thought my world had completely ended, but I refused to give up. I am now married with two grown up children and life is great. Incidentally, I love your office. I have a chair similar to your chair here, though I am still working at it making those cool sounds that yours does. LOL. I just want to say, you seem like a truly lovely person and I really enjoy watching all your videos. You are really making a difference in our lives. I feel very privileged to know you. Thank you so much. Take care and all the best. Robert.
After watching this I've made my mind up and I will sign up to the Navy. So glad I found your channel last year, whatever you talk about seems to always make sense so don't worry about it. Thanks!
@@kacchank8696 Not that I know of, though I'd guess about as much as I am Canadian. Which I'm not, but then thats not the point of the video at least to me.
When I lived in the UK for a few years after moving from Australia, I was amazed at the strange little things British people seem to know about Oz. Like they all knew this old kid's show called 'Round the Twist' that every kid in Australia grew up on. I was like "how in the actual hell do you know about that?!" - also the marmite/vegemite rivalry is fierce. The Brits are so proud of their products and so are the Aussies, when they're essentially the same thing. My favourite thing about the UK was getting trains around the country though. The stations are all so impressive and watching the beautiful countryside rush by is like heaven to an Aussie.
Loved Round the Twist. That was such a popular show in the UK. A lot of Aussie shows are. I love Aussie and Kiwi films especially the horror ones. They haven't sold out to the murican market like British films have and are so antipodean which gives them a uniqueness needed to give us a change from the samey US\UK tripe.
@@Gambit771 You should check out a band called DMA's if you want to see how strong British culture is in Australia. People replicate it to be cool. I really can't think of another country that has such an insatiable appetite for everything British, maybe Ireland?
I'm so happy you've grown so much since I started watching you and as a girl from England it makes me feel proud of my country for making you feel so comfortable and at home. Even I got a bit emotional when you did haha!
I’m so, so happy I subscribed / found your videos. You’re just the most kind and genuine person. Watching your videos cheer me up so much. You’re funny, sweet and honest. I, like many of your viewers, I’m sure, also enjoy to hear the little differences between our countries and, as well as highlighting those quirks, you make them funny and understandable. I hope you have three more amazing years!!
Alanna, that was quite a contrast to the pudding tasting session. Something I've found on my travels is that regardless of the regime, type of government etc people are pretty much the same; they want to earn money to pay the bills, put food on the table, clothe the kids and have a good time. One big advantage of social media is the ability to stay in contact despite the vast distances between loved ones; some of my family who emigrated to the USA in the 1860s never had that and never saw the native contingent ever again. A couple of things; 1. I didn't see Norwich in your montage. You must visit. 2. Don't worry about getting emotional on camera, you've got 23,000 subscribers happy to buy you a drink- that would be one hell of a night.
You hit the nail right on the head when you commented on the contemporary demand for 'instant gratification' - instant, no effort 'success' - you're so right. I recall reading an advertisement in a pop music magazine when I was around 14. The ad ran something like: Learn to play the guitar in ten easy lessons, absolutely no skill required. Yeah, learn to strum. Really like your vids and so so pleased you got around to feeling at home amongst us.
I loved this video more than anything. I feel you on the whole “home” thing. I was born and raised in England but moved to America when I was 15. I’ve been here for 14 years and even though it feels like home, England will always be home. I haven’t been able to leave the US the entire time I have been here, due to some complications. But I’m finally moving back to England in January! It’s going to be a very weird experience. Because I’ve changed so much and things have changed but also stayed the same. Your videos are great! They’ve really made me feel better about moving back to the UK and trying to get acclimated and whatnot. You’re an inspiring person. And I’m really glad you’re enjoying living in Kent. ☺️
Awww you're such a sweetie. Canada's loss is our gain. I left 'home' at a young age (16) and have since worked throughout the world, during which time I formed lasting relationships with many people from many countries. With the exception of two good friends - whom even now I'd love to recontact - I've been lucky enough to hold on to every single one of my friends and family from throughout my entire life, including my school days (I am now nearing retirement age). Home is where the heart is, as they say. For me, home is in plenty of places and times across the planet. My Great Grandfather had two sons. One left England to move to Brantford Ontario and the other (my Grandfather) remained here in England. So we have two large branches to our family tree, but 4 generations later we are connected by social networking. My lifelong connections, friends and relatives, facetime me from the different places where they are living around the world. I feel as if I am still connected each day with much of my life and I love it. I wonder if 'home' is simply a geographical place or is it much more complicated than that? I'm not sure if that question is important actually. Only academically. What I do know, is that our riches are in our relationships and I would recommend that you never lose even a single one of them if you can help it.
This is a really charming video, and I'm so glad you grew to love living in England. It must have felt hugely different/alienating at times, but you know, we're good people deep down! Really enjoy your videos.
All that you've said in this vlog tells me that you are an intelligent open minded girl growing up fast. Your maturity is impressive and I only wish that many more people could be like you in the way that you relish new experiences rather than whingeing about them as so many sadly do. Keep up the good work and good luck to you!
I've decided that I know why I like your channel Alana. It's a conversation. So many channels are so opinionated and preach at you. Your's is a conversation which I want to jump into all the time. It's an absolute delight. My home hasn't been home for over 40 years and although it is still in the family, my niece lives in it now, she has remodelled it so much that it is no longer the house I was brought up in either. I moved from Aberdeen to Glasgow and that became home for 10 years, and then I moved to London with my wife and this has been home for 35 years. I don't consider anywhere else home now. But I totally understand the tears. Just sometimes that feeling of longing or loss of something of your childhood creeps up on you and takes you by surprise. Another fantastic video. Thanks .
Yay for opening your heart to new adventures! I fell in love with a Canadian and did the expat dual citizenship process a few years ago in my early 40s. You’re never too you nor too old!!! Loving your channel!
Awwwww, you're so sweet, don't cry. Absolutely love your honesty and the open minded way you look at life experiences. You are a huge ray of sunshine and massively inspirational. Keep posting these great videos :).
Well I didn't expect to cry when clicking on this one Alanna 😀 I think it's great that you're able to reflect on how you have changed, and about life experiences - always makes me emotional too.
Alana I'm not sure how I even got to your channel. All my other subscriptions are engineering or tech But every Tuesday I look forward to watching someone with something genuine and interesting to say. It's put over in a way that's YOU and not just for the internet! I'm a 55 year old hard hearted 'northern bloke' and watching this I learned something and she'd tears with you. Whatever you do in life, you'll go far with your outlook You have a good take on life I wish you all the best in the UK and hope you do well if you stay here

I look forward to every Tuesday like I’m meeting up with an old friend. So once again, thank you for all the videos and here’s to many more adventures and naps. #YBLC
This was truly a lovely video. I left the area where I grew up at the age of 25, but only to move 7 miles away to the other side of town. Another 25 years later I moved back to where I came from, and could not believe how much it felt like coming home when I was suddenly among the people I grew up with again, or rather who had friends in common. Even though only 7 miles separated them, I moved from a culture of people who kept themselves to themselves, back to a culture with a sense of community and camaraderie. I am truly home now, and I'm not leaving until they carry me out in a box.
Goodness gracious! You had me filling up with tears. Been there regards adapting. I totally get the 'home' analogy. I consider my hometown somewhere I only lived for a very brief part of my life. Totally get the emotion.
Alana, I was not expecting this to be so deep! You got me crying too. You're so right though. Life is short and we're not here for long. I try to be grateful for everything in life, from the big things to the little experiences.
I just left. My family home a week ago and even though I’m in flats with wonderful people I have been feeling really low and anxious. You’re very brave and insightful and I know next video might be tasting a weird food you found but this one was well timed for me. I hope you’re with us for many more years.
Happy that you showed patience. otherwise we wouldn't have your great vids, you showed passion and emotion, keep your chin up and keep the vids coming. Good luck and health :)

Three years ago I took up a new job in the North of Scotland, so yeah this video does make sense in the true Adventures and Naps rambling way :D Thanks for having us along on the journey!
As if she isn't adorable enough already, she goes and gets all emotional and seems vulnerable during a video when I started watching this thinking her anxieties were a thing of the distant past.
Being thankful for all the great things we have in our lives shows wisdom and perspective. Reflecting on them can make us emotional. Sharing them with others takes courage. A touching video.
I know how you feel. I've been here since the last few months of 2004, permanent since 2005. This is my home now. I understand when we think of home, it us usually where our family is/where we grew up, and it can be very emotional to think about. Sending you hugs.
Yet another great video. You're one of the nicest, most honest and genuine people on TH-cam. Always cheers me up on a Tuesday. Keep up the excellent work! 😀
I understand what you are saying i felt the same way when i left the family home, its not on the scale that you did but i think the feeling is very similar. The way i view your home part is Canada is not your home anymore England is, Canada is your roots and i think that is on some level why you got the feels during this video. Your a trooper and thank you for your consistant and genuine video posts 🙂
This is my favourite vlog you've ever done. I totally know what you mean about never really being able to go home, after moving to a new town when i was 18. Thanks for another lovely one 😊
So I been watching your videos for 3 years now it's flown by . What I've learned from watching all your videos is your a lovely young lady . Where's the video gone with the radiators in it have you took it off I miss the really long radiator 😂 well done 👍
You are such a lovely person. We are glad you are here. England can, at the moment at least, say "We have an Alanna" and be proud of the fact. Love all your videos from Bread & Butter Pudding with Sultans (cracked me up!) to Air Conditioning. Don't stop what you are doing. We love you, your funny (yet insightful) observations, your honesty, your ways, your just being you.
What a lovely moving video milestone. I’ve watched you over the last three years while going through my own quite different life changing time and I have to admit you got me in tears too. It’s doubly moving as my own kids are approaching the age where they will go off on their own life adventures. I already barely see them so it’s bitter sweet but I hope they have as many fantastic adventures (and naps) as you. Thankyou so much for the videos up to now and keep them coming xx.
When you lived at home Alanna, your life is what your parents made it. Life for you now is what you make of it. I moved to England in '89 with £300 in my pocket and a guitar on my back. Like you, I built a life. That is such a special thing and as you said, it's a privilaged thing. It was an education and an affirmation for me. Embrace your new life Alanna and build on what you have started. You have a wonderful life ahead of you there in Kent, ..the garden of England. Your accent makes you stand out. Embrace the uniqueness of that. You have lived and experienced more in the last three years than many people do in a lifetime.. Well done you! ..You should be very proud of yourself and what you have achieved so far...
I hope this doesn’t sound patronising but you are very wise for someone so young. Well I don’t know how old you are but you look kinda young. Welcome to England 🏴 I’m glad you feel at home here 😃
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I do understand what homesick is, but you have to take heart that with communication as it is now, you are never too far away. Without You, there is no "home", and that is what makes it. We are all different and thank goodness for that otherwise there would be one heck of a queue for what we liked. We should try to experience as much as we can, then we are entitled to have an opinion on it. Well done, and thanks for being here.
We love that you cried, of course talking about your home can be emotional. You are a lovely young lady, Your parents must be very proud. Us Brits love your sense of humour and your humility
Side note, I get the whole 'feeling weird' about something that gradually starts to become normal and then enjoyable. I might not be moving but I'm writing a novel, and recently it started to become great fun! Your videos, your humour, definitely contributes to keeping me and others super grounded, so thank you for that!
Crying is just another human reaction. Why do people feel ashamed of that? Thank you for showing us one of the most beautiful parts of being human which is our emotions.
It's so nice watching your videos on your expectations and experiences of living in the UK and how you feel about now calling it home, just lovely and frank and humorous vlogs. 😀

Hi Alana, I have to say, canada's loss is very much our gain. I love the fact that you are here
Oh girl your living my dream! I would give my right arm to live in England if just for a year! Thanks so much for sharing the awesome photos!! PS I bet your parents are very proud! 😊
Great video. Very profound. I'm sure that will help many people in a similar situation to you. I hope the future is bright and all goes well.
I bit of crying is merely human and you are entitled to be human. A hugely optimistic and inspirational video. Well done.
Oh, our girl is growing up. Great, emotional video.
Robert.
It's incredible how relatable this video was, especially today. Sorta cathartic, I needed that. Thank you
After watching this I've made my mind up and I will sign up to the Navy. So glad I found your channel last year, whatever you talk about seems to always make sense so don't worry about it. Thanks!
Shes miltary?
@@kacchank8696 Not that I know of, though I'd guess about as much as I am Canadian. Which I'm not, but then thats not the point of the video at least to me.
@@welshman100 i see joining the navy. U help protect queen and country.

Brilliant video and I'm glad you stuck with it, Kent is better for it.
They showed it on the television my children loved it
Yeah they showed Round the Twist here in the 90s, just like Neighbours and Home & Away...it's not that weird is it?
Loved Round the Twist.
That was such a popular show in the UK. A lot of Aussie shows are.
I love Aussie and Kiwi films especially the horror ones. They haven't sold out to the murican market like British films have and are so antipodean which gives them a uniqueness needed to give us a change from the samey US\UK tripe.
@@Gambit771 You should check out a band called DMA's if you want to see how strong British culture is in Australia. People replicate it to be cool. I really can't think of another country that has such an insatiable appetite for everything British, maybe Ireland?
Round the twist HA no way I remember watching that when I was little. Had a crazy catchy theme song!
Thank you so much!!!
Another well made and insightful video, Really admire your confidence in committing to the move to England and glad to hear it grew on you eventually!
i literally subscribed to you for your random opinions on british stuff but i needed this today, thank you! x
Sweet video. Lovely pictures. Here's to the next 3 years.
Your mother and father must be very proud of you, you are a very nice person 👍
And cute and funny! And intelligent.
Congrats on the 3 years! Here's to many more! 🍻🥂
We are lucky to have you here with us 😃🇬🇧🇨🇦🇬🇧🇨🇦
I loved this video more than anything. ☺️
Thank you so much, all the best for your move!!
Thanks ☺️
I watched your video twice. 😊. Good job! You really put your heart into this one.❤️
Alana
I'm not sure how I even got to your channel.
All my other subscriptions are engineering or tech
But every Tuesday I look forward to watching someone with something genuine and interesting to say.
It's put over in a way that's YOU and not just for the internet!
I'm a 55 year old hard hearted 'northern bloke' and watching this I learned something and she'd tears with you.
Whatever you do in life, you'll go far with your outlook
You have a good take on life
I wish you all the best in the UK and hope you do well if you stay here
Hi,watched you for ages and just like to say thanks.
Thanks for your insight and thoughts. you would be a great counsellor.
Have a great Xmas.
I suffer from anxiety and I’m really in awe with you putting yourself out their in public on TH-cam.
Thank you so much for making this video! Every week I enjoy your videos but it is this video I found particularly thoughtful and moving. Your honesty and sincerity you display in your videos has helped me immensely in feeling less alone these past months and they always bring a smile to my face. I look forward to every Tuesday like I’m meeting up with an old friend. So once again, thank you for all the videos and here’s to many more adventures and naps.

Really powerful & insightful video . So pleased you didn't quit & go back to Canada - your videos are so positive.
aww this was a great update I'm so glad you have the outlook you do. Just have the best Christmas and New Year. x
Goodness gracious! You had me filling up with tears. Been there regards adapting. I totally get the 'home' analogy. I consider my hometown somewhere I only lived for a very brief part of my life. Totally get the emotion.
You are a lovely person with a fantastic attitude. Honest, decent and intelligent.
I don't think you have lost Canada as home and never will, you have gained a second one with us 👍
I think you gave some great advice and I will start to live my life a lot more fuller watching this, thank you ✌🏽
Happy that you showed patience. otherwise we wouldn't have your great vids, you showed passion and emotion, keep your chin up and keep the vids coming. Good luck and health :)
I am soooo glad that I found your channel back in the summer(2018).This video is one of my favourite, everything makes sense!Annddd you are not crying,I'm crying!😁💜💜💜💜I hope you are happy.
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for sharing your experiences and feelings. It was very inspirational! Love the pictures in the end. :)
I for one am glad you stuck with it and are here. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!!!
Sending hugs love! 3years in England too over here and I understand those tears . Stay strong
Hope you have a wonderful day too. What a great video to come home to.
Great video and you made perfect sense. Change is hard but with patience we adjust and grow with every new experience. So glad you are happy.
A wise and philosophical young lady. Bless her!
It is nice to see that she is a thinker. It is a very attractive and important trait.
Thank you so much, that's so kind!!
Thank you so much!!
As an Englishman, your inclusion makes this country better. You rock!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings 👍😊
Good video Alannah, here's to another 3 years. I started watching you about 18 months ago and have enjoyed all of your videos. Keep going.
This is the kind of motivation I need! Thank you!!! I'm moving to England in April for up to two years, am terrified, yet excited x
Great video man. Really touching. And so relatable. Nice one 👌🏼
It's so nice watching your videos on your expectations and experiences of living in the UK and how you feel about now calling it home, just lovely and frank and humorous vlogs. 😀
Alright.. .just discovered your channel and i gotta say it has me hooked right now i just binge watched half your content lol, keep up the good work mate.😉
