      Very cool......my dad was a diesel mechanic at OK Motor Service when I was a kid, they had a LOT of Freightliners. Then later he worked at White / Volvo / GMC in Chicago. I used to love hanging out at both places.....and I still love the smell of diesel fuel ;)

    I'm glad they finally packaged these 2 kits together, lots of possibilities. You can build a sleeper cab with dual drive, day cab with dual drive, sleeper cab with single drive if you stretch the frame a little or a, day cab with single drive. You can also swap the cab back panels since some sleeper tractors have windows, as well as some day cabs without them. If you had an extra set of wheels and tires and another engine/transmission laying around you can build 2 complete trucks. Look forward to seeing what you do with this one.

      I'm glad also. It gives a lot of room to heavily modify it. This truck will be lowered and stretched. Uploads of this truck are coming soon.

    That is a great Kit!! I have about 11 kit,s. I bought really cheap!! I started out, building one I'm using 2 kit,s! I'm making a dble. Wide sleeper and stretching the frame a few inches,s! I'm also using a V12 Detroit engine from the Tyrone Malone,s racing truck! for the engine. The tire,s are going to be from the moebius IH conventional, these tire,s are the best for building truck model,s. Also using the turbo wing from the Malone truck having it chrome,d. This is gonna be one kick ass model when done. I will post it when finished in a couple weeks.👍🏼

    I have built this same AMT in the 1970's and the molds are different. Back then, the trees had all of the parts numbers on them.

      Interesting. I wonder did it still have a seam issue with the cab or an issue with the front axle?

    • @ronbradshaw7404
      @ronbradshaw7404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModelCarHobbyist I don't remember for the front axle, but the seam, yes :(. I was maybe 12 years old then so, i didn't care about that much! :)

      I get that. I didn't use spray paint until last year...lol

      @GT Classic Plastic I have been building them off and on since I was around 10 years old. There was a pretty big gap where I didn't build any for about 10 years. Until this time around I have always brush painted the bodies.

    I've built a few AMT Truck kits before so I'm used to their instructions. The kit still looks like the old truck kits from AMT that have been around for awhile. The only difference is the price of the kit. I would complain because I would spend my allowance to buy it at around $10.00! Those days are long gone.

    • @ModelCarHobbyist
      @ModelCarHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No doubt the price for these kits are crazy. Maybe for the price they can fix the front axle issue and maybe include a solid cab so that they can fix the seam issue.

    • @paulmcwilliams1709
      @paulmcwilliams1709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ModelCarHobbyist I don't see them fixing any issues with the kit, and I'm sure that the old molds have been paid for several times over since the kit came out many years ago. I can remember seeing those truck kits in truck stops and gas stations in the mid to late 70's when we were on vacation when I was about 12 or 13 years old! I guess I'm an OLD FART! LOL

    The single axle would be nice with the AMT 38 foot trailer in the short build. Would be nice with two of the trailers built short ver. With the single axle under Consolidated Freight!

    A lot of those big truck kits come with more running lights than you need. My Diamond Reo kit was like that.

    Hi, I just purchased a semi model kit what glue do you recommend to get for model kits? Also great vid keep up the great work!

    • @ModelCarHobbyist
      @ModelCarHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your support. I use a thin set glue from Hobby Lobby in the little square bottle called Mr. Cement. I was using Testers Red Cement when I started building this truck. They both have pros and cons. The bad about tester is that it melts the parts together so if you need to go back and take something apart for some reason you will have to cut it apart. That's also good though if you are looking for a really permanent bond. Buy both and use both depending on what you like and what you're building. I use several different glues on the same model depending on what I'm doing.

    Nice review. The joining of the cab is a nightmare ! The instructions are no reason for a beginner not to build this, the real problem is the joining of the cab. The two parts are just terrible to join and get to look right.

    • @ModelCarHobbyist
      @ModelCarHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cab is definitely the biggest issue. Then the front axle.

      After having to cut the front axle 3 times to get it right I definitely understand where your coming from, but I fought through that horrible issue and it seems to be turning out quite nicely. I have 4 other videos on the build up of this truck and still have a few videos left to do.

      Tj Caldwell: Same here. The joining of the cab pieces, is frankly, horrible. You obliterate the rivet detail, not too mention the vague instructions. This is not a kit a beginner model should tackle. It definitely is not an Ertl Blueprinter truck model from the same era - they blew AMT away in terms of detail, and molding finesse.

  • @rickdee67

    Hardly an “awesome” kit , lots of finicky fit , no parts numbered , and engineering not right! Definitely not recommended for a beginner! It’s buildable at best.

  • @chrisramsey3603

    This kit is horrible. Was looking forward to doing it but the instructions make it no fun at all to build. Did part of it, put it back in the box and there it will stay.
