I managed to find this figure after a few years of hunting and it’s my prized possession. Superman is my favorite movie ever. This isn’t just a grail, it’s a holy grail.
It’s certainly iconic. I remember when I first seen the movie. He did a great job. That experience stuck with me. The suit was very comic accurate. Which I loved. Congrats to finding one of these for your collection.
Pretty sure they had the ability to stitch on the cape's shield in 2011, sir. Pretty sure that detail was a cost thing vs a..."technology of their time..." thing. Dunce.
I was 15 when the film came out,saw it in the cinema and loved it, Christopher reeve will always hold a special place in my memories as superman, love Henry's version too
the best superman ever. my superman. i had the privilege to see one of the original suits worn by Chris last week, it was a gorgeous piece. i was very emotional to say the least. one of the highlights of my life. great review as usual Justin, thank you.
All the different variations over the decades are cool but this Reeves version of Superman is nostalgic and will always be my Superman! Thanks for the review; this is a beautiful figure.
I picked this figure up years ago (still second hand, but I got mine in 2015) and it’s still consistently in my top 3 figures I own, even going up against the modern stuff.
I'm truly a die hard "Superman" fan! I'm very lucky I got my Hot Toys "Superman" 1/6 Scale figure, about 2 or 3 years ago for my birthday. I'm very proud I own it in my collection. I considered my treasure, a Holy Grail of toys! There will never be a greater "Superman" like Christopher Reeve. As a child, I remember my mother took me at the movie theater, watching Superman: the movie (1978) film. It's truly worth cherishing. Very interesting and informative content. And thanks Justin once again for sharing!
This was my First Hot Toys Figure!! The one that was going to be "The only One". Because if I could have chosen only one figure, this was it!! I have been able to add others to my collection, but this one will always take its cherished place. My favorite character: Christopher Reeve is Superman 💎
Just picked this guy up yesterday from a local collector off FB Market for under $400, amazing! Been wanting him for a while, but I couldnt do the $550 to $700 price point. Super happy today.
This was my very first Hot Toys figure. But not my first sixth scale figure. I remember my excitement, waiting for it to be released back in 2011. I have been fortune enough to not have any issues with the "S" peeling or cracking. Or the neck joint cracking or splitting. It's the one and only figure that I would never sell.
Wow, this unboxing and review of the Hot Toys 1978 Superman figure is absolutely fantastic! The level of detail and accuracy in capturing Christopher Reeve's portrayal of the Man of Steel is truly remarkable. The articulation, sculpting, and paintwork are all top-notch, making this figure a true masterpiece. Your in-depth review and insightful commentary provide a comprehensive look at the figure's features and accessories, giving viewers a clear understanding of its value and collectibility. Thank you Justin for sharing this amazing experience with us. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see more reviews from you!
My favorite Superman figure and the best Superman figure for me. I love the headsculpt since it captures the likeness of Christopher Reeve and also Superman.
Awesome review, Justin. This was my number one grail for many years. Managed to find the figure only with no accessories or original suit but was able to source a 3rd party outfit. Stands out in my collection.
I'm looking forward to getting this as well. Despite the price tag, I can see a possibility of a reissue. With some additional touches like more wiring to the cape, and of course, with new eye rolling piece and maybe some other improvements along the way. As always, great video commentary
@JustinsCollection They need to get on this with so many improvements Hot Toys have made over the years, but of course, there are advantages vs disadvantages across the board. But I believe it can be done. Overall, Christopher Reeve (Rest in Paradise) is an icon.
I bought this blind mainly out of nostalgia. Superman was one of the first movies I watched at the cinema with my older brother and parents. Including freight, duty, VAT this figure came expensive but let me tell you, very few figures made me smile broadly when opening the package as much as this figure did. Beautiful figure, beautiful colours. I'm smiling now as I watch this video. The print on the chest is a bit of disappointment but I'll live with it.
Seeing this reminds me! I finally found and bought the Batman Returns Batman Bruce Wayne 2 pack! Can't wait till it arrives. Definitely the highlight of my growing collection!
I found a broken green glass bottle on the beach once and the piece of glass was shining from the sunlight and it looked just like a piece of kryptonite, I chipped it a bit more and it's a perfect 1/6 scale kriptonite for a HotToys Superman
Wonderful review of an absolute grail! It still baffles me that Hot Toys didn't do a reissue or 2.0 version of this for their WB 100th anniversary line.
I remember buying this for half its price back in the days, was my 2nd hottoys figure and so glad as I’ve posed him like your last pose for years with not even a crease on the material.
For me who collects villains, Christopher Reeve evil Superman is a must have. I love Christopher Reeve's performance as Superman and having him as the evil Superman in my collection would be great.
I love his fortress of solitude crystal stand, this is an amazing older figure HT’s creativity is second to none…great video….I am hoping for a 2.0 technology and 2 head sculpts for different expressions in the future
I picked this one up a while back and it was expensive, but it was well worth it. This is easily one of the best figures that Hot Toys have produced. When I picked it up from my local comic book store, it was either the Christopher Reeve Superman or the Michael Keaton Batman. It was a tough choice, but I ended up choosing Superman. The head sculpt is perfect. Christopher Reeve's likeness is 100% accurate. The eyes have a nice sense of realism and I like the facial expression. The skin tone looks great. The hair has been sculpted really well. The body is appropriately bulky and well proportioned. I love the vibrant blue, red, and yellow. I like the wire framed cape. Articulation is pretty good. I appreciate the fact that Hot Toys included a standard display stand and a Fortress of Solitude diorama display stand, which looks great. The box itself has the iconic Superman shield and it's simple and classic. The inclusion of the message "in Memory of Christopher Reeve" is a nice touch. The figure itself is an absolute masterpiece and a masterclass in craftsmanship. The only thing that you have to worry about is the Superman logo that's on the chest. You dont want to stretch the material too much for the fear of damaging it. This is definitely a grail piece for sure. It's a stunning figure, even after all these years and it holds up really well. Thanks, Justin! I appreciate the hard work! Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!
I think if we mix all the different concepts of “grail” that people have, like technical aspects of the figure, cultural importance of the source material etc, we would have a top 3 something like this (the order can change): 1 - Christopher Reeve Superman 2 - DX13 battle damage Terminator 3 - Robocop (Diecast)
Hi Justin, it’s Rrr Mmmm here :) How are you? I’m absolutely in love with this presentation of the CReeves Superman. That ice base is stunning, the look of the base is just like it looks in the film. They did an excellent job with the figure though I thought Reeve was a bit larger, perhaps he appeared a bit larger to me at the time. Nevertheless this figure is exquisite. I just picked up my first Cavill Superman figure and I think it would be amazing to get this one for my collection. At the time this film came out it was absolute pandemonium, and I saw the first and second Reeve Superman film in the theatre. Even then there were events to celebrate the film, I remember the theatre I went to in New Mexico had a Superman look a like contest. It was so much fun! So glad they made this figure. Thanks for the video 💎😊
I am well, how are you? They did an amazing job with this figure! It was an instant classic and the diorama base is stunning! That sounds like a tonne of fun in Mexico!
Would love to get one of these. I had to opt for the DC Direct 1:6 Superman and replace the headsculpt with a custom Reeve head. 3D printed my own Fortress base. It works.
Finally, Justin I don’t know if you remember, but I’ve been commenting on videos, for you to do this review for so long 😅. It’s okay if you don’t remember but I was the one that keep requesting this review!
This figure and the world box Terry Bogard started my Hot Toys and 1/6 collection. I really wanted to have a Reeve Superman for a while but I did not come across one for sale initially. I was ready to kit bash my own using Crazy Toys Supes, a 1/6 Reeve head and a different 1/6 body. And before those parts arrived, I came across a Hot Toys one. I was able to get the evil Superman shortly after too. Then I used the China parts I ordered to kit bash a Clark Kent mid costume change :)
This was my first 1/6 scale HT figure cuz it was my favorite Superman movie so when I saw it it was an instant buy now it is deteriorating after all this years the stitch under the left bicep is coming loose and the neck peg is broken so it would be nice if Hot Toys would do a 2.0 version on both of them. It would be awesome if they do flying boots by that I mean the feet’s in the flying position cuz I don’t mind the rubber boots.
This is my grail piece, can't think of any figure I'd want more in my collection. I'd do insane stuff for an InArt Reeve Supes or a new 2.0 release from Hot Toys. The new Sideshow premium format looks alright. Need more Chris Reeve love in the hobby

It belongs in a museum!
