I'm originally from ct and everyone thinks everyone is rich because of yale but the hood is right there next to the campus .you literally go from Starbucks to bodegas and loosies lol .people forget it's in ,newhaven. Uuummmm Cambridge, MA is not in the hood. So how he turn out like this ? When I think of Cambridge I think of yuppies with money. Maybe he moved to Roxbury or Dorchester later on in life.
Isn’t there a “hood” part of Cambridge? I’m from Boston so I’m not too familiar but I’ve definitely driven through and seen projects in the past (early 2000s).. idk if they’re still there today or if they tore them down
Cambridge has hoods, you clearly never been outside. The current Cambridge is more gentrified but there are still hoods there.
I’ve worked in Cambridge, went to clubs in Cambridge (has there been shootings at clubs in Cambridge, yes, hence probably why club Monroe is no longer open but crime is to be expected at clubs in & around Boston)threw several parties at the Elks Lodge in Cambridge, been to concerts at Middle East, went to the Caribbean Carnival several times in Cambridge. Never have I EVER been scared to walk the streets of Cambridge at night. There’s always sketchy looking ppl around, yes, but sorry if It doesn’t make my list as a hood. It’s not best but it’s not the worst either. Now if he said Brockton, Dorchester, Roxbury, Lowell, Lawrence, Lynn, Chelsea, Springfield, Fall River now we talkin hood.

Whether or not that fits your definition is really just relative to how you see it/define a hood. Boston has hoods but I’ve never felt unsafe walking around at night in any of them. Well maybe the Geneva Ave/Bowdoin St area.. lol but I’ve also lived in NYC so maybe that’s why to me it’s not really considered dangerous anywhere in Boston/Cambridge.
He grew up off Central Square. Millyz is in his 30s. I'm around the same age. I'm not from Cambridge, but I started moving all over eastern mass and RI since the early 2000s. There are a good amount of projects in cambridge, just like every neighborhood in boston and neighboring cities (not just the hood.) And if you remember boston and neighboring cities before gentrification (which didn't start happening untill the mid to late 2000s, which was around the same time millyz graduated.) The neighborhoods around the projects were always hood as well before gentrification (even the projects that were in nice neighborhoods.) Millyz grew up around the projects near central square. There are two big ones in that area on either side of mass ave, and a few scattered small ones, and then another really big project complex in north Cambridge, but that complex wasn't close to millyz. Aside from that, Cambridge public schools are similar to boston public schools. It's mostly black and latino kids, while the white kids live in different parts of the city and go to private schools. Central Square was also a bit rougher in the early 2000s, like how Somerville was before gentrification. There were still college kids and people who worked there and night life people passing through, but the kids who grew up there were mostly low income or working class households. The story really isn't hard to believe, knowing his age. And he's not saying Cambridge I'd mattapan but hes not faking it. There are comparable places in the south end of boston, as well as the lower east side of Manhattan and in DC as well, meaning some hood pockets, then boom, million dollar condos. He came from a neighborhood with a large Caribbean population, especially haitian people. Even today, you'll see the small parts of the neighborhoods still left in the back blocks behind Central square.
