  • I'm a fan of CZ's. Well made pew pews IMO. I'm also a fan of 1911's and think Dan Wesson makes a fine, reasonable priced (depending on how one defines reasonably priced as prices have been steadily increasing so maybe I should say used to be more reasonably priced, LOL) line of 1911's.
So when I first saw the DWX in early 2023 my immediate thought was CZ combined two relatively distinct lines into one interestingly new product. Piqued my interest, but unavailable to me due to my state's restrictions. Oh well, I thought.
Then along comes the Compact version of the DWX. Not only did this version catch my eye, but it called out to me. Must have one in my hands! Initial pricing was absolutely CRAZY, after all, this was a CZ not some hand fitted custom gem from a boutique type of shop. Kept my eye on the market and sure enough, since it didn't have a rail or RDS system (apparently 2 requirements of any new pew pew - just look at the Daniel Defense H9 released in 2024) prices quickly fell. Not a product fizzle or fail, but I don't think it was the hit they expected. Had both versions (full size and compact) had the RDS cut/plate system from the factory I think the response/sales would have been better. Was actually expecting the RDS versions at 2024 Shot Show, but we all know that didn't happen.
Regardless, I'm old school and no RDS or rail is fine by me as I actually prefer open/iron sights and I'm not the biggest fan of lights on pew pews personally. So here it is, finally. This video is my first look at the DWX Compact.

Picked up a DWX Compact. CZ/DW should have had an optic mount at least for those that want one. Me personally, I could care less about an optic on a CCW gun. I don't need a light either both are just more weight and at 30oz its already at the top of CCW weight limit for my preferences.
I also don't care about an ambi safety. In fact on a CCW gun i prefer not having an ambi safety since I am a right handed shooter and see no need for the ambidextrous safety.
    Definitely a cool looking gun.

I would get one of these if an ambi safety was available. I'm right hand dominate, but shoot primarily left handed because I'm blind in my right eye. So all my 1911s are ambi and my CZs are all decocker models.

Thanks. Paid more than I wanted to due to my state's limitations, but a lot less than what PPT's were initially going for a year ago (haven't followed current pricing, so not sure what they are now going for). Just north of MSRP/retail, so it wasn't too painful. They laughingly (I was literally laughing at prices I first saw for PPT's) started at $5k when first available "locally" and the hype was off the charts. I waited a year for the dust to settle and the price premium to collapse (nice pew pew, but even at MSRP it's priced too high IMO). I just uploaded my DWX Compact trigger job video. It will go public Tuesday morning.

From Cali and moved to another crappy state. Our Governors are friends. There is a third Governor in another that is our Governors best friend as well. They are the Three Stooges. Anyways these things cost about as much as a S.A. Platypus. Redonkulous, but you get quality. It’s a Dan Wesson. A hybrid of a 1911 and a CZ so you are pretty much kind of getting a 1911/2011ish CZ. With a linkless barrel. It is just wonderful. Thing is it is like a concept car produced from a very well known and respected auto company, was produced and kept a secret, they were going to release it but didn’t until 6 years later. Then released it when the technology and features have changed in the industry. Thing is though it has all the lines and craftsmanship from the company you love and can’t deny it is wonderful. That is the Dan Wesson DWX. A $1,600 non optic/non-railed version, a $1,800 optic, non railed version, or a $2,000 optic/rail version. When you own one and put it in your hand, you stop crying and reminiscing about how much you spent. You touch that trigger, actuate that slide, feel the lines and curves, feel the craftsmanship…….like Dinero you “Forget about it” and are happy with your purchase. I got mines down to a 2.5 trigger. I have it with my S2C in SAO and they both are great guns. When I bought it I was like man I could have gotten a Platypus. I wanted a TWC9 as well but “high capacity magazine ban” shut that down. Anyways Platypus next time. I will NEVER give up this Dan Wesson though out of all my firearms. I have been depressed about giving up my Beretta 92FS a few weeks ago. Never again will I sale another one of my babies. It’s like letting one of your daughters go to get married and move away. Lol.
