I never really understood the criticism/hate he gets anyway. Great commentator, fair, funny, witty, and apparantly just a fantastic person all around 👏🏻 He's not Murray Walker, but no one is, so I hope eventually he gets the respect he deserves
Its just people from outside the UK tbh, because they used to be broadcasted worldwide. People dont understand the british humour they have, a bit like with ted.@@murphymoerf
Two things I took from this: 1: As loads have already said, amazing transition from tour to live broadcast 2: I had no idea "race control" was just sat next to him in the same room! 😂
Ikr! I thought race control was something similar to the sky pad. It was just a room or something located elsewhere in the paddock. But no it's right next to them 🤣 It doesn't help when he always says "Anthony Davidson down at race control" lmao
That small gaggle in the room has probably been having a laugh at us this whole time, knowing we're imaging Antony is in this intricate, cable jungle of a room when he's actually just squatting right next to him. Really appreciate this inside look!
I do exactly the opposite! I think the Sky Sports F1 team is more biased regarding British drivers and as journalists that is not really the way to go, in my opinion. But in the end, we both love to see and hear commentary during the sport we love. So to each their own, and I'm glad we have the option to choose
I used to always go to the international feed also, but since the break(one where Riccardo first started racing again) I have been with the f1tv crew. Don't like the moments where they are discussing things and our pictures don't show what the world is seeing because it's sky exclusive. Looks like Alex brundle and Sam Collins will be doing those segments so we get to see similar discussing and analysis instead of just hearing it.
@@danielde7542 Definitely not the case. Sky is probably the least biased, outside of the F1 official commentary with Jolien Palmer and such. I'm Dutch, our broadcast is usually just a guy talking about Max Verstappen. I know the French are all about the French, the Germans have Hulk but he's not up there right now so they might be unbiased. On top of that, very few broadcasts have the budget and access Sky has. Their setup is amazing and they're often part of official presentations. There is always some bias but on the whole, Sky is pretty independent. There's a reason they air in many countries despite not being in the native language.
@@danielde7542 Yes Sky is somewhat biased towards the British drivers but I enjoy the presenters far more than the official F1 TV crew, so I overlook it. They have much more personality and are less robotic/corporate than the official F1 "International" team. I enjoy Brundle and Crofty mostly.
Top tier broadcasting skills, and a lovely bloke. I met him in Hungry 2022 post race. He was super friendly, and very measured when we spoke about Abu Dhabi 2019!
Come on guys, is your memory so short?? He's referring to the absolute FARCE that was Hamilton destroying Max from pole in that silver arrow while Max had to fend off Charles. Such controversy! :D (joking here, he most likely meant 2021 cus 2019 was straight forward as hell lol)
@@darapanenigoutham4327 I've seen people criticising him for being too loud, screaming all the time etc. Bias, not so much - that's reserved for Ted Kravitz. Honestly, Crofty is a much better commentator than the BBC guy they had in 2009-2010. That was truly horrendous!
I switched to F1TV commentary for a couple of races. It bored the pants off me so I switched back to the international feed. I mean, I don't like Sky at all, but I do like their F1 team.
Wow, that was both interesting and quite impressive transition. Well done! For having watched F1 in 5 different countries and languages, I can say that Crofty is by far, very far, the most engaging one. When you switch to another one, it feels like they are sleeping!
"Lights out and away we go..." my favourite Crofty phrase each race. At first it was weird hearing Crofty commentating when F1 moved to Sky. Was so used to the Brundle and Coulthard commentary partnership at that point.
I've seen quite a few commentary boxes for local sports events--no matter the level of sports, it's always amazing to me how the commentators keep everything straight and focus on the action!
Crofty is an outstanding commentator. At first, I didn't know if he would be great, but God he is. I could listen to him do all sports or even voice overs
This whole time I thought Davison was somewhere else in the sky because the way Crofty says it. Crofty is announcer for this sport an always have entertainment through the race
I'm always surprised by how cramped the commentary box is. Full credit for bringing such good content from such tiny quarters. Aside from the screens, looks like conditions haven't changed much since Murray was commentating. Very rudimentary, no nonsense approach. Can they even see the track from this one? Not that they need to, but the view seems very obscured by walls and monitors. Just looks really closed in and a bit claustrophobic. You'd think being F1 the commentary team would have some degree of comfort. Some nice chairs at least, maybe somewhere to put your feet up. Perhaps a badminton table. A fully stocked bar. A wave pool. I think I'd rather commentate the cricket than stand in that little room for so long.
Space is at a premium at a track and very expensive. Besides SkySports there are countless other broadcasters who also need a room. For the majority of races these rooms are empty as you don't get the coverage an F1 race gets. The track operators rather use the space for something that makes them money all the time. Sky has their own space built up outside of this building, where all the relaxing is done. Not sure about the wavepool but they must have a bar. They're British.
This is one of the greatest videos I've seen on TH-cam in a long time. Props to Crofty. I reckon he spends most of the race standing up and as frantic as this!
Wow...the way how he jumped right into commentating the live FP2 transmission at the end of this video, just absolutely smooth. This is how true talent looks like at work. Impressive stuff.
The amount of work that gets put into what we see as a "simple" broadcast is astonishing. I've worked as a sound assistant on Outside broadcasts before and it's a TON of work, not to mention kilometers of cable.
Crofty and Brundle is the only reason I have Sky Sports F1. Even though they got rid of The Chain as the theme music, I can tolerate it because, to me, they're the voice of F1. That transition was perfection.
I subscribe to F1 TV for the extras but watch qualifying and races on Sky because of Crofty. Best F1 broadcaster in the business and a class act. If he leaves Sky I’ll follow him wherever he goes.
There are people who wants to do things and there are people who were born to do things. This man right here is the definition of someone who was born to that.
My favorite non race moment this season was when Ant tried to mimic Crotys race start phrase during pre season testing. F1 even made a video clip and posted it on TH-cam.
Crofty's verbal fluidity is astounding. My tongue would have been knotted in the first 10 seconds trying to deliver that.
It easier for commentators and actors to learn scrips than us near mortals
Sports commentary is an art form
Is English your first language though?
He's amazing.
I feel winded just watching him talk in this clip. Wow. I could never do what he does.
My respect for Crofy was already high; but that transition from the tour to FP2 was utterly astounding.

Same here. That really got me. That must be why it's an ex racing driver as they are small enough to stash in a corner 😂
Hahaha, I guess Anthony is sitting, and Crofty's standing, so it's technically correct to say "down at" 😂😂@@fkez0510

I think that's just the setup for Abu Dhabi
To go through all that and then go live is pretty epic. Obviously not the normal warm up before starting the show
I just cannot enjoy F1 without "Lights out and away we go!" from Crofty. He's voice is a jewel in the crown.
way better than, "formula one is go" ?? that sounds stupid
is that a crown that has fallen in the toilet?
"And it's GO GO GO!!"
@@NotTheRambogo go go was definitely better but only Murray could use that one.
personally i cant stand his screaming...
This man cannot be replaced. An icon for F1 in this era
This video is only 2 1/2 minutes and yet I felt like he explained everything so well that the video actually felt longer and more in-depth.
Crofty is very talented in voice and descriptions. I can't imagine watching F1 without his commentary
This is why I ALWAYS choose the international feed when watching F1. Without Crofty and the Sky Sports F1 team, half the enjoyment would be gone.

Crofty being the goat. So casually he transitioned from a walkthrough shoot to commentary.
