    The mounting system is coming from the bike computers. This one is usually called "Garmin" mount, but there is the other popular from Wahoo, which is the same solution, but rotated by 90 degree. If you look on the bike computer mount market, you will find a much better solution, than this strap-on version.

    I go only with 18650 lights. I've had some wonderful products that contained some terrible batteries, and easy battery replacement is the only way for me. Plus, I can have spares to extend use before needing to recharge.

    Look how high up that light spreads, seems almost guaranteed to blind oncoming traffic. I have a different light with just some simple lens patterns like that and it's really not sufficiently shaped to avoid blinding. It lights up reflective traffic signs for example which although nice for me also means it hits the eyes of others in traffic.

      @@CT-vm4gf believe me I've tried. Don't know about this one but mine has to point down to a surprising degree to achieve any appreciable improvement, to the point where it's not really lighting the road in front of me anymore.
      It's just a generally insufficient optical construction.

      I can confirm. You have to basically point it at the ground to avoid blinding people.

      I hate people light set up, bike or car they buy a bright light and not knowing how not to affect others, it's very difficult to see if on coming bike light is not set properly. I normally tilt down my light 15 meter away but I covered the top part not to affect other walking or bike riders.

    Dave, we have 3 of the lower power ones. The Allty800 if I recall correctly. The out-of-the-box "Garmin" strap handlebar mount is rubbish and what you need to do is buy the higher-quality MJ-6272 Out Front Bike Mount.

    Another similar light to consider is the Acebeam BK10 - it has a replaceable 21700 battery, a better mount, and 2000 lumens. Micro-USB though, and it's not a weather protected connection - I strongly recommend protecting it with some tape etc. (mine is corroding, and is unreliable). I have this Olight one now as well.

    Is that beneficial?

  • @geensignaal
    @geensignaal ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Well, I see it all a bit more critically. The light radiation to the side is a good idea from my point of view, I miss that with other approved lighting (even taillights). The charging option via USB is also a good idea. I am bothered by the non-replaceable battery - but that may depend on the use case. I had two years daily 2x 2h commute with predominantly off-road portion. And no charging option at work. The stable mount is also important. Rubber band mounts tend to slip - then you see nothing and possibly dazzle others.
    But what bothers me most is the light cone. It is not suitable for traffic areas, it dazzles oncoming road users. In Germany, this lamp has exactly for this reason no approval - and that's good! Just like all the flashlight solutions, this is only something for off-road driving when you're alone - all alone. I do not want to be blinded at night even as a walker. Neither from 100lm flashlights and certainly not from 1500lm flashlights. Using such lighting solutions is - like using headlamps - selfish towards others 😡
    By the way, I use a Philips SafeRide 80, the older version with 4 replaceable NiMH batteries. These are only 220lm, but the light cone does not dazzle others if correct mounted. Approved bright light (allegedly up to 1300lm) provides, for example, the Lupine SL AF7. But it is not so small.
    I would be interested in how the bike light situation is in Australia. In Germany, the legal situation regarding bicycle lights has recently undergone a welcome change.
    BTW: bikelightdatabase.com/ may be interesting, swhs.home.xs4all.nl/fiets/index_en.html too.
