  • This is how I installed a grapple saw on a mini x cat 306. There's some action of it running and sawing at the end of the video.

    Okay, now that you have it working bring it up to Tennessee. I need to borrow it for some firewood. I will buy you lunch when you get here. Safe travels!!! 😁
    Man, that thing is sweet. Great job getting that baby working...

    Hate your selling the grapple saw after all that work. That was a lot of work but you did a great job. That things a beast. Hate it that you're losing over $3000 by selling it and that's not counting your labor. But if you sell it you could take that money and put it on a grading bucket. Because you could really use one of those. Enjoyed watching Be Safe

      Yeah it was a job for sure. I do have a 60in grading bucket for the 313. I just haven't shown it yet lol

      @@smithworx1091 that's great. It would have been nice to have some of the equipment y'all are running today. The only excavator I got to run was a Cat 225 but back in the early 80's it was a nice piece of equipment. Can't wait till the weather gets better. Hope you have a lot of jobs lined out this year. Got to pay for all this equipment plus put money in the pocket. Be Safe Out There

      Lol. It was a little bit of a pain. I think I'm gonna look at getting a hookup that is like a big couple for all the hoses. Like a big quick attach bulk head.

    Man oh man that's one bad mama jama right there son!!! I was really impressed with your new tool Lindsey. That is going to be an absolute game changer for you lol awesome 👌. I didn't know you were also an expert hydraulic and electric man. Very impressive sir! Can't wait to see you using it on a job. That would have been really helpful on the job for the horse pasture and this one your doing now. But I would imagine it will be very valuable on the pond job coming up. I'm curious though can you tilt it up on a standing tree and cut it down?

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's scary how fast the saw cuts. I would've loved to have it on that horse pasture job. I'm no expert but I do make a living at fixing things lol. I worked in maintenance for nearly 15 years before I started doing all this. I still go in and fix things when plants call me. This grapple only stays in the down position. I wish it tilted up to be used as a feller head also. Those are awesome but I couldn't find one.

    Very impressive. Well worth the wait! Will you have the ability to work the tree while it is standing?

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for commenting. This saw only hangs in one direction. So a standing tree would be really hard to cut. I looked for a felling type saw head but couldn't get anybody to help me with hooking it to an excavator. But now I think I could do it.

      @@smithworx1091 Ok, that was why I was thinking. I have been looking at the Hypro FG45 and it looks to be a dangle saw, I think. Morin Diesel over in Connecticut put one together a little while back. I think they have a video of it on TH-cam.

      @@kipsterchi7418 yeah I wanted a hypro. The one I seen was a feller type head. But if I remember correctly, those saws are made overseas and the lead time was crazy. I'm sure someone has them here in the US but I couldn't find one.

      @@kipsterchi7418 that Tree Mek that's sometimes on my channel has the Mecanil. But for some reason it's a lot slower than this grapple I just installed. And you're right they get expensive quick. About 5 to 6k more than the hammerhead.

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be able to cut it up once it's on the ground. But that Tree would be way to big to drag it out. I would have to use the big excavator to do most of the work

    I hate to tell you this, but you're setting yourself up for
    allot of headaches, here's why;
    The first tree you get to close to, you're going to be one mad person when your lines are pulled apart

    • @smithworx1091

      The lines aren't made to run up in trees. So why would I you run it into trees? You use the machine and attachment for what it's intended.

    I mounted mine on a doosan 85 a few months ago. I was able to integrate the divertor buttons into my joystick. It was a lot more comfortable than zip tieing the little switch mounts to them.

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome bro. I haven't got to use mine very much but it's awesome. Have you had any issues?

    • @kentongarl
      @kentongarl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smithworx1091 not any that werent caused by operator error 😂. The first valve placement lasted all of 20 minutes before it got smashed to shit haha. Its in a good spot now. That if you are pulling logs or trees, spin the grapple so the saw is pointed away from the direction youre pulling. I bent the saw guard up a little and it caused the saw to not cycle down all the way. Quick field fix though

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kenton Garl 🤣🤣 dang man. That's about how my luck goes. And good advice about pulling logs and the saw turned away from you. I can see that being an issue

    • @kentongarl
      @kentongarl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smithworx1091 ya the grapple will give a little and then the saw guard will rest against the log. Idk how the joysticks are on the newer Cats but on the Doosan's they are hollow. I was able to drill holes in the middle of the joystick where your middle and ring finger sits and feed the wiring and flush mount the buttons on the joystick. A little super glue holds it in pretty well. I mounted the buttons on the opposite hand of my Aux function. It just made more sense that way.

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kentongarl the cat handles are very slim. It was a pain to get the wires routed in there. I had to shave off a lot of plastic. But i probably could've used smaller wire.

    Wow!, that’s too much spaghetti on the machine my man, got to be honest that’s not worth the money and all that extra jazz you had to do for basically a buck saw that spins in a circle…way quicker and cheaper to of just bought a big chain saw and just grabbed the tree with the bucket and thumb and held it up and bucked the whole log all at once…now you got to drop it and pick it up every time to make another cut…nope no good, I’d unload it on eBay quick if I was you…great video though…looks cool!

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Have you ever processed trees through a chipper by hand? I have several chainsaws and have done it manually for a while now. If it's not worth it to you then don't buy one. That's pretty simple. Appreciate you watching.
