Frieren vs Frieren was the most epic magical battle I've ever saw, this is EXACTLY how I always imagined battles of two OP mages
Contrary to the recent Dr Strange vs Dr Strange, I got all the things I expected from that battle from frieren instead.

You choose your race at the beginning, one of them being demon, one human, one elf. Demon - "Frieren, The Slayer" (much better than slayer of demons imo),
human - "Frieren, Journey's End"
elf - "Frieren, Height of Magic" (or maybe you just get this one if you pick wizard as your class with any race).
She releases her mana restraint for the second phase!
After what Serie says that only Demon King and a human mage can kill her, I am really excited to see how well they depict the hero party fights the demon king. This thought alone gives me chills
I believe they will show it right at the END of the series which could be like 5-6 years from now
No, not CAN kill, she already lost like 10+ times mostly against humans. Seire said "If anyone kills you, it will be either the Demon King, or a human mage."

@@TheRookCrows No, the demon king actively held many of his minions away from just attacking humans aimlessly. He wanted to basically sustainably exist with humans, probably something like establishing Demons as a upper class in this new society where they get to eat convicts or something. The demon king understood between humans and demons, at their current rate of losses, the humans will win.
Episode 26 "The Height of Magic" can also be called "The Height of Frieren's Budget"
Holy moly... not only they cooked in these past 2 episodes, they definitely served the 'main dish' that is Frieren vs Frieren fight.
Now I can't wait for El Dorado Arc to be animated

Most of the time in anime its just gonna be each mage just casting their respective spells in a way similar to turn based combat, kinda like the pokemon games but with wizards

frieren said that if the other came in to help they would likely lose a few people which after seeing the fight I feel was A MASSIVE UNDERSTATMENT
If they all ganged up on the clone they would've won way more quickly.

@@GaghSagh no, with more people none of which can hide theyr man as well as Fern can all you would get is casualties all around... sure it would give Frieren opening faster BUT there was not one mage there in that group that could survive even single unrestrained spell from the clone, Fern was able to survive because she could utilize hit and run tactics and the clone was aware Fern was looking for an opening that she could exploit with her superior speed - again advantage none of the others have.

Can you imagine how the battle with demon king went down? Not just Frieren but the ENTIRE hero's party going full on vs him.

Remember the True Heros sword is still waiting for the hero that will confront the great evil. The demon lord was not the great evil there is something worse yet to come in the future of this world. And SeiRei was never sure if she could beat the demon lord in a fight. Yet frieren and her team did, hinting back to the comments frieren made about having lost fights to people she was stronger then in the past.
What was cool about this to me was Fern saying "This isn't like you" which I think is meaning that murderous intent behind the attack, and also that the clone dropped all defense and focused on Fern 100%. The first part is since Frieren is a mage of peace, having that killer look isn't who she is anymore and hyper focusing on someone isn't how Frieren fights. Just proves that the clone saw Fern as the most immediate problem despite her literal match still in the fight. Which makes sense as Fern did the most damage to her.
I loved seeing Frieren's clone fighting back at full strength. It was playing the part of Frieren's capacity when actually in danger. I would hazard a guess that most of her losses have all come in more "sparring" type battles where neither lives were in danger and she only half-assed it as she doesn't seem to harbor much pride or ego. The only way to push her to fight at her fullest being if she is at a legitimate danger of death - which the clone was. Poor Fern having to take the full brunt of that attack.
We've seen that Frieren can obliterate a part of a mountain for the purpose of only using as much as necessary, she's got to be an absolute beast if she doesn't have to worry about friendly fire.
The only exception probably being the Demon King. (Since, according to her it has been eighty years since she was last forced to use that spell which matches the timing of the Demon King fight)
Fern just surviving that attack is low-key impressive in and of itself.
@@Theunluckiest5437I though it was the spell she used on one of the demon king commanders, before she got saved by Flamme. Same effect at least.
people always bring up how she lost to 11 people or so, but forget that if she lost to the WRONG people, she would be dead already
I think this scene hits so hard cause it's the first time frieren is visibly angry. Even the times when she was angry before it never showed on her face. That's prolly why when watching this scene and the stare came up, in the 2 seconds it was shown it actually put me on fight or flight mode
I guess we can infer that the real Frieren is a bit of a sore loser. You can see the clone Frieren was SEETHING that she underestimated Fern and it cost her.
She probably just entered a kill-or-be-killed state, so far we know she's more embarrassed about her flaws than straight-up angry.
@@dutch24 but then there's the thing where the clone obviously doesn't see them as humans and attacks out of the blue. If the clone saw frieren and fern as demons, then that anger would fit into character.

The fact that it took a Frieren and a Fern to kill Frieren shows how strong Frieren is
If it was just Frieren and Frieren one would have died while the other heavily injured and it would be up to luck to know who is going to be who. Fern was there to ensure that they don't have to rely on luck but poor Fern ended up really beaten up

The use of indefinite articles makes this feel like a Rick and Morty commentary.
I love this show because it portrait so well the aspects of a magic battle. Sometimes it can be over in split of a second, sometimes you can be overpowered by a different magic style.
Frieren with her hair down and bedroom stares makes my knees tremble.

The face Frieren makes when she finds out she is not allowed to see what spell Fern chose for her promotion to first class is the one she shows to her friends. And this is the face she shows to the demons.
I watched this at work. that part when that blue dress girl gets stabbed/ambushed i was like NOOOOO. everyone was looking at me.

@@nazzurro in Dnd terms no martial can ever hold a candle to a mage, once you have reached a high enough level, wich both frieren and himmel should have. magic was and will always be the most op stuff you can have after a breakpoint. usually at around lvl 9-11 in DnD terms.
however the world of frieren is different. fighters clearly use some kind of mana to fight as well. that is why linie can copy their attacks. so it is save to assume, that "you can do whatever you can imagine doing" goes both ways. so a skilled fighter should be able to block spells with his shield or puncture though magic defences, if he can visualize it. not sure if that is realy true since I theorize only from the anime pov

That Invisible attack Frieren Clone used on Fern was scary shit. Wasn't fatal but was enough to destroy her staff and injur Fern. Was INSTANT. I wish Frieren would of explained the spell

I would have liked if Denken and the others have entered the boss room and watched the battle, commenting it, seeing the little opportunity they would have had against Frieren.
The clone would have used them as hostages.
It’s fascinating how the author probably realized that for whatever reason, this slice of life adventuring story with an overpowered mage would eventually get dull if they were never properly challenged beyond emotional/episodic/developmental stories, and so figured out a way to force Frieren to show off some real magic. This fight actually felt like Frieren was challenged.

well, now we know she WAS condescending when she told fern "basic attack spells are enough for mages of this age." her using vastly different spells when fighting herself (actually being serious) proves that basic attack spells arent more efficent/better than other spells.
It should be noted that Fern is exceptionally talented with Zoldraak. Its like telling somebody a Gatling gun will do fine against medieval knights instead of packing bazookas.
Its just much more effective for Fern to specialize on Zoldraak instead of trying to pull off summoning black holes.
Not really. Added to the other comment, Frieren think about friendly fire, and his most opressive moveset it's bad with that. Zoltraak gets the job done without that problem.
Frieren knows spells that cause so much destruction as we saw. Zoltraak can be pretty contained and with Fern being a faster caster, it makes sense that she would specialize in something that can be fired off rapidly. All the spells we saw here take setup and long cast time comparatively.
Also, I think Frieren just knows mages of this era are supposed to be mages of peace so why should extremely destructive spells be practiced regularly?
It's all about that concept of "I do not fear the man who has practiced 1,000 techniques once, I fear the man who has practiced one technique 1,000 times."
How many games are there where if you put everything you have into buffing the most basic weapon/spell/attack then it takes you through all the way to the end?
You want the best imitation of this kind of creative spellcasting and creativity of magic? Play Noita. But be warned...it is brutal.
Completly disagree. Zoltaraak is the most efficient in mana depletion terms - the enemy is depleating itself faster than you. Plus if you overwhelm your enemy with it when attacking fastly it is forced to use defence magic in most inefficient way - covering itself whole. Problem is that Frieren couldn't possibly be faster than herself plus Fern was faster but not faster enough. Not to mention enormous mana pool of both Frierens that would make attrition battle pretty long while they were running out of time before other clones would overwhelm their backup.
Zoltaraak is the most efficient way of fighting but not always the best one since magic counters in that universe base roughly on rock, paper, scisors system. Zoltaraak is just the most universal.
What's scary? I'm pretty sure we didn't get to see Fern's clone...
