I like my Topshelf Dump Trailers. Our tarps look similar, but they weld hooks on top so you don't need to use bungees to secure it

This trailer is a business partner's dump trailer that he allows me to use. I prefer Big Tex, I still have my one 15 yard with hydraulic jack. I love it, but I'll be selling it very soon!

@danielthedumpsterhelper I got my 3rd dump trailer on order. My new one will have a hydraulic jack. I think Big Tex is overpriced for the quality

I don’t think you’d have to worry so much. Just cross your T’s and dot your I’s business/legal wise. One thing you could have him do is vehicle maintenance. But I would say that he probably will have to ride with you and be exposed to the business a good amount before he works on his own. Let him see how you tick and how the business operates in and out and you’ll definitely find the right spot for him. For now just keep him under your wing. Like having and extra brain with an arm lol

That’s awesome! That kid is committed to making that money $$$$. But you’re also right about the liability. Last year we hired a younger guy to work on one of our sites. I caught some heat from my crew leader for sending someone with no experience into our site, for as young as he was. His parents approached me with regards to there son’s interests in welding. So I brought him on for a project. The kid did great! But, we work with fire, grinders, ladders, boom lifts, overhead lifting, and industrial facilities contracting. Not a place for a minor! Glad to see your finding creative ways to employ, and integrate your needs to the business.

Love the content brother. I remember being a kid like that...pestering people to hire me. I wanted to work at such a young age it was actually ridiculous. I ended up working in a metal railing factory for a summer when I was 13. (back in 84) and I was making $3.15 and hour and putting in a full 40 hours a week in the summer. Was a great experience, but not one that would happen now a days

Wow!! That's wild! What a grind you were doing! You've got an inspiring work ethic, also not happening now a days by the majority of people. Thank you for sharing!

My first thought was about the liability of working with a juvenile and the idea that you have to worry about that aspect of it as a self protection. The idea that this kid was not that driven to do things to help himself.....well that is par for course I think. He is young so the idea of going out there and hustling does not appear to be something that he is wiling to undertake. Maybe it is a sign of the times and maybe it is just a normal aspect of trying to hire someone. I commend the effort you expended into it and you gave him the respect and listened to him. He just needs to figure out what he is willing to do and what he is willing to work for. Good job man!

Daniel, do you not do anymore Junk Removal jobs at all? He could be a good hand after school and on weekends for that kind of work. If he's really wanting to add to his workload

I personally like the flyer and commission especially if he knew a bit about the business and how it works it might convert that customer that is educated about dumpster rentals or on the fence.
Or one weekends since spring and summer is here he could market and advertise at local events, have a booth set up spreading the word about dumpsters ?????? Just thoughts

I wish he had been a little more open or curious about doing the flyers. I think we could have worked something out that made sense for both of us. You bring up some good points though! I've been considering the booth idea and outside of the box advertising. Thanks for sharing!

It sounds like he wants pay by the hour or task, offer pay that way to do door-to-door perhaps. Ask if he is timid to hang door hanger's door to door. If so, maybe he would be more open to hitting a parking lot full of cars at a Home Depot or something of your discretion just to get his feet wet. Just a thought.
There are dogs and other dangers going door-to-door. Make sure he knows the word Solicitation or No Soliciting to not anger any home owner. Maybe a can of pepper-spray for self-defense of an angry dog.
He could wash a vehicle and vacuum it. Someone else said he could handle the labor of hauling material at the site into the dumpster, which I thought was a fitting thing.
Otherwise, we all know you have a heart of gold, and he is a kid with persistence. He might be better suited to work at a fast food establishment if he is not opposed to that.
