It’s an old petrol cap Mazzy, it’s probably chrome plated steel. The crimped edge is so you can grip it to undo it, the inside has gone rusty because it wasn’t chrome plated like the main part.
I’m pretty certain it’s not going to be silver, sorry to disappoint you.
A simple way to check your gas connections is put gas fitters leak detector round the joints, or use soapy water. Just mix a bit of washing up liquid with water (about one third washing up liquid to two thirds water) pour a bit over the gas joints and look for the bubbles. No bubbles = no leaks.

I have a spray bottle already prepared in the gas locker ready to spray once connected.

Hi Dan & Mazzy, the aircraft are from RAF Cranwell. This is where budding RAF pilots learn to fly. Drove past there today on our way home from Yorkshire. Like the look of that little site. (PS it’s a petrol cap off a farm vehicle) 👍

Dan check the rubber seal on the end of the regulator that connects to the bottle as they get brittle and split after a while and need regular inspections and changing .

Hi guys, a solution for the fly problem is to use the nozzle of your hoover, it's always worked for us while camping.

Also, your right Brass doesn't rust but it does corrode - Mazzy - go OCD with a scourer or wirewool and that connector will come up nice and smooth and shiny and it should seat well in the bottle again

Don't replace the regulator just give it a wire brushing. Also you can mix a dish soap and water solution to test your fittings for leaks.

Mazzy and Dan, If you ever need an idea to make a video.
A "tips and tricks" video on roaming the UK in motherhome/van/car/ ...
Where to parks what the rules are what to do and what not.
You guys have SO much experience on roaming the UK and byond in a home on wheels. It might make a good video to share some of the experiences over the years.
    Just a suggestion.
Thanks again for the video, LOVE BBQ video's !!

There are some hills in Lincolnshire, but they only go down, never up. Try fly paper in the awning. The planes are probably the same ones I see, as I live near Sutton Bridge and the RAF circle The Wash and shoot at ground targets.

Hi Dan and Mazzy. Number 8 for the pic competition but our awning is like yours and we stuck a bit of Velcro on the outside main door entrance and got a fly curtain and put Velcro on the ends of that and put it on the outside. It stops them getting in x

Photo No.2 is my personal choice, 8 and 14 were close runners but all 20 were good photo's 😃👍Seems like a nice and tidy campsite and I don't think that road traffic would bother my sleep, slept a lot closer before. Nice vlog again, thank you 😃👍 P.S vacuum them flies 😎

  • @andysteptoe6310

With regard to the fly problem you could use a very small crossbow or an elastic band catapult firing folded bits of paper, like we did at school in the 60's-70's.
Failing that a hand held swatter.

Hi Dan and Mazzie. Have you considered having a external gas point fitted to the motorhome? I don’t know what the cost will be as my caravan came with one fitted. The gas bottle stays fitted to the motorhome and the cadac is connected to the motorhome with a gas quick release connector. Save you having to disconnect every BBQ and safer. Just a thought.
