- The war in Gaza has escalated. The UK, US and allies have attacked Houthi militia in Yemen, who themselves have been attacking Western shipping routes in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, on Thursday South Africa took Israel to court, in the ICJ, the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
They contend that Israel is committing acts of genocide in Gaza. Israel denies the claims.
In this episode Lewis asks whether the case is credible and what might happen if Israel loses. He also talks in an extended interview to Eylon Levy, the ubiquitous spokesman for the Israel government to ask him when the war might end and how Israel can continue to justify the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Where did he have been during the Saudi war with Yemen? More than 18x casualties in Yemen as a result of the war. And Yemen did not massacre 4200 (proportionally to the population) and abducted over 800 Saudi people to start with.

The problem was that the deals he were given were overly skewed and would’ve made said Palestinian state completely under the control of the Israeli military which would not have been accepted by neither the Palestinians or the rest of the Arab leadership at the time. The Israelis have never been willing to give Palestinians real sovereignty and that is the crux of this issue. It’s no longer up to them whether or not the Palestinians are sovereign.

I love how the spokesperson can say definitively that 8,000 Hamas fighters have been killed, but cannot provide an estimate of how many civilians have been killed. This interviewer and team did an excellent job in preparing for the talking points and showed courage.

That’s %30 of the casualties. The age and name and ID numbers show that%70 of Palestinians massacred by the Israelis were women and children. That means any male older than 18 years is considered a hamas militant. That’s how they came up with this number.

Why Israel left Gaza.
Since Israel failed to withdraw from the West Bank post Olso2 they came under immense pressure from the international community to live up to their obligations. The Israeli right wing really don't want to give up the West Bank.
Israels right wings leaders made a calculation. Can we ever annex Gaza? They decided no. It's too densely populated, homes a nest of snakes, the settlements there take an inordinate amount of IDF resources to protect compared to the emptier West Bank. They withdrew from Gaza to keep the West Bank. It was not a part of a peace settlement but a cynical calculation to tighten the grip on the West Bank.
I don't expect you to take my word on it, but I do expect you to take the man who planned it word on it.

That's not what it means. "Standing with Israel" just after October 7th referred to them having a right to a response (a response that Lewis referred to here as expected and legitimate). What's not expected is everything else that Lewis asked about. Self determination is something Israel have conceded in poitical dealings with the PLO, culminating, so far, in Oslo. It's not something that hasn't existed up to this point. Hamas, who were determined, continually want the destruction of Israel. Self determination is indeed made to be conditional by Israel because they it cannot accept a choice of political party who want to see its complete destruction, and more. It's self determination as long as Israel is accepted to exist, will continue to exist, and will not be attacked. Self determination, if you are willing to live in peaceful co-existence with Israel.
