As a local with generations born and brought up in Goa, I can attest to the fact it used to be one of the safest places growing up. We didn't even close our doors until late night. That has changed in the recent years. Unfortunately I don't feel safe stepping out after dusk anymore! We miss Parrikar.
Goa police is pathetic. I have experienced the same. They will never answer your calls when you are in need. Such people are shame to a tourist place like GOA.

Goa has big drugs and alcohol problem. There are timings written everywhere in beach because people died on beaches. After certain hours there is drug dealers are in beach or if party they take permission. Police people would have thought you are one of them and you are not first or last person who get high in beach . So treat same you as drug and alcohol high people. I Visit Goa every year it's perfectly safe for normal visitor.

I hardly condemn the behaviour of police and am strictly against victim blaming... but even if there're strict laws and punishment, still there would be criminals with their typical mentality who wouldn't be scared of getting even the death penalty...

First of all ,its a very sad situation to see this being done ,its the story of every police in the country .Only if you are a local ,then probably you can get the police to act swiftly .secondly ,i have felt this since i have moved between different states during my career, There is always a discrimination while dealing with government authorities when you dont belong to the place ,so stay strong while fighting such injustice.
