Smashing video. Several years back, moored up on a nice, peaceful canal bank for the night. All night long, noises I’d never heard down in deepest Dorset. Worse than a bunch of bullocks on Bournemouth beach on a Friday night. Lay awake all night long hearing these things moving off from a stop signal. Couldn’t wait to catch a glimpse of the mighty beasts through the hedgerow in the morning. The dogs enjoyed an extra early morning sniff along the towpath and I got the surprise of my life. It was love at first sight! They still get my heart racing. Cheers!
OMG. 2nd shot at Bentley Heath level crossing. I lived 5 minutes walk up hill! Many happy hours spotting on that bridge. I can remember Kings and Castles and then the Blue Pullman, Brush built Kestral, 9fs, std 4 tanks, oh joy! 4 track main line then of course, no trees just the back gardens towards Four Ashes Road bridge along side which my aunt and uncle lived. Thank for the memories!
Wow Robert you are talking the proper days when we had a railway for everyone, thank you for sharing your early days, and for watching my video Robert.
I loved that line 1965-68 although I lived 5 mins from Tile Hill between Coventry and Brum I always spent hours on that footbridge too.Saddest memory? 2 9Fs minus con rods being towed backwards towards B'ham for scrapping. These videos are priceless for jogging my 70yr old memories Wonderful!
Love the video and I have to say that I like the sounds from these locomotives. I wonder if GE could rebuild some Class 60's with their CPU's and power units and have new bogies for 75mph running. Being part of Wabtec, it would be easier to do now.
Nice compilation Mike. 70s have become like Unicorns for me as they now hardly ever run on the WCML south of Nuneaton, Midland Mainline south of Derby, and pretty much nowhere on the ECML south of Doncaster or anywhere in Anglia these days.
A Great video...the “American Class 58” by similar appearance. I do love the sound these things make when powering “flat out”..you can hear and feel that raw power 😎🤩👍🏽 We have a few Colas ones that hang around Cardiff and occasionally a Freightliner example will power through Newport to/from the Wentloog Freightliner terminal 😊
@@antman09ful1 I’m led to believe Reliability and availability of parts is a big factor in the availability of this class. Many went into store in 2019-2020 and were lined up in Midland Road (Leeds) waiting for parts to be shipped over from Pennsylvania so necessary remedial work could be undertaken. As the class are a very small, “UK unique” sub class of 19 Freight-liner loco’s (not including COLAS examples) I understand limited parts are kept/stored in the UK for them, so more complex parts/repairs require shipments from the USA.
It amazes me that British railways persist with chain and buffer coupling on the freight equipment. Just about every other railway system uses automatic coupling. I guess there's a good reason for this but I think it could be overridden by the advantages of automatic coupling.
Glad you enjoyed my latest video on certain locos, I am working on another class now. regards Mike. ps always tell me Ben if you are in the Midlands, and If I can I will come and say Hi.
Really enjoyed that Mike, very great filming and capture of Class 70. And nice locations as well. Have a good rest of the weekend. Best regards to you. 😊
Wow what a compilation of this mighty class! Was absolutely perfect! Wow! Majestic this was!! All I can say is wow!! Absolutely terrific!! Another tremendous video! Cracking shots and captures there! Lovely sounds, clag, compilation and workings! What a way to start with the Runcorn binliner! A outstanding compilation of such an incredible class! No words can describe how good this was! I love when a 70 pulls those container trains! They are so claggy too, so perfect! No faults at all! Well done! Really was majestic! The sounds are incredible! Scenery was good too! Mega fantastic! I love the class 70, and I do like the odd one or two colas 70s in this video and in real life too! 70003 is a real claggy one! Put together really really well! Good locations too! 70007 on the Leeds to Southampton was fantastic! 70815 was nice! Was just perfect! Wow! Excellent in every shape or form! Fantastic camera work and detail as usual! What more could you want!? A perfect example of why I recommend your excellent channel! Job well done and top class as well! Great work from you! Was absolutely amazing! I just love it when you see a 70 show up! And a slow 70 always sounds so good! What a way to end that was! A really enjoyable 9 minutes and a half! Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooved it! Really enjoyed, thanks for sharing! Keep up the fabulous work! Take care, stay safe and well, keep up the fabulous, inspiring and enjoyable videos we all appreciate your time and effort into them! Have an awesome weekend and all the best! Jamie.
You do all know that the items in these containers never stop moving? They are simply transferred from a container ship to a container train, to a container lorry then taken to another rail, yard or port and sent out back on the container ship. They just go round and round and round and round and round as infinitum.
The 70's remind me of the bastard love child of the class 58, but pumped up from too much body building...personally I love these engines, and the sound they make. Second only in modern times to the throbbing class 68's....
Same here, a few used to come through east London either via Stratford or the gospel oak to barking line towards thamesport/tilbury docks/Purfleet, but it's now hardly anything bar class 90 if electric and 59 on aggregates and 66 on everything else The passenger scene is losing its variety but so is freight
I think I saw you on Westerfield station a few days ago. I live nearby and think I heard a steam train on Wednesday afternoon, but cannot find any information about it.
The last time I was on Westerfield was on the afternoon of the 16th July Richard. I don't know of any steam loco over that part of the country this week. Thanks Richard for watching my class 70 video. Mike.
Great video again Mike. Does anybody know the reason for this class being laid up in Leeds in recent years. It is claimed that these units are more fuel efficient than similar locos so it did not make too much sense unless it was for commercial reasons i.e. lack of business for the two operators?
I don't really know what the main reason was Brian, I read somewhere they were having problems with them but couldn't get the parts, but why wasn't Colas one's affected. ??? Thanks as always for your interest in my videos Mike.
@@antman09ful1 Hi Mike maybe it’s as simple as Freightliner did not have the demand for their services. Spares I don‘t think would lead to mothballing them as they could raid the other lococs as is normal. Curious
Yes I think theses days It would take a very long time Barry to get one down in Kent, but when the class 58s were about they came into Kent a lot. The first one in this video was filmed on 1st July the last was yesterday. Cheers Mike.

Well I think that Bryan. Cheers Mike.

@@davidspiers5492 Got time out of school one day to see T9, Schools, and two panniers ex LT, en route to Tyseley for preservation!
They're very unique in lots of ways thats for sure. Enjoyed this video dedicated to these funky locos
Well said Matthew and these clag well locos.
Evening Mike. Great video on what I can only say is not a pretty locomotive 😆 But they are still hard at work screaming 😱 like a good in lol 😂
I get your comment Stevie but I do like them, maybe the the sound they make. Thanks for having a look, Mike.
Beautiful machines these folks are the real deal!!!
Good to see class 70s Mike we only get them near around tees area
That is very bad luck Andrew, but you do get a lot of GBRf class 60 which we don't in the Midlands. Cheers Mike.
Great video Mike!! These have to me my favourite loco! The power scream, throb and clag just make them amazing!!
I can not disagree with all you have said Jacob, thank you for taking a look at my latest offering, take care Mike.

I know Darren, they are a very hit and miss loco, you get them on certain route through the Midlands then they disappear for months.
never on the London Gateway line, but one popped up in Bow yard from Tunstead fairly recently.

Jamie I have done this video because I like these locos as they look and sound powerful.
@@antman09ful1 Exactly the reason why I like them, that is.
Good collection Mike, nice catches :)

Nice selection, Mike. Great sounding loco's. It's just a shame they're not more reliable, especially the Freightliner ones.
Are they still having problems then Kyle, I haven't noticed any fallers lately, thanks for your interest in my video Kyle. Mike.
