I have a question I just bought three different systems of Bing. One with five cameras with one module where are you save a little money because I have Fifth camera . Before I bought those I have two sets of two cameras with module so each two cameras have their own module is that better than having five cameras with one Sink module I’m planning to put them outside I’m so confused

2.4GHz isn't outdated it just offers significantly more range. 2.4 is also capable of going through more obstructions than a 5GHz signal. This is the same reason Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc. are going to have a hard time deploying true 5G Ultra Wide Banda across the country. The signal just can't get through buildings, vehicles, etc. and the range is terrible. Something like a Blink Module is better off using 2.4 so that it can communicate with the cameras at a distance and not require the user to place it within a short range of both the router/access point as well as the cameras themselves.
It's an old standard but yes it has better penetration than higher freq (5Ghz). The blink module doesnt communicate directly with blink cameras, just your router. My cameras are on a mesh setup and not close to the sync module.
@@NaterTater, I haven't used the Blink cameras as of yet so I wasn't sure how the communication worked as far as if the cameras communicated directly to the module or through your local network. Regardless, 2.4 isn't a bad choice here but it would be nice if it supported both 2.4 and 5 so that you could choose based on your particular situation. I personally would rather have devices like this on a lower frequency and less used 2.4 SSID and leave the 5 open for personal devices
Also he's confusing wifi 6 with the others. wifi 6 is just the version, not the frequency. I think 6GHz is on the way or in development but his mention of 6 is basically wifi ax.

Using 2.4ghz is better because it’s longer distance, better for outdoor cameras. 5.0ghz is faster but shorter distance. It’s not outdated it’s engineered for distance still at 802.11 AC speeds. 5.0ghz would be good for indoor wireless cams only.
Its not at AC/wifi 5 speeds (not that you need that for these cams), it also adds interference with my zigbee smarthome devices. I have nine 5GHz routers/AP to more than cover the sq ft needed (indoor and outdoor). It is outdated but agree it works and for many is better than 5GHz.

We have eight Blink cameras and it's main selling point was that you didn't need a subscription. Six of ours are XT2s, so they are grandfathered but the minis are useless unless I get this. This Sync module 2 is a big fail all around. If you don't see your recording in the same day, you can't unless you remove the USB stick? Local storage...they weren't kidding. lol Why can't Amazon just include cloud storage with Prime? Plus, my old sync module with a USB slot was never implemented. What? Nice job on the review though.
Personally I have found the Blink products to be worse than Ring. For the most part I enjoy the Ring cams, can't say that really for the Blink stuff, hoping they improve (like Ring has).

Hey Scott, I can consider doing that. I've used a few different programs to edit in the past...all the way back to early 2000's for my high school video yearbook (used Mac's and Final Cut Pro). I've used iMovie and then Adobe Premiere but for most of the Nater Tater Videos of the past several months I have been using Movavi. I switched from an iMac to a DIY built windows computer so had to get new software and landed on Movavi but not sure its the best. It works and is pretty user friendly but has its limitations. For screen sharing my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S9) I just use the built in screen recorder feature, I think available on all androids? I'm sure there are apps for that too. Same for my computer, window 10 has a "game recorder" feature that just saves whatever is on the screen. I then import those along with gopro or drone footage to make the videos.
So we just got a sync 2 outdoor camera kit and it stopped working after the first month. I just reset everything, took awhile and it now works. Have you tried multiple cameras, and if so, what models? Our neighbour upstairs has an issue with him and his family not being aware of our stuff and keeps on hitting, dragging, and just not being aware or following up on letting us know and or apologizing when such little, yet consistent things keeps happening. that being said, we want at least on or 2 more cameras equaling to 3. Blink states up to 10 can be used. Blinks web site is very VERY vague so youtube is the next target for info.

Again.. You can actually view the clips in offline mode (or non-subscription mode). After your free trial expires, it will just start putting the clips on the local storage. In the app under "clips" you see it say "cloud" at the bottom and it has a little drop down arrow. You can then select "local storage" and from then on, whenever you open the app and go into clips: it will automatically show you local storage every time.
Hi Nate, new to this blink camera. If I don’t have a USB connected, will the clips still store in my app or do I have to have a USB connected in order to have anything saved

Question, on min #5:30, how do you have your both of your cameras show up on one screen vs me where i have to swipe my phone to get to my other cameras, etc?

Should there be one syn module for each camera? We have two cameras outdoors and sometimes the two cameras will sense motion at the same time - one will be recorder and the other not.
they say one module supports up to 10 cams. but there are some things that only allow one action at a time. i'd be surprised but not shocked if it was limited to 1 recording at a time.
First off Inever get the blinking light screen on the app, second the steps in the setup manuall are missing a step that is not in the app, 3rd, the module constanly blinks green with a steady blue. This system is not user friendly as far as setup also when the code is scanned says" already registered. I am so fed up with this thing.
I ordered a three camera blink minis which comes with a thumb drive. I also ordered the blink module 2 so I could record videos. Are you saying I don't need the blink module 2 to record videos?
Not sure what combo you got but theres no place to put a thumb drive in the Blink mini. You need a sync module 2 to do local recording. You do not need a sync module for cloud recording (subscription) for blink minis.
@@NaterTater If you look on Amazon you will see the 3 camera system comes with a thumb drive. I was confused about what I would do with it so I called Amazon and they told me to plug it into my computer to record videos which is not true. Then I thought I'd better order a system module 2.
Can you set the time it downloads the files to the Sync module? What time does it do it, or is it just random? Also, what format does it record the files in? I want to be able to manipulate the different videos together; for example, to make one long bird-watching video...
it seems to do middle of the night (3-5am) but will have to see how that goes longer term. I don't see a way to set the backup time. It records in MP4 so you can easily manipulate them later. Its fairly low quality, about 4mb/min, 1280x720 at ~16 fps.
I don't think you have a Sync Module 2 then, to my knowledge the first time the 2nd version was available was pre-order and delivery on Jan 28th, 2021.
@@NaterTater I bought some new Cameras in Nov 2020 and they came with a Blink Sync 2 module, so that is how I think I got the module early. Did you purchase just the module or get a package of cameras and module?

@@YoungOHH there is conflicting info on that per Blink's documentation. I am evidently still on a free trial of blink subscription (i've never paid for it) so my account still has cloud storage plus the local storage.

Sorta. If you have newer Blink cams like the mini that dont need the sync module to work/record then you could have the module off during thr day and just on at night for the download/backup the previous days footage.

Only ones that require a sync module to work. For example my blink mini's do not need the sync module to work (but wont save recording without a sub or module).
Ok, I have 5 mini indoor cameras and 3 door bell cameras by blink. I have 3 outdoor doors that I wanna use these cameras for. What all do I need and is it even possible?
Not sure what you're asking. You can put a doorbell cam on each exterior door. All 8 of those cameras could be linked to a single sync module and do local recording without a subscription.

If I am understanding correctly. I have 2 Blink Mini Cameras and the trial subscription ended (I was not aware when purchasing that I would have to pay for a subscription in order to have clips saved and recorded when the system catches something). With the sync module will this allow to save and view recorded clips to avoid having to pay for a subscription?
After the storage device was accepted by the module...you pushed something on your phone to send it to a new page. But it was so quick and you didn't say what you pushed...you may want to add that information in your presentation. I stopped the video and went back and start/stopped the video until I saw what you pushed to get to the new screen, but "just saying"...

I setup 2 Blink Minis and the Sync Module 2 for my dad back in December 2020 and the subscription trial has expired. Now there are no clips shown through the app. I haven't pulled the usb drive and put it into his PC yet to view the video clips. I find it less than optimal to have to remove the thumb drive and put it into a PC just to view the local video clips.

I am now using outdoor wireless blink camera. If I am going to add 2 indoor camera, will they compatible with the system. I notice that the indoor camera has to plug in to the power supply. if the supply is not near the socket, are there any NO plug in indoor camera? thanks
Hi, a question... ended the subscription then record locally at no cost ... but to see the videos recorded on usb must necessarily detach it and insert it into a pc? It is not possible to see them from the app? If so it would seem uncomfortable as well as smart.... can you explain better? Thanks a lot
@@NaterTater I'm sorry Nater, it's just to understand better .... if I'm out of the house and the camera detects a movement it will send me an alert but if I don't watch immediately the live broadcast maybe because I don't notice the notification I won't have any way to understand what happened until I come back home and I insert the pendrive in the pc...... if that's the case it's a total madness ....
@@alessandrosforza768 without a subscription it deletes after you view the motion alert video. However I am still in the free trial period so i havent tested that out. They also say you can view the local storage in the app but I havent seen that yet.
You should be grandfathered in to limited free storage of videos i believe. Even if not you don't have to buy a subscription for the mini to work. Just to save video. It will still record and notify you but after you watch the video it deletes the video.
Blink is not clear, you just stated you do not need a subscription, but need a subscription to copy to cloud, so which is it, need a subscription or not? All of my camera's stopped working once my Trial Period for which I had no desire to use and did not use, all of my Blink Mini cameras stopped recording, so I am very confused with their marketing.

@@usacitadel7375 thanks. My trial just ended. Ending the subscription actually adds functions for the local storage. I plan to do a video on it soon but you can indeed watch them from the app and it also stores them "instantly" vs a 1 a day backup.
I bought 2 used like new mini blink Cameras and I'm not able to setup any account because that person didn't delete their account and I'm not able to get ahold of them. How do I remove their account so that I'm able to have my own account? Even tech support can't help.
Your cameras should be recycled with electronic trash. As far as I know the cameras will never be able to used again unless deleted from the previous owners account. This removes some of the incentive to steal cameras.
Is it a sync module 2? I misspoke that the sync module 1 did not have a usb port. It does but it doesnt work. The usb flash drive needs to be 256GB or smaller.
It does not appear so. My trial still has 28 days so I will find out for sure then. No feature to view the files that I see other than plug USB drive into computer.
@@andrie0122 Yes my trial is done. But I have noticed it seems glitchy where it will say a clip is from, say, the front door, but it is actually a previously deleted clip from a different camera. Not sure if this is a USB thing or just Blink in general.

Decent product. But customer service sucks!!!! The only time I was able to speak to a live person was the first time I called. They told me to call my internet provider because my ping rate was high and there was a lot of congestion. I called Spectrum they said everything is within the parameters. I have called Blink back at least 6 times and left 2 messages, still haven't heard from them. I have only had the camera system for 9 months. It is supposed to be under warranty for 1 year, but the warranty is only as good as the customer service apparently. Conclusion.... You get what you pay for.
@@NaterTater under settings scroll to find blink and enable all the settings to allow everything. The rep said it was a new issue and I can’t believe I troubleshooted that long and it was the very top setting was default to off! I can screen shot if you have insta.
This started out goo but the he rambled on about storage he did not explain in simple form about that part just went on talking so you lost me, frustrated right now and have to go back to the other gentleman. then he ended the video..
Make sure your phone or tablet is on the same 2.4Ghz wifi band. If you have a newer wifi 5 or wifi 6 router they often have a single SSID and do band steering for each device. You want to force a 2.4ghz connection by separating the bands with unique names. If that doesnt work. Try factory reset on the module.

The choice to use 2.4 is all about range. Has nothing to do with being 'outdated' It also doesn't need that much bandwidth. ~P

Not confusion on wifi 5 being AC and 6 being AX. I understand the trade-offs of freq and pentration and would still like a 5ghz option.

I have 8 Blink Mini cams on my sync 2 module. All recording local. No subscription.
So after the USB is full. Will it overwrite the old footage and keep recording or do I have to delete it myself after the USB drive is full?
Manually delete. The app does tell you how full it is though.

Usb or need a subscription. Otherwise they auto delete after you view them (stored on cloud temporarily).
I just got mine in the mail and it won’t let me setup the sync module. It did let me setup the mini wired camera though. Any tips?

I did that. They were no help at all. They just told me to do a hard reset by pushing the reset button until a red light appeared.
Is it possible to access the storage wireless across your network or do you need to pull it out and plug it in to your PC?

I ordered a three camera blink minis which comes with a thumb drive. I also ordered the blink module 2 so I could record videos. Are you saying I don't need the blink module 2 to record videos?
Not sure what combo you got but theres no place to put a thumb drive in the Blink mini. You need a sync module 2 to do local recording. You do not need a sync module for cloud recording (subscription) for blink minis.
@@NaterTater If you look on Amazon you will see the 3 camera system comes with a thumb drive. I was confused about what I would do with it so I called Amazon and they told me to plug it into my computer to record videos which is not true. Then I thought I'd better order a system module 2.
Can you set the time it downloads the files to the Sync module? What time does it do it, or is it just random? Also, what format does it record the files in? I want to be able to manipulate the different videos together; for example, to make one long bird-watching video...
it seems to do middle of the night (3-5am) but will have to see how that goes longer term. I don't see a way to set the backup time. It records in MP4 so you can easily manipulate them later. Its fairly low quality, about 4mb/min, 1280x720 at ~16 fps.
How NEW is this. I got my Blink Module 2 back on Nov 2020, just checking if there was a newer one than what I had?
I don't think you have a Sync Module 2 then, to my knowledge the first time the 2nd version was available was pre-order and delivery on Jan 28th, 2021.
the easy way to tell is version 1 doesn't have a USB port.

Yes they are saved to the usb flash drive. No subscription needed for that.

@@YoungOHH there is conflicting info on that per Blink's documentation. I am evidently still on a free trial of blink subscription (i've never paid for it) so my account still has cloud storage plus the local storage.

Just needs to be on the same wifi. I have a mesh setup so cameras are far away, not even on the same router/AP.

Sorta. If you have newer Blink cams like the mini that dont need the sync module to work/record then you could have the module off during thr day and just on at night for the download/backup the previous days footage.

Only ones that require a sync module to work. For example my blink mini's do not need the sync module to work (but wont save recording without a sub or module).

Not sure what you're asking. You can put a doorbell cam on each exterior door. All 8 of those cameras could be linked to a single sync module and do local recording without a subscription.

I have 2 Blink Mini Cameras and the trial subscription ended (I was not aware when purchasing that I would have to pay for a subscription in order to have clips saved and recorded when the system catches something). After the storage device was accepted by the module...you pushed something on your phone to send it to a new page. But it was so quick and you didn't say what you pushed...you may want to add that information in your presentation. I stopped the video and went back and start/stopped the video until I saw what you pushed to get to the new screen, but "just saying"...

Appears it does not. You have to manually delete. It does tell you if memory is getting full.

I setup 2 Blink Minis and the Sync Module 2 for my dad back in December 2020 and the subscription trial has expired. Now there are no clips shown through the app. I haven't pulled the usb drive and put it into his PC yet to view the video clips. I find it less than optimal to have to remove the thumb drive and put it into a PC just to view the local video clips.

I am now using outdoor wireless blink camera. If I am going to add 2 indoor camera, will they compatible with the system. I notice that the indoor camera has to plug in to the power supply. if the supply is not near the socket, are there any NO plug in indoor camera?

It is compatible. You can just use an XT2 or "outdoor" camera inside if you need battery power.

Hi, a question... ended the subscription then record locally at no cost ... but to see the videos recorded on usb must necessarily detach it and insert it into a pc? @@NaterTater I'm sorry Nater, it's just to understand better .... if I'm out of the house and the camera detects a movement it will send me an alert but if I don't watch immediately the live broadcast maybe because I don't notice the notification I won't have any way to understand what happened until I come back home and I insert the pendrive in the pc...... if that's the case it's a total madness ....
@@alessandrosforza768 without a subscription it deletes after you view the motion alert video. However I am still in the free trial period so i havent tested that out. They also say you can view the local storage in the app but I havent seen that yet.

There is not. Ring has a web interface but not Blink.

Without a subscription it doesnt record live views, only motion ones. You can view those in the app.
I've had blink for 3 years and still using it. If I buy the mini do I have to pay for the subscription?
You should be grandfathered in to limited free storage of videos i believe. Even if not you don't have to buy a subscription for the mini to work. Just to save video. It will still record and notify you but after you watch the video it deletes the video.
Blink is not clear, you just stated you do not need a subscription, but need a subscription to copy to cloud, so which is it, need a subscription or not? All of my camera's stopped working once my Trial Period for which I had no desire to use and did not use, all of my Blink Mini cameras stopped recording, so I am very confused with their marketing.
You dont need a subscription for a lot of features. Some are subscription only though.

@@usacitadel7375 thanks. My trial just ended. Ending the subscription actually adds functions for the local storage. I plan to do a video on it soon but you can indeed watch them from the app and it also stores them "instantly" vs a 1 a day backup.
I got a 256GB flash drive
I bought 2 used like new mini blink Cameras and I'm not able to setup any account because that person didn't delete their account and I'm not able to get ahold of them. How do I remove their account so that I'm able to have my own account? Even tech support can't help.

Your cameras should be recycled with electronic trash. As far as I know the cameras will never be able to used again unless deleted from the previous owners account. This removes some of the incentive to steal cameras.

Is it a sync module 2? I misspoke that the sync module 1 did not have a usb port. It does but it doesnt work. The usb flash drive needs to be 256GB or smaller.

No. All the videos go to the cloud first then get saved local. You dont have to pay for the cloud but you are relying on it.

Decent product. But customer service sucks!!!! The only time I was able to speak to a live person was the first time I called. They told me to call my internet provider because my ping rate was high and there was a lot of congestion. I called Spectrum they said everything is within the parameters. I have called Blink back at least 6 times and left 2 messages, still haven't heard from them. I have only had the camera system for 9 months. It is supposed to be under warranty for 1 year, but the warranty is only as good as the customer service apparently. Conclusion.... You get what you pay for.

What type of wifi/router do you have?
My sync module is not connecting to my phone or tablet, what do I do????
Make sure your phone or tablet is on the same 2.4Ghz wifi band. If you have a newer wifi 5 or wifi 6 router they often have a single SSID and do band steering for each device. You want to force a 2.4ghz connection by separating the bands with unique names. If that doesnt work. Try factory reset on the module.
