- Larry Ellison, the tech industry billionaire who bought 98 percent of Lanai five years ago, discussed his ambitious plan that involves automated, computer-driven hydroponic cultivation inside giant greenhouses. It is part of what can be viewed as Stage 2 of Ellison’s vision to make the island a sustainable community.
Ellison discussed the endeavor with Honolulu Star-Advertiser reporter Andrew Gomes. Read the article at 808ne.ws/2uhhLTt

5 years later this has not happened. 1/22 I checked both Oahu as well as "5 minute away" foodland on Lanai: they are both charging $24 per lb for sensei lettuce (5.50-5.99 for 4 oz) while mainland lettuce is 2.99 per lb. 8x more expensive for the local product. BS!
For a guy who recently made $7B in one day, Larry could easily afford to feed every one of the 3,100 inhabitants who live on his island, forever!
Thanks to Larry Ellison for his part in trying to improve things in Hawaii.
Yeah right...a guy who hates God is really going to care about you?!
I have a strong feeling you've never tried living in Lanai
Improve?? Seriously?
He's just made Lanai his personal doomsday bunker and he's securing his food supply.
@@robinjohnson8149 he doesn't hate god atheists don't hate god. it's more than rationally they don't believe in god. Being an atheist doesn't make you a horrible person.
This is pretty awesome. I can see this evolving in a very diverse set of ways. Perhaps opportunity to involve Synthego, PerfectDay, Impossible foods and ModernMeadow.
This is very awesome! Larry has vision back then and moved to lanai in 2020, with Covid and many things changed. Looking back Larry seems wanting to help and do good for lanai. Only 160 billionaires (give or take) living in the states, not every billionaire is evil.
This was all PR BS. Never happened.
beautiful work for consumers 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Larry is my big boss. I have the ultimate respect for him. A true self-made man. Smart, compassionate, and cutting edge. The Hawaiian Sovereignty movement should acknowledge him for helping to make Hawaii self-sufficient. Sovereignty can not be achieved without self-sufficiency.
New to the topic but hearing that someone bought an entire hawaiian island made me gasp in a bad way. Hawaiians have to hope he is a good man that respects that he didn't buy into an island but a culture fighting to survive. If he is that man... Wonderful but it's an unsettling thought because if he isn't a good person? It would be reminiscent of another foreigner coming in claiming the land, trashing sacred sites of worship, oppressing and displacing the natives.....
Larry like Elmo has never delivered on a promise ever.
My hero.
Nice .. . sustainable energy .. Idol
In this age he has amazing body
@@william4238 are you trolling he looks great for his age 73 at the time.
Will it come to big island?
Tell me you’re on Larry’s payroll without saying you’re on his payroll. 😂
And still couldn't afford a decent mic or a dead cat... 😂
Hydroponic supermarkets could be the nexf Trader Joe's.
Larry Elison quero morar em Lunai com você. Abraço
Tony Stark or Howard Stark? Hmm....
Why not make a cavity in the ground and then grown the vegetables there? LEDs powered.
Does any know why are his hands like that? (out of curiosity)
Can't see anything obvious (like arthritis) in his hands. His face doesn't look that good.
@RJ what are you seeing??
I also dont see anything...
Veins
HE LOOKS VERY SIMPLE MAN 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
We need low-tech hydroponics so it can be deployed massively. Kratky.
Pero no como dicen q parece de 40 años q x q tiene 80 si esta un poco conservado pero no pars oarecer de 40 años
i saw your greenhouse setup. its completely wrong. it needs to be a sawtooth design from Top Pro Israel. Thats why all your Sensei lettuce is sold in single leaves b/c all the plants are 'bolted' from the heat. I can correct your problems for a fee.
Is he hiring help for this?
I'm happy to make myself available
hydroponics or aquaponics is only cheaper w solar for sure . If I have island like him I’ll do pearls , fish , shrimp, lobster farm n everything in the ocean n at the island 😅 give peoples work visa job at same time I make money too
I see this guy with orange corvette some times.
What he does for the area isn’t exactly good because 1 food should be grown naturally and 2 considering he owns 98% of the island it’s not even easy to live there especially when businesses can’t expand.
A smart and human billionaire
Human? Like every other billionaire?
GIVE BACK THE LAND YOU STOLE! 🌺
Larry needs to lose the Tesla batteries and solar panels and buy one of the new generation small nuclear reactors. Literally disaster-proof and could likely power the entire island and then some!
He is thirsty.
not even 100 billion can unblock that nostril
