Very nice. As usual, you *almost* make me feel like I'm there. Thanks for taking me along, again. Your videos are like an adventure and a meditation at the same time, and your music choices are always on point. Right down to the music of the ocean. ;)
I visited this resort before the renovation occurred, but what I will say is still true, with one possible exception. First, the facts. Dole Pineapple with the primary shareholder, a Mr. Murdoch, not Rupert, owned 96% of the island and employed Philippine laborers. Then, Dole moved to Southeast Asia to save labor costs, so these workers were unemployed. Murdoch bought the land and built two resorts at a cost of $800 million, Koele and Lanai, for the purpose of attracting wealthy tourists to buy his homes and condos. The local government stopped him, so he sold the island to Larry Ellison, whose purpose was to grow organic vegetables. One possible change since the renovation: I took a ferry from Maui and a van gave me a 5 minute ride to the resort, costing $47.00 per person. This charge might have been eliminated: gouging in paradise. The place is beautiful and the service wonderful, but the island's history is another example of the sad exploitation of the indigenous and immigrant laborers. Mr. Luxury Travel Expert should be more complete in his history of places to see.
I stayed in a large oceanfront view suite there last summer with my wife for our anniversary. The staff and service and service was outstanding. The golf course was also amazing. There is also an observatory there. Definitely reserve that. By the 8end of the second day the entire staff seemed to know our names, what we liked for breakfast, how e wanted our coffees. It was awesome. Great tennis pro there. The fact that the island is basically private caused my wife and I to feel like we were on our own private island. We liked it so much that we are heading back there for another five days this July. Highly recommend this place.
I do like the music choices you make for your videos. But I also have to agree that the best sound track for the ocean is the ocean itself. That lanai attached to the room was just lovely. All that greenery draped around, the view of the ocean. And the never ending blue sky. Very relaxing. The shallowness of the pools somehow doesn't bother me. There is a breathtaking ocean and beach right over there!
I stayed at this resort many years ago and had zero complaints, BUT I wouldn’t recommend it. There is another Four Seasons up in Lanai City. That’s where I wish I’d stayed. The truth is, if you want beaches, you are on the wrong island. There is a shuttle that runs between the resorts. If I had stayed at the other, I would have used the shuttle one day to see the ocean. As it was, I used the shuttle every single day to get away from the ocean. Lanai is a great island with truly the best locals. It’s known for visitors who are “Newlywed or Nearly Dead”. If you fit into one of those, be sure to go, but stay up in town.
Great review, stunning, and the music you add is awesome. Never been to Lanai, however, seen it many times from the air. Hope you keep providing more of these videos, along with more aviation as well. Thanks again, excellent!
Thank you again for this superb video! I love how you do it without commentaries. It just makes the video soo relaxing, watching it feels like meditation...on luxury! 😍 You also know the best angles, and just do everything smoothly. Again, love love it.
Something in common, Four Seasons is my favorite hotel brand as well! Glad to know Larry Ellison owns this one, I was not aware! Exceptional property! ❤
Your cinematography is truly unparalleled! My cousin is a retired oral surgeon (yes we’re a healthcare provider family) and retired on the island of Maui. I ❤️ Hawaii and it’s spirit of gracious Aloha. 😉. Btw, I liked the music ... it added to your presentation. Four Seasons, Aman, and Belmond properties, IMHO, offer a stellar holiday. One can never go wrong by staying at one of their outstanding hotels.
Looks amazing. Nice tropical & lush! I was at Grand Wailea last year and this place looks a lot less hectic. Peaceful. Looking forward to your video on Maui..Although the lobby, tropical gardens & pools at Grand were incredible, don't think I"ll go back-too crowded. Thanks, nice work. Mahalo!
I should be on my vacation now so I am watching your Hawaii videos instead 😆 I am loyal to Four Seasons (George V and Santa Barbara are my favourites) and Aman and until last year I loved Peninsula but a dreadful stay in Beverly Hills and a disappointing one in Shanghai knocked them off my list. The Dorchester hotels in Los Angeles were a great replacement for Peninsula, perfect stays. I’m dreaming of the day I can get back to Hotel Bel Air so I hope to try the Dorchester European offerings in 2021. It is hard to find a consistent chain in the luxury market but then that is part of the fun of travel, to be surprised and to anticipate. I have been to FS Wailea and your video brought back wonderful memories (I shared it with the whole family who were thrilled to have a virtual vacation) but this hotel is so peaceful and secluded, I think I’d be very selfish and enjoy this one all alone with a good book for a few days!
I had a chance to sail there a month ago (November 2019) on Trilogy Excursions from Lahaina, Maui. Trilogy has been sailing tourists to Lanai since the early 1970s. I went snorkelling in Hulopoe Bay for an hour, it was the best snorkelling anywhere in Hawaii (so far). The coral is still pristine and there are tons of fish, and the only people snorkelling were the 20 of us on the Trilogy Tour group, unlike Molokini Crater, where you may get kicked in the face by another snorkeller.
Very beautiful. We have stayed at FS Maui property. Also lovely. For a “partial ocean view” I would say that is a stretch in the imagination. Looking a rooftops is not an upgrade that I would choose. A “garden view” for less money would be almost the exact same.
I can vouch for the sand at Hulopoe Bay beach being hot. Our captain said the Hawaiian term means something like "sands of fire". I was there at 11:00 AM in late November and the beach was unwalkable in bare feet. I could only imagine what it would be like in the summer time...you would literally burn your feet.
i love all your videos they are awesome but could you maybe just add on, some of the unique bird and animal spices that will be fount at some of there's locations please thank you and keep up the great work.
10 years ago next month my wife touched Lanai. We were snorkeling with a tour from Lahaina. I waved to a fisherman. From a Candadian, our best trip ever. Miss Aloha! Miss Haleakala and Mauna Kea!
Thank you! Lanai is the one (public-accessible)Hawaiian island I haven't visited, and this is giving me ideas for when I finally make it there! (I'm hoping for when the Lodge reopens, actually).
It depends. Sometimes I do, Sometimes I don't. At a very high luxury resort like this one, I do ask it upfront so that they know what I am doing (to avoid any security issues). I've never encountered any problems so far.
Impressionnante réception. On aimerait bien se trouver là un jour en compagnie de la personne à qui on pense. Des images de rêve pour qui ne connait pas cette région du monde.
I was there for two weeks in 1992 when it was owned by Murdoch. As beautiful as it is now, you should have seen it then. The lobby was filled with orchids and it seemed more "exclusive"....not just another high end chain resort. Ah, the good old days!
Great video, I really want to visit. I miss Hawaii so much! The grounds on the resort are beautiful, but they give people the mistaken impression that Lanai is a lush tropical paradise, which of course it isn't. Lanai is a mostly desert-like environment.
Lanai is pretty much dry all over, but of course on an island like Maui, with the higher mountains, there is a distinct dry and wet side. But not many hotels on the wet side as who wants to visit a tropical island and have to deal with rain every day! I see you were in Wailea. I always thought that part of Maui was too dry and hot for my taste. I preferred staying on the western coast of Maui (Kaanapali to Kapalua). Up in Kapalua you'll occasionally get a brief shower in the afternoon, but I liked it, especially because it also meant almost daily rainbows. :-)
You are doing a great job by showing these beautiful places to people 💝 I just started watching your videos, you are superb. Feels like taking myself through all these beautiful places. This place is HEAVEN 💚
My dad is the food and beverage manager at that hotel and I live in Lanai witch a Hurricane Lane is happening so we are going to Four Seasons for portection
Most of this is on Google maps. The one thing I was hoping this video would show is the gym. Renting a vacation property next to the Four Seasons is an another way to go for anyone who likes to make their own meals. The ultimate experience would be a tent and campfire right on the beach.
