    Her discovery is funny because my husband “discovered” noodles when he was almost 30 and he’s black but we have very different backgrounds. His parents are Jamaican immigrants and never bought them. I grew up here and my family bought noodles because it was quick to make. My kids love them

    • @amandawilliams8708
      @amandawilliams8708 3 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      I can relate to him 🤣. In Jamaica, "poor/struggle" food was never any kind of "quick make" thing u can buy in the supermarket. N if we wanted cup noodles like we see Americans eat for example, struggle parents tell u "they can make the same thing for cheaper" n it woulda been some kinda spaghetti noodles with their version of seasoning or sum else crazy.

      Cooking from scratch is the cheapest and best way to eat but it's very time consuming and that's why people go for the prepackaged done in 3 minute meals in a box. These things used to be cheap but now they're getting expensive so it's even better to start making from scratch now. People just don't wanna take the time or don't know how to cook these days.

    • @hanadr
      @hanadr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Soul_Alpha I love to cook from scratch. But it takes A LOT of time and energy as well as planning ahead to do so. It's much harder if you work full time. I have built up a pantry of partially made freezer foods to help. Like frozen chicken stock and always make extra of anything I can freeze and be able to microwave later as a quick weeknight meal.
      It's not easy, as it takes a quite a bit of thinking ahead. As a single ft working mom, I understand the struggles and try not to judge others who lean on prepackaged food. Cause sometimes easy Mac is all you have the energy for and it always hits the spot!

    I like my noodles like a soup, and I would buy the Walmart frozen mixed veggies with the peas, the carrots, corn, cauliflower, the 78 cent bag of frozen veggies, throw in the noodles, and call it soup. I’m still broke, I’m a young mama, 4 kids at 27, my oldest 13, my youngest is 3, and noodle soup has always been there for us!
    My kids always got excited when we got a rotisserie chicken from Walmart because I would use the WHOLE chicken! After we striped the meat I’d boil the bones and the carcass and have it cook for 4 hrs and MAN that was an amazing broth for soup and gravies!

    For those of you who like your noodles with hot sauce, you should try a Korean kind I grew up with called Shin. The packs are about a dollar a piece but you get two servings worth per package, so it's more like 50 cents a serving.
    Anyhow, they're spicy beef flavored, and the noodles are thicker than the Japanese style, giving them a more satisfying bite. Really delicious stuff straight, but you can doctor them in all sorts of ways too. Give'em a try if you get bored with the norm, you won't be disappointed.

I said yeah, she then moved me from the counter with a quickness, fetched a pot, turned on the stove, cracked a egg open, and proceeded to put half of the seasonings from the cupboard into my noodles. She was mixing the noodles like she was cooking pounded yam. My noodles were from looking light, near colourless, and sorry, to looking like restaurant noodles. She then grabbed a bowl, turned the noodles in it, smiled and said "Now, THAT is how you cook noodles". I also washed the pot she used without even uttering a further word. Worked like a charm. Sometimes I would add frozen veggies and seafood mix before putting them in the microwave. But I used the non-fried noodles from the Korean store and miso and my own seasonings. I grew up eating noodles. Those were the times when I would look forward to eating them after school and for dinner too. My mom would always make them different ways and add different things to make it stretch. Im grateful I was fed and I am not ahsamed of how we lived. My kids have never eaten a noodle but, that wont stop me from whipping them out if ever we have to. Im sure they would love them. Thank God for noodles and to all those people who eat them, there is nothing wrong with it. But, to those that just now discovered them and are eating them for "fun fancy meals" just be grateful that you have options.

    The way she said "black people" and ran off and then "pickle" I died!!! EJ is so hilarious!! Growing up we never struggled and I never ate noodles until I met my now boyfriend and it took a lot for me to eat them because they never looked appetizing. I eat them occasionally and pour the water off of them, pour just a sprinkle of the seasoning and a dash of olive oil on mine. I also won't eat them if they are cooked past 2 minutes. They have to be on the hard side. I just eat them when I don't feel like cooking.

    Well hot diggity! I guess ramen has finally made it to lobster status.
    In the day lobster and generally most seafood was considered poor people food until rich people realized how delicious that was too.

    I won't say I just discovered them but this past year was the first time I ate them lol, not bad at all and I've gotten fancy with them. The reason they came on deck, I started canning for the first time and was putting the major of our money towards that and stacking them shelves. Will I ever stop eating them? Naw...they are deliciante 😋

    No, she's not trolling. She's just been privileged all of her life and never had to eat po folk food ever before. But why is it that when privileged folk "discover" po folk food, it automatically becomes a delicacy or gourmet as she called it? 🤔

    Ate noodles my entire college years. My single mom did her best. Ate noodles which I fixed on my one eye hot plate. And having noodles with cut up hotdogs was a gourmet feast. Yes sir.
