Let me know if you have ever noticed how often precast concrete steps sink and fail. It is mainly due to poor installation but they just seem to fail more than any other step options for your home... I wish I had seen this video before. I was just at the landscape company and bought two precast hollow core steps with 2 fillers to make two steps from our patio door to the paver patio that I hope to finish in the next month. I bought the 4 foot steps because they were only 220lbs so I could move them without a machine. Have you ever installed them? I'm wondering if I should just install them on a 7" base of gravel or if I should make a 4" concrete pad with rebar as a base. These steps are hollow in the center but have approximately 2" of concrete lip all around the base. Any suggestions before I install them?
It was a very fun project. I have done quite a few sets of steps in my career, certainly a challenge, but awesome sense of accomplishment when your done. ✌
I can't say I agree with your assessment of these stairs. Directing the force of a sledge hammer, multiple times, to a specific area would destroy wood steps as well IMHO. If properly supported, I think they'd be an option. What you did was overkill.
So when I say they always fail, I don't mean they fall apart.. I mean the front of the steps always sink because they dont support them properly. And what I did is not overkill in my opinion. We live in a country of laziness and foolishness that says doing a job properly is silly and overkill.... I like to build things to last, not fall apart every few years. That is when you end up spending more money in the long run because you did the cheap option 5 times in 20 years instead of doing it right the 1st time and not have to worry about for decades down the road... ✌

I’ve had mine for 20 years just gotta install right
I agree, the concrete itself will last a long time when laid on a solid footing ✌
Thank you for encouraging the little frog to hop over and be with the big frog. 🧡
No problem , You just got to show love to even the smallest creatures here in this world. ✌
Good job guys
Thanks! ✌
Great information brother.👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Looking forward to your next great video 👍🏻💯
Thanks, plenty more to come!
I always auger two 18" holes to beneath the Frostline under all my steps and then build on top of that!
It would be nice if more people did that... or at least some kind of prep other than laying blocks on dirt, then setting the steps on them....
