I find very few of Porsche's body designs appealing --- especially the contemporary designs. This design, however, I love. And the engine sound is fantastic.
Once about 31 years ago I got the chance to drive a couple of 356c super 90 s from california, to this day it remains my happiest automotive day, and I've driven many other cars including my current one which is 1976 alfa romeo GTV

@@hankwilliams5622 don't be sorry, I know the 356 is almost a crude rudimentary or even primitive compared to a luscious alfa, but they are an extremely honest product, the engine is not just a faster beetle engine it's a technological marvel, the chassis super light yet taut like a tank, and coupled with that double wishbone set up is a treat to drive, every inch of that car is built using quality materials, as Wolfgang porsche said in an interview about the 911 "you just could not produce the same quality as we had done with the 356", my very first car was an alfasud and i've loved them ever since and with good reason given the cars pedigree but they do lack quality especially with their wobbly chassis but I get excited just standing next to it so yes 356 is gonna have to wait
@@turistomer3702 maybe the Alfa Sud lacks quality, agreed, but a real Alfa like a Duetto Spider or GTV feels much brawnier than a 356 and I've driven these cars...
Top speed varies according to which engine was specified. The 1600 Normal ( Die Dame) version was 60 hp and would do about 105 mph. The rare 4 cam Carerra models were about 130 hp ( more in later years) and would top 130 depending on gearing. I ran several different engines in mine. The fastest was with a heavily modified VW motor, about 125 hp, that would rev to 8500 rpm. The higher rpm limit of this motor allowed a top speed of 145 mph. These cars were very light and aerodynamic. Probably my favorite automobile owned of many.
When I look at a 356, I don't see a Porsche, I see the 2nd generation Beetle, had the allies not forbidden Dr Porsche to regain control over VW, after the war.
