  • A closer look at a Thwaites dumper, all the joints and the engineering behind it. Powerd by a 1964 Petter AVA2, the original engine it came out from the factory.

    Just childhood memories, started by my father , who as a builder, had a thwaites Jumbo dumper and then bought a brand new Thwaites Nimbus dumper in 1964. Both with 1 cylinder AVA engines and both classed as 15cwt capacity dumpers (750 kilogram)

    Pretty simple way of doing a clutch, thanks for the details on that. It's a really nice race course you've got there!

      Yes, the clutch is quite interesting.

      Haha, just needs some rail tracks ;). Its really a clever and cheap design for that clutch in that time. I dont know yet the condition of the shoes. Wonder where am gona find I I`ll need any. Thanks Mate

      @@enginelover1 I suspect they are standard for some car though you could probably get them a new pair of pads riveted to the original shoes.

    I miss the activation of subtitles but in the same way, thanks for showing us this simple vehicle that is so important in cargo and transport tasks, here in Spain they were single-cylinder, Diter brand engine, greetings.

    Gallifords had a fleet of tuskerswhen theybuilt the Coventry ring road in the 1960’s. Coventry city council had a tusker with the digger attachment on the front where the skip is and it towed a tipping skip on two wheels behind it at around the same time. What wonderful dumpers they were with the AVA twin cylinder engine. They had a different sound to the PH engines.

    Fantastic machine to own. Love how smooth the running gear on it is, forward to reverse so smooth and don't have to stop.

      @enginelover1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed it is very smooth. All straight cut gears inside the box. How are things over there Paul? Thanks for stopping by :)

      @@enginelover1 life here is good but a major worker shortage so having to work long hours and no time for working on engines. We have opened our borders now so covid everywhere but very few people getting sick, one or two days and recovered. All restrictions quickly being removed now. Life is getting back to normal with lots of international travel again.

    I do like the AVA engines. I have a 1 which needs a new pump as a previous owner cracked the pump trying to slow it down with a hammer. I believe it is the same as the PH1. The new made in India 1 I have needs a little modification.... Just as well I have a machine shop.
    I liked your rolling reverse start! You do have some steep inclines around you.

    • @enginelover1
      @enginelover1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is the flange broken from the bottom? I hade one once, and have welded it. The AV range has smaller bore. The incline is a pile of soil. Thanks for your comment Ben

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@enginelover1 Yes, it is broken at the bottom but is aluminium. The part numbers did check out. Mind you it is possible that the original is wrong. I will did the bits and and post a video for comments. Many thanks.
