Let's not conveniently forget, after the USSR/Warsaw Pact dissolved in the 90's, Russia was promised no NATO troops would be stationed on their border. Also, in the past 200 years, five times Western powers like Britain, France, Germany and the US have invaded Russia - killing millions. Today, over 26 NATO nations surround the worried Russian people.
Since around 2010, the Ukraine was dealt with neo NAZI elements in their police, military and government. Recently, these police have refused refugees from African, Asian and Middle Easterners in using transport to leave the war torn area. NAZI military units have killed thousands in the ethnic Russian Donbass region, and the government grows weaker.
Prof. John Mearsheimer has spoke of Russian national security concerns and how it was a bad idea to push Ukraine membership into NATO. The Ukraine, instead, should join European neutral nations like Austria, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland.

Will the new USA sanctions against China raise strong doubts to the relationship between USA and China.

Volodymyr Zelensky, nuff said! Mommy, when I grow up I want to be just as bad ass as Volodymyr Zelensky. Maybe my friends will pull their eyes away from the eighteenth remake of Spiderman to bear witness to a real superhero? I am sure policy makers are wringing their sweaty palms and tossing and turning at night over this most profound moral dilemma. Rather than submit to its fate, fall down and play dead, Ukraine became a ferocious porcupine to Russia's bear.

If Xi knew what Putin was up to, how have Putin fooled Xi in this collaboration?

Excellent discussion. My own sense is that a more integrated US-Europe relationship with an enlarged defence budget plus a US-Quad relationship should mean that the China-Russia alliance cannot be either a surprise nor a concern. The US should NOT make overtures to China to pull them out of their alliance with Russia because China will hurt with the new western allignment because China is a lot more integrated with the Global supply chain. India should dump Russia and throw their entire weight with Quad, which will be a lot more than just the US

Russian arms cost less then Quad arms for India. The US is not keen on selling advanced weapons to India because Pakistan would get upset, and, should the sale go through, Pakistan would move politically closer to China, which would make the US feel like they shot themselves in the foot. That leaves the UK or Australia selling arms to India which would be more expensive and probably not as good as US arms.

Why is the default world view that the West must create a bloc to oppose Russia and China? Why isnt the goal to make efforts to get Russia and China to be part of the club? Isn't what you promoting just cementing military blocs and inevitably leading to a global conflict?
