- Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Srinagar, said that it never in the history of India the statehood has ever been revoked and Union Territories are formed, referring to the Centre’s 2019 decision. Mr. Gandhi arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, to hold discussions with senior Congress leaders and National Conference (NC) leaders, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. The two parties have been conducting backchannel talks to finalize seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
