I don't like splayed legs but the way you have them inset makes the whole piece wonderful. Chestnut is my guess. Love the drawer pulls and good call to just have another one made.

Great job and story! Love that you saved a piece from disaster. Epoxy is too hard when dry to sand rhe way you were wanting to. It also won't stain because it's plaatic. There are products that WILL work for that purpose though, like stainable wood filler. Epoxy isn't usually the best to use on restoring furniture. It's more for using where you need a ton of strength such as regluing a tricky stress joint. Adding the sawdust to regular wood glue is a good wood filler but again, putting it in the center of the top like that you run the risk of it not taking the stain as well as the surrounding wood.

And it always worked for me. I have tried so many different wood fillers, wood putty’s etc. and I found my favourites but none of them works as good as the epoxy mixture. I just have to be careful experimenting with an epoxy from different stores and stick to the one that works for me. And also I have to remember that sometimes less is more 😄
