I spent a lot of summers in Red River and Taos. RR may look and act like a ski town, but the summer is BUSY! Lots of offroading, hiking, fishing, and mountain biking. I love that area of New Mexico.
Chris, I’m from Glorieta, NM and we travel to Taos often; and I recognize some of the geography you drove and camped on. Best kept secret areas needing more visitors who can appreciate it; thanks for exposing New Mexico to your viewers! And yes NM is in the USA folks 😎
The first day with a new mouth, LMAO! . I'm totally stealing that one from you, Chris. Love, Love that sense of humor. Add in the pots and pans clanging together, 100% old wagon western film.
I just completed every episode. I never thought a YT on 4 Wheeling would keep me interested, but this does. I’m a cyclist, mt. biker and gravel rider but still love watching an Orange Jeep out in the Outback. One of the best features is the fact that Chris gets out of the vehicle every chance he gets to explore on foot. I greatly admire that, it’s in keeping with Edward Abbey, who wrote in Desert Solitaire “You can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamn contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees, over the sandstone and through the thornbrush and cactus. When traces of blood begin to mark your trail, you'll see something, maybe.”
Give me all of New Mexico !! Its culture, colors, people, food, high deserts, rivers, and mountains give it a lot of flavor. especially in the summer for me. Thank you for showing places I will never get to see, but I like knowing it's there. .🥰🏜️🌵☀️
The scenery reminded me of a trip out to Philmont back in the day and sure enough looking at Gaia you were just around the corner from the place. That area is beautiful. Thanks for sharing it!
We have alot of old Spanish markings here in Taos county as well as native. I've been here 15 years and still haven't managed to see everything. Enjoy your time here!
I was raised here in Taos. My great great grandparents were sheep herders here. I still find new things while hiking the mountains. I've found many caves in the rocks across the river going down to John Dun Bridge in Arroyo Hondo.
@@trex9194 cool! Have you seen the "dead gila monster" petragliff north of the bridge on the edge of the river? It's so faint that I doubt it'll be there much longer. The boulder is under water some of the time. Wish I could have gotten out more.
Thanks for sharing the mountains around Taos and we really liked Finnegan and Shannon’s camp spot. We hope to travel those back roads one day. The mountains call us all the time........As usual we enjoyed your video.
Combining the Jeep and the Revel works nicely and you are both ‘happy campers’. This grey rocks look volcanic in nature. Taos is Texan ski country. Well done.
No, something is off on this show he had a lot editing that was bad, I'm thinking his girlfriend took over or something. I love his shows but it was not well put together this week
It's is amazing how life changes. I started watching your videos for the side trails and adventures. It's ok now with yourself and Shannon, but lacks the outdoor adventure when you can just keep going, camping where needed and when and just plain not stopping into another state or county or dirt path or road. Life is important to one if one is happy, Happiness and Love make all seen that tomorrow will be another great adventure. Take the High Road and have no regrets and move forward, always.
12:40 is the John Dun Bridge. If you head up the west side road the first switchback turn you can park there. There is a trail heading south of the turn that lead to a hot spring people like to soak in.
We've spent a substantial amount of time around Taos. We love that whole area! Quite a bit of our channel was filmed in that area! Love your vids....keep up the good work!
If you’re having trouble with your contacts, and they’re Acuvue, please report the issue. I work for Johnson & Johnson and I make Acuvue contacts and we take a lot of pride in our products.
I’m going to be blunt... Chris I’m very happy that you found someone, but your adventure channel is changing and the adventure is getting soft. Best of luck!
Yep..always one of the most interesting things are lack of people..you have to admit the people that live those areas are both incredibly fascinating n have a story to tell of how n why they got there...something to think about n thank you both
Red River is my kind of town, old, unspoiled by modernism. I used to know lots of towns that have changed beyond all recognition, Flagstaff, Sedona, Payson, Moab, great pity, they loose all the personality they used to possess. Red River is somewhere I could still live.
Northern NM cooking is the BEST of its type on the planet. Choose Red or Green or Christmas (both). After 10 years in Santa Fe, we (wife and I) sadly cannot find this type of cooking east of NM.
Yup! I poked a hole in my drivers rear while bombing down a rough gravel road for 8 miles. From the time my low tire light came on, and I switched screens to the 4 tire pressure display to the time I was back on the road was under 30 minutes. And that included 1/4 mile more of the gravel road before I was on pavement in a parking lot, as well as the use of an MV50 12v compressor (fairly slow fillup). One and done. That happened on the morning after my first night on a 1 week trip. The plug is still in that tire holding air 100% after almost a year now.
Chris should really make a cookbook with his creations like 13:37. You can’t always eat gourmet, but you don’t want the same thing over and over again. Lifestyle Overland knows how to cook, but Chris has “Quick and easy but creative.”
I know you're just trying to be kind here, but the reality is... that Chris is the equivalent of a twelve-year-old in the grocery store with his mom's credit card.
Awesome episode, Chris. I love Taos. When stationed San Antonio, TX, a group of us used to go to Taos during the ski season and usually stayed in Red River. I actually preferred Red River over Breckenridge or other ski resorts in Colorado as it wasn't as crowded.
Great episode! I absolutely love this area. Headed to Navajo Lake in a couple of weeks. Hoping to have a beer and eat some green chile fare dockside. Peace!
Great overview of the Taos area. They do have great Mexican places there! Hey, if that steel trestle bridge is the one I'm thinking of, there are some great soaking hot springs right near there :)
Finnigan! Man, I gotta tell ya... My better half and I start our Sunday with your videos with our morning coffee in bed. And we hadn't seen Finnigan in a few Van episodes, and then when you guys were moving out of storage and went out of your way to bring the picture of Finn, we were starting to worry that he might have taken the big dirt nap. We were super happy to see him soaking up the sun in his little dog bed today! On a separate note, I don't know how that metal cup bonging around on your roll cage doesn't drive you insane. I'd have hucked that thing into a gorge by now. Also: You don't carry a tire plug kit? Especially since you already have the compressor, might get you out of a bind sometime. I've got the ARB kit and like it. Skookum tools and good rubber plugs. Since you maintain a good quality spare it's not as important and might not be worth the space in your gear, but don't know if you've ever experimented with one.
Another great informative video. And its fun to watch a guy eat like a 12 yr old boy left on his own lol Pizza hotdogs hamburgers grilled cheese Awesome
Hi Chris, love your channel!!! Question, on the waypoints and tracks, would I be able to tell the highly technical 4x4 roads from the gravel/not so technical? I don't have a winch nor experienced enough, yet... Keep up the good work!!
Dude, you absolutely need to go to Pizza Outback in Taos. The pizza are completely amazing and the salads/pesto dressing are the bomb. I am not joshing you at all!!! It is a must do if you are still in the area or when you come back, being that you are a Pizza-farian.
A question for Chris as to why you've not headed into the Maze territory ?. Its accessible from the south off Utah Rt 95 if you want to skip using Flint Trail. In theory there's dispersed camping, but some areas have restrictions and require a designated campsite be reserved and used.
Won't work ... yet. The current version is not designed for mobile and it's limited to the area you order the service from. Down the road, yes, it will be viable for mobile use.
I saw on the local news 3 days ago that a person can order a Cheez-It cake to celebrate the 100th birthday of Cheez-Its. While in New Mexico you should try New Mexican food. It's a blend of 1st nations, Mexican & American cuisine. It's a lot like Mexican food but has a milder taste & different flavor and like everything in New Mexico, you can get red or green with it.
Hey Chris, check out weboost drive x. i also love my cell service in my camper for internet use. the drive x is kinda pricey but it really works! i can get service in places there is no signal even showing on my phone with a good enough connection and speed to watch streaming video as i am watching this video now from the back country in my camper.
Sorry, but you lost me when you commented that you were solo hiking down a stream bed with no water and left behind your emergency GPS. A simple slip or rattler could have created an expensive S and R. Be careful.
Years ago , Sprint's coverage map showed cell coverage all across Kansas along I-70. We drove I -70 from Salina to Colorado. Absolutely ZERO cell service along that stretch. 50 miles into Colorado my phone starts lighting up with alerts as if it came back to life.
I have been watching you for about 3 years now, I know 2020 was a bad year for everyone, I find watching your video's now aren't as informing as the past.
Really enjoy how you don't add music or special affects to your video's. They feel genuine and real.
Getting a call from the mountains,, Loved It and not corny, those are my best calls.

PHEW thanks for letting us know Finegan is alive and well!
The scenery reminded me of a trip out to Philmont back in the day and sure enough looking at Gaia you were just around the corner from the place. That area is beautiful. Thanks for sharing it!
I love Red River! One of my favorite areas to camp!
I love the mountains so much! Beautiful!! Nice find!😃🥾🥾
A classic!
Wow, thank you 🙏
Always a treat to watch this channel and happy to see Finegan soaking in the sun❤️ content is so good! marking Taos on my todo list!
I like it immediately. Just like a quality candy bar, you always know what you're getting before opening it out of the wrapper.

Your LOTR comments get me every time man 😂 " hobbits under blankets"
Finnigan loves the warm sun on his old bones🙂
Love the video. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous! Great video!
I skid red river a few years ago. One of my favorite places.
Life was a maze and now (with Jeep and the Van) it's amazing 👍.
Combining the Jeep and the Revel works nicely and you are both ‘happy campers’. This grey rocks look volcanic in nature. Taos is Texan ski country. Well done.
Taos is New Mexican ski country. The Texans do invade frequently
this is turning into Mr Rogers Neighborhood with the "happy little fire ring"
You might be thinking of bob ross.
Loved the timelapse at 14:40. Another fantastic episode.
Am I not alone in wishing these were longer? P e a c e
No, something is off on this show he had a lot editing that was bad, I'm thinking his girlfriend took over or something. I love his shows but it was not well put together this week
I work at the Ace behind Antonio’s! Great video...funny seeing my work there at the end.

You always make the best of everything Chris. Even a flat tire. You get into some neat small towns. Your friend in Pennsylvania. Bob

I was hopeful we'd go international (more). Does not feel like that's going to happen now.
Yum. Grilled Pepperoni and Cheese sandwiches sound wonderful! I need to give them a try! Thanks!
Bob Villa of travel 😊 Keep on truckin'
Yep..always one of the most interesting things are lack of people..you have to admit the people that live those areas are both incredibly fascinating n have a story to tell of how n why they got there...something to think about n thank you both
Now you're talking! That's heaven on earth up there!
Nailing it, week after week. Danke.
I really love the Questa area, camped near Cabresto Lake and did the Heart Lake hike in the morning, awesome awesome country.
Of course, "the mountains are calling" :)
Glad to see you back in the mountains.
Red River is my kind of town, old, unspoiled by modernism. I used to know lots of towns that have changed beyond all recognition, Flagstaff, Sedona, Payson, Moab, great pity, they loose all the personality they used to possess. Red River is somewhere I could still live.
Glad to see you're in Nm Chris, there are a lot of great trails around Red River. If you're ever back there check out Goose Lake trail amongst others.
That isn’t Mexican food, it’s New Mexican food. And I’m very glad you enjoyed it!
Yup. I am a Norteno. Antonio's is most definitely Norteno food.
Good point. There is a difference.
Ketchup over BBQ sauce?
Northern NM cooking is the BEST of its type on the planet. Choose Red or Green or Christmas (both). After 10 years in Santa Fe, we (wife and I) sadly cannot find this type of cooking east of NM.
The Shed
You need to get a tire plug kit they're actually quite easy to use and pretty fast
Keep thinking this, with as many times he picks up a nail or screw in his tires.
YUP,
Fast, Cheap, and Proven.. plug cords
Yup! I poked a hole in my drivers rear while bombing down a rough gravel road for 8 miles. Yeah! Ive had tires go 10's of thousands of miles after plugging. Never had an issue as long as its the tread area thats punctured.
Looks like he made out? New rotors?

@@Matt02341 to be fair, I believe that 12 year old quote belongs to one of Chris's friends, describing his grocery store selections.
Thank you for letting us know Finnegan is ok. Last episode had us worried
New Mexico is a wonderful state to visit, have to keep that restaurant in mind.
I like the idea of making stale bread, unstale with butter!
Awesome episode, Chris. I love Taos. When stationed San Antonio, TX, a group of us used to go to Taos during the ski season and usually stayed in Red River. I actually preferred Red River over Breckenridge or other ski resorts in Colorado as it wasn't as crowded.
Will be in the area in 4 days. Can’t wait
Definitely both! Coffee AND Pizza!! though preferably not at the same time!
LOVED it. More New Mexico videos, please.
I purchased sky roam I have internet at every camp site i have stayed in especially in the mountains .Its amazing.
Best half hour every weekend
love it.
“I made the bread unstale just by adding a ton of butter” 😂😂😂
Aha, I see you have taken my advice and added more cowbell to your inclinometer.
Oh i thought it was a loose pot or pan. 🇨🇦
I got a fever and the only cure is more cowbell.
Lol, becoming his trademark.....the pan gong, lol
Good episode
Awesome content

You don't disappoint. New Mexico is on my radar. This is one of my favorites in a while. Conjunctivitis?
Taos and that area have the best of what NM has to offer, imho. The whole state is great, but the Taos area is the crown jewel. Winter or summer
