This is a stunning performance of this piece. When we think of what was happening in Howells' life at this moment, it is amazing at just how clear his mind was about making beauty. I had the thrill of singing this in wonderful choirs (Brick Presbyterian - NYC under David Weadon, St John's in the Village under Ed Miller, Rye Presbyterian, Rye, NY under Kevin Walters.) Wow! An outstanding rendition of a lovely piece. If I was just listening and didn't know who was singing, I would have guessed it was the Choir of Kings College Cambridge, or another top British choir.
The essence of choral singing! Such a beautiful rendition. I've sung Howell's "King David," but have not heard any of his other repertoire. I'll have to look further.
Sang this under the direction of David Davidson - at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas - with his Chamber Singers (about 24 singers) almost 30 years ago. It's good to hear it performed well again.
When I was in the choir at my church, this was the hardest piece I've ever had to sing; it was at a memorial service and though I stayed in tune, I was letting the tears flow also.
