I’ve enjoyed watching your Alaskan voyage. I admire your intrepid spirit of adventure, and your teamwork as a couple. You’re on the adventure of a lifetime… I hope you are both fairing well, and the memories you forge in your daily struggles, find many views. I’ll always view with keen interest, and genuine excitement each time I see two happy sailors finding adventure together. So cool!
Hello and thank you so much for the wonderful comment and for watching! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed the AK series- it was a grand adventure into the wilderness. We hope continue to document our travels so stay tuned- lots more adventure coming up! Thank you again and cheers from the whole crew!
I just made that passage in mid August, bringing my Pearson 35 from Anacortes to Astoria, and up the Columbia to my home port in Umatilla. We've had glorious summer weather until literally just now.
@@CruisingMaya It was the best time ever. We had to motor sail the whole way and got into a squall off long Beach wa, the captains chair went through the cockpit sole into the steering quadrant and jammed it up at the worst moment, but we got it cleared. Finally had a great offshore breeze coming into the Columbia. The trip up river was just gorgeous. No wind all the way. We found great places to anchor and tie up along the way. Felt like boat camping. Made it home without incident. Had so much fun im thinking about sailing back up for next summer to sail the San Juans again, and retrace the trip back down the coast. 🥰
Really liking your style: no big dramatic intro to hook us, just sailing and living your sailing life. Maybe see you out there one day when we head to Alaska ❤️⛵️
Thanks so much- we try to convey an honest picture of what our cruising looks like. Low key and lots of amazing places. Appreciate the comment and you watching!
I was just thinking about the city of Seattle, Washington and how parts of its fortune came from logging; especially with cities like San Francisco being its most important customers in terms of logs and lumber. Sailing out of the Puget Sound to the San Francisco Bay was quite fast compared to land travel, taking about a week vs. 2 months.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos. Currently working on the new episode now- I am hoping to have the new video out by Monday. Sorry for the long delay- we are crazy busy working full time now. New video looks really good though and its 20+ minutes so stay tuned!!
Hey there! We made it to Sitka. Thanks for your advice. We shared lots of your anchorages. We head to Mexico beginning of august. Maybe we will pass you along the way. We may do Mexico to Hawaii to kodiak next year. You are welcome to jump on for a leg. Safe travels!
Great to hear you made it to Sitka! Hope you've had a great trip! We're planning on cruising in Mexico the start of next year so maybe we'll see ya! Safe travels! 🍻
We scope up pretty much every multi day passage- this one included. The medicine definitely helps, although it takes me (Mac) a day to adjust to the swell.... and the ocean off WA, OR, and NorCal is rolly. Jenny never got seasick and she attributes that to the medicine. Definitely worth taking on passage!! Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Great Video's! what time of year did you start your trip down the coast? and what group is that you are sailing with? I did this passage about 10 years ago from Bremerton WA to SF, I decided to do it in one shot about 100 miles off shore, lots of fog and not much wind for quite a bit of the passage. can't wait to see more!
Ahoy! We left Neah Bay on Sept 1st or 2nd. We were part of the sailing rally group, "Coho Ho Ho", which helps cruisers make the jump from Washington to San Francisco.
Great videos you guys. About 40 years ago, I made the trip from Neah Bay to San Francisco in one jump in early September and had quite a wild ride. I then went on to spend five years cruising the South Pacific all the way to Australia and back, and I have to say that Neah bay to San Fran was the worst passage I experienced in the whole five years and that included a passage from NZ through the roaring 40's. When I returned , I thought I had got the sailing bug right out of my system. Well guess what ? I now have a 35' steel sailboat and contemplating the same trip again, only this time I'm thinking of leaving earlier ,, maybe July or August. Look forward to more of your videos
Thats generally what sailboats do....i bet watching the video would answer your questions They mention "watches" meaning they take turns at the helm and in the rack..
Love your journey! Im from Beaverton OR and im on a 2 year plan to get a sailboat and depart from the West coast. Goodluck and looking forward to your adventure! Also if you don’t mind me asking what you did for work and how long do you plan on sailing with your income? Thank you again
I (Mac) am a marine electrician and Jenny works in healthcare. For a few years we just took summers off to cruise, the would work during fall, winter, and spring. Our trip to AK and down to Mexico was the first time we took a whole year off. We are back working for 6 months before heading back to the boat for another 6 months. We covered trip costs for our AK portion and will cover trip costs for the rest of our long trip, which you may find interesting. Thanks for watching!
I've told many sailors the same thing I am going to tell you. When you are on a long passage DO NOT DO 3 HOUR WATCHES . EVERY PERSON is subject psychotic episodes after 3days without AT LEAST 3 hours of sleep solid sleep . I've done the research Ideal 12 hours The realistic 8 The minimum is 4 hours Ask me how I know? I did 3&3 up north in a week I never saw daylight for a week. The sun was only up about 3 hour in December at that latitude. I was fruit nutcake crazy. After that nightmare was over and I was over it I researched the shit out of it. DON'T DO LIKELIHOOD OF A ACCIDENT IS ASTRONOMIC
Thanks for the comment! I think longer shifts are better, but I cant imagine doing 22 hr shifts. I think we'll probably shift to 4 or 5 hour shifts in the future. Thanks for watching- 🍻
Hey there! I work at a warehouse in Anacortes, WA. Looks like they delivered some tropical hats that belong to y’all. Please hit me up, and if you have another address I could ship em to just let me know.
@@CruisingMaya Yeah, they showed up with the morning ups delivery today. We get a good amount of cases ups driver just missed it. We started going thru our orders found the box Googled the name and found the TH-cam channel.
Got any tips on research materials for the west coast leg? I'm thinking of heading south from BC. Tired of the short season and high expense. I'm singlehanded and hoping to stop most nights
We joined a group called the Coho Hoho which helps educate people about making the jump from Washington to Southern California. Really fun group that I'd recommend looking into! Thanks for your question and for watching.
Great music!
You did it! Great job, rest up ❤
good one

How was your passage? That's cool you went up the river. You dont hear about cruising boats going up the columbia too often.

Hi do you guys plan maybe sailing from Panama to Florida?
As of right now, we don't have plans to sail east. Although I won't rule that out- boat plans are always in flux.
We really enjoy watching your adventures! Hope you had a great trip down to Mexico, and all is well! When can we expect the next video?

Good stop location for a layover, one of the best bar crossings. What time of year was this?
Newport was a great stop- we'll cover more of our time there in the next episode.
We launched from Neah Bay on September 1st, 2021.
Did you guys sail at all?
Yea we did- probably about 50/50 from Neah Bay to Newport.
Great job and thanks for documenting the passage! Did the scopalomine not work, or did you decide to forgo it this time?

Why did you gimble your radar? Do you really think there's an advantage?
The boat came with the unit gimbled... seems to work well!
What size boat? How did you spend the nights? Sailing?
Thats generally what sailboats do....i bet watching the video would answer your questions
