📖 Our Story:
We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

Pulling the painter's tape off is always the most satisfying part! And, as planned, the door all but disappears when closed, letting the stone and hemp walls be the star of the show!

I don't know who could have been more relieved when you were finishing the floor at the door area, you or I ! - having done quite a lot of such work in the past, and the cleaning of the 'stones/tiles' after it, I have a real appreciation for the diligence required in so much attention to detail and the quality of the finish

I was taught that when pushing in grout and removing excess, you should move the float diagonally to the direction of the tiles. That way you don’t run the risk of removing too much in any one direction. Just FYI.
Having been a finisher for at least 25 years and skimmed a lot of walls . I can tell you if you go in 2 different directions every coat, meaning top to bottom and left to right you will get a much smoother surface, much faster.

The stone wall absolutely dominates the room (in a good way!), so I agree that white paint was the best choice for the walls & ceiling. When you add in the terra-cotta floor, you really don’t want another color mixed in. You haven’t been wrong yet with your choices so I am content to just follow along.😊

Wow! I'm wondering how it feels to see the room finished, almost? Caiu was certainly wondering why he was being filmed! Big changes. I love his crooked ear. Rakish! The design choices you've made make your home sing. Your house must be as jubillant and proud as you are. You've brought her back to life!
It feels really good! There is still a lot of work but not having to touch these walls again is great 😂
I wondered why having the flat doors was so important to you, and now I see what a clean effect they have on the lines of the room. It's gorgeous! What surprises could you have in terms of furnishings? A Victorian fainting couch in purple silk? Saffron-colored poufs with small stones and mirrors embedded in them? A zebra skin on the floor?
Probably none of the above 😄 It will be DIY for sure!
