He was PHENOMENAL in that movie!
I agree, however the movie’s main criticism of bad stigma of the illness DID does annoy me, but fictionally its a good film, and he’s of course great in it, scary as well - tho this is also a problem (showing DID people should be feared and are inherently dangerous).
He deserved and Oscar for his role in Split more than all actors who have ever gotten an Oscar or two. Seriously, he was so good!

How in the hell is _Split_ only at number 3? Sure, his performance in _Atonement_ might have earned him a Golden Globe nomination, but I feel _Split_ is the film that shows him at his most fearless, so to speak, which I think matters more than anything.

@@ororomunroe4055 Hannibal was the first place I saw him and was honestly surprised that he wasn't more famous. He's a very good actor. Terminaly underused and underappreciated.
@@cuac5869 Hugh Dancy said he doesn't want to do Hollywood or be super rich and famous which is admirable lots are desperate for that and don't have half his talent, unfortunately it plays against him and he flies under the radar save for Hannibal fans that know him well, since he doesn't want to do Hollywood I hope he finds some big show that earns him the awards and recognition he deserves!

@@user-qg3ww7wk7y for me though he's already been recognize as a great actor, even before he starred in one of the characters in Marvel. he may not be as famous as Leonardo DiCaprio, James Dean, Tom Cruise, etc. he already had the same brilliance acting like them. i even compare his acting to Juaquin Phoenix which also a brilliant actor. and James has a very good charisma in acting.
@@fantasyalover4782 if he continues working like he has he might become as famous even if awards ignore him, the Oscars sometimes ignore the best actors, took them ages to give Leo his long overdue Oscar so while it might take ages for James to be noticed by the Oscars he's already making his name and it won't be long before he gets in Leo/Joaquin league. Most people already know him now, he's been in a lot this year.

Agree. I wasn't a big fan of Split, although I'm sure that role was pretty fun to play with such a wide array of characters. I thought Filth was pretty awesome.
I can't believe I cried at the ending of Filth when he plays on paper such an unlikeable character. That shows James' ability as an actor to give the character range and depth.
I discovered him through that movie. And surprisingly admired his talent. After watching split and glass, never doubted him that he could not do it perfectly.
How can Tom LeFroy from Becoming Jane not be on this list?? That was the movie that made me love James McAvoy!

His acting in Split was phenomenal! When I first watched it, I was like, "Hold on... THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON?!" He became one of my favorite actors after that.

@@charliedavidarnott1537I've seen his work I don't need you to name anything, I know he's good but not on James' league. James is slowly approaching the big leagues, hope he continues and one day gets some award love he was robbed for Split, and Filth absolutely flew under the radar. But the fact he was snubbed for Split is criminal, not many actors would be able to pull that character off. I can only think of Joaquin Phoenix being able to pull off James role in Split, he's well known for playing complex and disturbed characters.

There are things that David can do that I haven't seen James do to the same level. I would put James on the same level as someone like John Simm- a very fine actor but not in Tennant's league.

Hell yes, I agree with the top five in exactly the same order. Given what little time is spent with Robbie and Cecelia together, the intensity of their connection still sells absolutely. I think why McAvoy's characters are so charismatic is due to his ability to play them vulnerably, making his Robbie right on the dime, and every other character he plays in the top five utterly proves it.

The first time I saw James was Mr. Tumnus, in the Narnia Movie. He was so sweet. Split, he was definitely over the top!

As much as I loved him in "Atonement", "Split" is his best performance, followed very closely by "Filth", which made me put him on my Top 3 favourite actors (and that's not easy). Charles Xavier would have to be a much more impressive character to win from those other 2 performances.
Viewing this years late allows for the addition of the lightning fast personality changes in Glass. Extremely impressive.
His role as Conor in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby is excellent!

I took ATONEMENT so personal that I could scarcely continue without a million tears falling down my face. He was absolutely wonderful in that movie. I felt so sad at the ending.

I understand why Tumnus wasn't on this list - he wasn't really in the movie enough. Just made my husband watch Penelope today.. He always gives amazing performances and never disappoints. I would have switched out Arthur Christmas with Gnomeo and Juliet though.
He deserves more attention, he's just the best and the most talented actor in my opinion
James' acting is powerful in every role..villain or hero..you always can relate to his character. I wouldn't compare the films..that's unfair. He is just excellent with every performance. The movies I have watched the most are 'Filth, Welcome to the Punch, Frankenstein, Trance and Submergance'...ah, and 'Split and Glass' of course.

It’s slightly different delivery, particularly when he gets hit by the bus (taxi? I can’t remember) and when they talk at the apartment in the end. My absolute FAVORITE scenes and they didn’t include them in the combined movie. 😔
@dianaog67 the combined movie was only made on the studio's insistence to be released in theaters as one movie. The actual thing is to watch the his version followed by her version and be the judge yourself. That's the way they intended for it to be seen. What a beautiful piece of art!!

His best performance is in Glass. He plays like 23 +1 characters. And he changes trough those personalitilies so well it’s questionable if he is acting or this is natural.

Good choice with McAvoy. Have but of a crush but speaking transparently he's brilliant. He can play all sorts of roles and the other great thing about him, he doesn't mind playing second fiddle if the role is right, especially to a woman.

i don't watch alot of movies and i dont watch a movie on repeat but Split was the best movie I've watched after a long time and I've watched it over 3 times. his acting is insanely amazing! besides the good script, he was the main reason why I fell in love with this movie and also Hedwig!
