The importance of fatherhood is so overlooked in our society now. This is the results of great father's. They create leaders of men! Great job! Great football family, even better human beings
You can see Mr. Slater has raised his son right. Always remember seeing Jackie drop his hand in the dirt and wondering when the heck he would retire. He was an absolute anchor on that line for 20 years.
Slater is one of the most underrated NFL players. He's an amazing leader to his teammates and he's a wonderful person. I'm glad he's had such an awesome career.
one thing that people dont know much is that opposing team players also respect the heck out of 18. THey usually pray before or after the game together. He is THE class of player representation in the league.
You can see Mr. Slater has raised his son right. Always remember seeing Jackie drop his hand in the dirt and wondering when the heck he would retire. He was an absolute anchor on that line for 20 years.
I was fortunate enough to meet Matthew Slater in person at an event and he is every bit of the very classy, humble gentleman you are watching in this video. He was very warm and engaging toward me and my kids. We need more pro athletes like him.
I love how he and his dad are so comfortable giving each other hugs and saying I love you in front of everyone. It’s beautiful to see a dad that has invested in his family
Every time I try to think of a reason to hate the Pats... NFL does another mini doc on 1 of their players to get my respect. First it was Edelman, then Brady SB interview and now this. Gosh damn you NFL. Good Shit. #GoRaiders
He's one of the best special team players of all time, and a continuous pro bowler. But he wont be in the hall of fame. I'm sure he'll be in the Patriots hall of fame tho.
Happened to stumble upon this video a little over a week before Super Bowl 53, and who happens to be playing in the Super Bowl other than the Patriots and Rams. Truly special family. If the NFL has any sense, they'll dedicate at least an hour of television pre-Super Bowl doing a special showcase around these two. It'd be an amazing lead up to the game.
I come back to watch it every once in a while and I am sure I am not the only one. One of the best pieces on an NFL family. The way they look at each other toward the end when Matthew says he is trying to hold his own and Jackie says "you're doing a fine job" always gets me. And the very beginning of the piece when little Matthew talks about what he eats when he goes to games. He looks exactly like his son looks today. Matthew seems to have a special bond with everybody in the locker room but the bond he has with his former roommate, Jules, is another kind of special. I loved seeing it here and I love seeing it after this latest SB when Matthew asked him if he was the MVP. His reaction was priceless. I don't think he would have been happier had he himself been the MVP of that game. I was fortunate enough to attend the rally to send the guys off to Atlanta for SB53 and one of the highlights for me was when Matthew said that growing up he was a Rams fan but "come Sunday, I know nothing about no Rams!" 😂😂😂😂 Jackie raised a great son who carved his own path in this league and has become in the words of Jackie, the backbone of his team, and as a Pats fan, after each win, there is nothing I look forward to more than Matthew's speech to the team and the 'Aaaaaaahhh Yeah!!!"
Matthew Slater is a secret weapon of sorts for the Patriots. His special teams play is top notch but it's his veteran leadership in the locker room & on the field that is tops in the NFL. None better.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't watch that over an over again. Was so awesome to see slater is my far my favorite Patriot of all time if not my favorite player
Patriots are SO lucky to have had Matthew Slater for such a long time - what a good footballer and such a nice guy - his Dad isn't bad either with 20 years under his belt !! Another couple of Father/Son - showing the rest of the World how to ''bring up'' a Son - the world needs more men like these !! Happy to learn that Matthew has signed up for another year - be a sad Day when he leaves the Pats.
I love Katie Nolan, NFL films made a great decision hiring her as the host! She's a very good presenter and interviewer, and she's also very knowledgeable about football! It also doesn't hurt that she's a babe 😍
IKR!!??? LOL Popcorn and Hotdogs... almost as good as... (wait for it) Pork CHOPPPPSSS and apple sauce =} GO PATS GO!! www.pinterest.com/Christylmom/new-england-patriots/
As a patriots fan, Matt Slater is one of our unsung heroes. Humble and Hardworking. Blue collar work ethic. Hard to hold back the tears on this one. Faith, Family, Football.
Ive been a Patriot fan my entire life so winning is a thing but his talks after a win is one thing i look forward. Slater is one of my favorite people. Slate is such an amazing guy.
actually Jackie anchored that offensive line and blocked for eric Dickerson when he played for L.A. in the late 70's through the early eighties...and played for 20 seasons with very minor injuries..unlike todays players who miss 5-10 games for a pinkie finger injury...
he is such a underrated player, no one really knows how important and hard special teams is until it’s talked about. this dude is a baller. made me love being on special teams
Every minute, moment, part, & situation was special/spectacular to me because father/son both have a bonding. Also, Mr. Slater what a son you’ve raised
Thank you Matthew Slater. You always have a home in New England. Enjoy retirement, but this fanbase will welcome you in any role for our team. GUARANTEED.
wow...I grew up watching Jackie Slater on Sundays' (evenings',of course!)...Jackie Slater was the ultimate PROFESSIONAL when it came to being a blocker and teammate..didn't even realize he had a son playing for new England and has been in the league for over 10 years..winning (I think) 2 super bowls...remember..PROPER PREPARATION PREVENTS PISS POOR PERFORMANCE (THE ULTIMATE 6 P'S CONSULTATIONS)...THANK YOU slater family for making my Sundays' more complete...
Now an 8 time pro bowler and 3 time superbowl champion, plus one of the greatest team leaders I've ever seen. If he doesnt deserve a HOF slot, no one does
Jackie Slater was the best tackle in football for a long time... Seems like he was an awesome father as well... Good to see good things happen for good people...
I remember Matt as a Kid playing soccer with my younger brother. Always was a respectable and hard working young man. They had a female coach - Poppa Slater didn’t like other male coaches disrespecting that woman. Super family class act all the way. I am proud as hell to see Matt fly!
Amazing player and leader for the Patriots team for 16 years ! We and the Pats nation salutes you Matt Slater ! We hope you stay with the organization in some capacity
I hope that Matt Slater plays for years to come... But I cant wait to see his second act. What an inspiration the guy is. Would love to get a Slater Jersey someday, and wear it proud. Ahhhh YEAH!
Jackie Slater was a man of class and a great football player played the game the way it was supposed to and he’s a good husband a good father I love you Jackie
I remember Jackie in the early 90s because I was stunned that someone from the last Steelers super bowl game was STILL playing in the league. Been a fan ever since
one thing that people dont know much is that opposing team players also respect the heck out of 18. THey usually pray before or after the game together. He is THE class of player representation in the league.
@@phndr In the part of the video where he asks the team "how do we feel about our 4th consecutive AFC championship game?", I was thinking, 4 years later, you will be celebrating the 8th consecutive AFC championship appearance. Mindblowing! This team...
Mr. Slater... Us true fans know the value of the football player of Matthew and really appreciate him as a man and a leader of our team. I wish you and your family all the best. I hope Matthew retires as a Patriot and one day is in the Patriots Hall of Fame... With a couple more rings. 😁
My boy Matthew Slater is like one of those sophisticated yet funny guys that'll still whoop some ass
IceMan18 basically Charleston minus the kicking ass part
MeytalHead Who the hell is Charleston?

Yep
It’s sad the power of a strong father is not appropriated
One of the biggest atrocities in America had been the persistent removal of fathers and men from society and families.
Slater is one of the most underrated NFL players. He's an amazing leader to his teammates and he's a wonderful person. I'm glad he's had such an awesome career.
He calls a mean coin toss too.
Right? In overtime he called heads so hard.
Okana Adonis WOW this comment has aged well
He is a future hall famer. 7 pro bowls, 4 first team all pro, 1 second team all pro been to 5 superbowls and won 3.

Facts! Such a class act!
Anybody else who could listen to Matt do his post-game speeches all day? Love his voice and the lead up to "Aaaaaaahhh yeeaah"
he took over for Tedy and does nicely
Slater is an AMAZING special teams player. One of the best I've ever seen, HOF special teams
I love how he and his dad are so comfortable giving each other hugs and saying I love you in front of everyone. It’s beautiful to see a dad that has invested in his family
He will be a coach one day
I was thinking the same thing
He is learning from the best.
I believe that too!
He will be those great coaches one day, one day!
I couldn't agree more. A bit off topic, but I feel like he's one of those players that Coach really truly loves and is absolutely proud of.
Future special teams coordinator for the Patriots?

In two overtimes, Kansas City, and Atlanta..."We want the BALL~" He says that as if he already knows what the team is going to do with it.
What a classy family. Would love to get to know them. True Americans right there.

Well stated. She is football sauvy & obviously is most attractive.
