    This is from a Q&A I did on stream talking about some AIM fundamentals that pertain specifically to CS:GO. Of course a lot of viewers will watch many games and have different FPS backgrounds but I thought it would be good to go over what I feel are primary concepts for CS:GO specifically and explain what most people should be thinking about when entering aim duels. If you like this kind of content let me know, if not also let me know I figured even though its kind of raw from the stream some people can find some useful advice here as I know there are a lot of newer players in CS.

    launders! I am coming here from Flashpoint Astralis vs MouseSports. I knew it would be useless to write this in Twitch chat. I want to thank you for such great casting! It is such a relive and pleasure to listen to you compared to other casters! Especially I enjoy your concrete analysis of strategy, anti-strating and also pointing out important details that are not obvious for us. We can see you are actually engaged and sharp during the matches! Your vocab is also surprisingly rich! I watched this video about aiming earlier the day it is great as well! thank you!

    That whole segment about falling asleep when holding an angle versus the guy who is peeking is always 100% ready is the realest thing ever and every player is different in that regard. I cant personally hold a single angle more than 10 seconds at full alertness and when I notice that happening I try to do little jiggles with my movement and mouse to stay alert, maybe switch up the angle ever so slightly. But I dont remember to do that every single time and I end up adding needless reaction time when the guy finally comes to peek.

  • @dpk_27
    @dpk_27 3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    I think many people focus too much on just raw aim with only training aim via aim botz dm etc, you should do a bit of everything mechanics come over time naturally by playing same as game sense. Best way to get better is to not worry about specifics and just play the damn game boys :D (ofc its still useful to play stuff like dm but only dm nothing else aint it chief)

    • @therealb888
      @therealb888 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This isn't exactly true. Mechanics are probably the most important factor. Blindly grinding it out is inefficient. If you can make consistent routine with posture, grip, distance from monitor, etc you'll see improvement much faster. It's just like learning the game.

    • @MrDucktastic
      @MrDucktastic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@therealb888 I think he means purely building “raw aim” via DM and shooting bots.
      Whereas most players would benefit more from learning crosshair placement, how to peek, how to hold, when to us an off angle, when/why/how to throw your utility etc.
      There are things players can drill to help incorporate it into their game, but a lot of players only practice their aim alone.

    • @bassie756

      This is why I never do aim maps or dm as practice, just as warmup. For practice I play execute servers

    • @MrChris00078
      @MrChris00078 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need a balance, at the end of the day.
      If we divide up types of practice into different categories, and you could only focus on one, working on raw aim / movement would probably be the best one to work on, for the fastest gains, HOWEVER if you combine those with other forms of practice, you avoid the issue of diminishing returns. Always lean towards practicing what you're worst at (not what you're good at), keep the practice varied, and you'll improve way quicker than you ever thought you could.

    i always been saying good aim cs is less about hitting shots, its about not missing them, and what i mean by that is that you need to hit the shots in the situations you set yourself up to win, if you win a fight you shouldnt have, thats always a nice bonus, but many people try to compensate for bad positioning with playing aim maps for hours a day, when if your positioning is good, half the work is already done

    • @bassie756
      @bassie756 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I do agree aim is still the most imporant part of cs. Whether you like it or not, you're going to have a lot of 50/50 and disadvantaged duels in a game even if you play the other aspects of the game perfectly, and having good aim helps you win those fights.

      People wonder why NiKo is so good, obviously there are a lot of factors in his skill. That man can jiggle, swing, commit, wide peek, all ABSOLUTELY pixel perfectly, and imo even though there are other players with better aim on top he might even have the best keyboard control among the top players.

    i think xantares is the best example of crosshair placement and clearing angles, watching his demos you’ll realise he almost jitter peaks with tiny little micro steps to clear off angles or angles they won’t be prepared for you to check, and when getting to the common angles he will swing wider, i’m not saying to wide swing every common angles but mixing it up from wide swings, jiggle peak for info then crouch swing, shoulder peak. just mixing it up as much as you can. mm be prepared to be called a cheater once you master this

    Smoothing is also a very important mechanic of CS. Not every peek is a swing. learning how to smooth corners while walking and running is very important for winning duels in all kinds of situations. Too often players set themselves up to pre-aim positions, or jiggle peek. One thing that this kind of aiming does not account for is being peeked. The ability to move and hold your crosshair away from a wall (anticipating a swing from your opponent) will help win fights on bombsites, or against players who try to catch a timing on you: a player who is waiting to swing while you pre-aim some angle in that area. Smoothing also can be very valuable to clear off-angles mid round. The nuke hut example is a perfect demonstration of this. If you jiggle peek all those small angles to clear hut, you run the risk of having a poor pre-aim. You may also jiggle onto your opponents screen, allowing them to swing on you before you can react. Smoothing can help deal with these kinds of off-angles, and keep your crosshair in a position to fight a player who may swing out from a position.

And only in the last 500 did I focus on my own performance more: playing in a proper team, daily aim warmup routines, demo reviews, CS content consumption, looking at statistics, finding my own nades and most importantly - peaking correctly. Getting far distance and lot of speed to counter strafe narrowly. It's difficult to get your fundamentals correct during a game - but doing it for 40 hours a week does help.

It's a bit of an issue when the left eye is safer or it doesn't really matter because you're so close to the angle (think window on mirage). I am trying to be aware of where I'm moving and autopilot less to fix it.

    I also think aim is underrated by analysts and pros alike, they say this because their experience of aimers is people in pugs who peek everything solo, but when you think about players who actually carry games (who all do have great game sense but aim is the decider) k0nfig, s1mple zywoo xantares, niko blamef etc

    • @launders
      @launders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Aim is very Important but never sounds good on desks. While losses might come because of aim, good analysis will always try to figure out why outside of aim. Bad players see a lost duel and think one player was worse because of aim, a good player sees the same fight and try to say X should have been in a different position, if possible. Difference is both a good and bad observer can blame aim but only a good observer can find other reasons.
