    I think another good data point would be lap time after each technique as well

    So a good strategy would be to
    1. Use the first lap to warm up the tires and the breaks
    2. Use the second lap to win

    A couple years back there was a Karting Track a few miles from where I lived. They had karts that allowed for quick changing of fuel which meant they had sessions in the day where they did some 100 laps. We had pit stops to change fuel tanks. It was a great experience, unfortunately it closed down in 2017 after the land was bought for a football training ground.

    I'd say it is useful if you are going to be doing a proper race and need to be quick straight out of the box, but if you are running for best lap time of the session, I wouldn't bother. I always just went out and (assuming I had a reasonable understanding of the layout and the track management allows it), pushed hard straight out of the pits. Yes, it means I tended to slide around and run a ragged lap, but it got me straight into understanding the handling of the kart. Realistically, if you run your best lap early in the session, you aren't really maximizing your performance anyway, so there isn't really a rush to have perfect tire temp in the first couple minutes.

    Does anyone know what the optimum temperature for karting tires is? Just wondering

    • @nathanhillaert5582
      @nathanhillaert5582 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Around 65-70°C, above it the surface overheats and you loose grip because of it

    I'm late to this, but if you can get the camera back, it would be good to see on GT race cars running slicks, and also on a series running normal road tyres (Junior Saloons); those juniors really seem to work the tyres, but I've heard it makes no difference when running treaded road tyres - it would be good to get definitive evidence.

    Yes it works for high level karting. Don’t know about hire karts where people that don’t know what there doing are driving, they won’t know how to generate the core temperature properly or get them into the right window.

    Here's the thing though I don't think this experiment is necessarily complete:
    • Tell us how long (and show complexity) the track is, your 1 lap might be 3 laps of ours
    • How much hotter would the tyres on kart 1 have got if it just drove for a lap or 2 more? Maybe I wanna cut the manoeuvres if the tyres will heat up in a lap or two
    • Time differences - how much time can be expected to be lost from both intentional warming and from tyres being cold respectively? This will vary per track and conditions but can influence our choice
    Overall informative video just could've done a lot more. I may just tyre warm to be on the safe side and then compare how the kart _feels_

      Also I wonder if the gap is that big for an indoor track, like is it good to warm up2 out of 10 minutes for exemple

    LOL mate they're not heating up tires by moving side to side. They are removing the pick up. They heat up tires by braking. Soz kids
