Actually, dropping those lower sustains gave him more points than playing it the intended way. That's called the extended sustain glitch. That consists on playing early the lower sustained notes and let them go at the highest sustained note. You get rewarded with extra points at the end of the chord as a compensation of dropping those. Actually, he has a video explaining how that glitch works.
