Houston had good success with the short passes against OU. Hopefully we get more of that from the offense. It helps the OL as well not having to block long.
I wondered last year if Holgorsen gave Donovan strict orders not to run because he passed up a bunch of wide open 10 yard runs. It wasn’t until the UT game I saw him pull it down and run for about fifteen yards. I was shocked at how fast he was. Donovan is good enough to win with this year. I am expecting Fritz and the OC to figure it out sooner than later. GO COOGS!!!
Wish I could agree with you on Donovan. Really was rooting for him and hoping for the best. Seems like a really good person. He has a potentially pro arm... but not good, much less great, instincts and mobility. Too many poor decisions every game. Meanwhile, he is no runner. Nor does he know when to run. Just in the OU game there were several plays where the first down would have been there if he had run, and a true dual-threat would have, but he instead chose not to. He is almost helpless against a strong rush. He can lumber through a big hole or wide open green, but he has no real quickness, elusiveness or burst. And he goes down ridiculously easy for a bigger QB. A real dual-threat QB doesn't continually have a negative rushing stat. And then there are the delay of game and intentional grounding penalties. Alas, I don't think Donovan Smith goes down as one of the great Houston Cougar QBs. Sure would like to see what a healthy Zeon could do.
It also invites route jumping by the defenders, which if taken advantage of properly can be used to pump fake by Donovan and a double move by the receivers. It's a chess match. Donovan is a business man playing football. What we need is a Football player that takes care of business.
The "Run n Shoot was a quick pass offense until everyone caught on to it. You have to have the ability from time to time to stretch the field with the vertical pass game. And what has happened with the tight ends?
I’m a little annoyed how they tend to sometimes go away from what works. Run game against UNLV and this quick pass strat against Oklahoma. I just hope they have a balanced plan and are willing to change it up.
Thanks for your podcast. Go Coogs! I am not to enamored with you and what you hope Donovan is going to do. He has not ran here like he did in the past. He did not do it much last year and then he go hurt. I do not see everything you talked about occurring any time soon. Parker, he takes long to make decisions and I am not optimistic that the old Donovan will come back. Now, he has room to surprise me, however, he is not accurate as i would like him to be, in the past or now. His passes has wobbled bad and just doesn't look like the other dual quarterbacks that we've had. So, I'll be watching though I am not really impressed with Donovan. I wish him the best through the year. He's no Tune, Ward or King, sigh... I digress...

They need to get those big TEs more involved.
It won’t hurt to stretch the defense deep also.

It’s amazing that we ever got away from this effective strategy. Keenum made a living at this and it setup the deep ball. Let’s Go Coogs!
Very impressed at the improvement of the team. Obviously it's going to take time to rebuild but there is hope.

Cheetos don’t even call themselves chips on the bag. It says Cheese Flavored Snack.
I loved Sneed’s game this weekend.

Would you feel better about the UNLV loss if UNLV beats the Jayhawks this Friday?
And also fun fact: Nico Fertitta is the safeties coach for UNLV
Fertittas have lots of UNLV ties
And I think UNLV is good- their big test will be Boise tbh… they beat Boise, they may be a playoff team
He's not dual threat, and he's definitely not elusive. His running skills are on tape delay. 🤢🤢🤢🤢
Let’s gets some conference wins. Get to a bowl game….
