@@CalvinHikes I've been looking for a way to message you guys, I just found your channel and what you guys do is so interesting, exciting, and terrifying. How do you find information on the caves you explore? I've been trying to Google caves near me, not so I can go in them, but I'd like to know about them. I lived right next to a cave in Lewisburg TN that I would go in as a teen and it's kind of a small park and I just want to know more about it. I once went on a field trip somewhere nearby and went into a cave that opened into a huge dome and the land owners had found a bunch of artifacts from ancient Indian tribes. I can't find any information about these locations even though I've been to them and I would just like to know more about the history. If you have an info on how I can look into these places and caves in general that would be amazing. I have no idea how you have all this info on when certain caves were found and what not.

I've been caving once - only once. Looking back, going with experienced cavers, I felt like it was way more advanced than a rookie could tackle. I was poorly equipped, and way out of shape, I have never been THAT close to a full on panic. One spot I had to empty the air from my lungs to be able to squeeze through one spot. Another obstacle was a very long belly crawl with minimal clearance. Not being able to turn my head as I was crawling on my belly was a new and frightening sensation. I will say, sitting in an enormous room, in complete silence and darkness, was some of the most peaceful moments I've experienced. There is no time in a cave. No awareness of sun up or sun down. I think you need to be kind of a nut job to be a caver - and I mean that in the most positive and respectful way.
    Hats off to you both!

But, i think Calvin said something in this video which gave me pause for thought and it was effectively that the cave tests the limit of human endurance, claustrophobia etc...
It's like the old one about climbing a mountain, and the answer being "because it's there, dear boy".
There's a kind of pioneering spirit in these videos, a desire to push into places very few, if any people, have ever been.
Then, facing those fears, that panic, and overcoming it or learning to control it, and facing it down, gives you a sense of pride and imbues strength and discipline.

Well done with the diagrams/animations along with the commentary, a lot of folks even watching this will be caught up in the emotions that come with even thinking of being wedged inside a narrow passage so appropriately named! Having been through a passage called the “birth canal” in Arkansas, I understand that vertical spacing shortages require a totally different set of maneuvers than horizontal spacing shortages. Having both in that type of passage is a new level of difficulty! I’ve never been in that challenging of passage, but seeing you guys reap the benefits of testing yourselves (safely!) is fun to watch. Stay safe and have fun.

It really is quite amazing how much anxiety this can bring on as just a remote viewer...
I find their same strategy applies. Deep breaths, calm thoughts, power through it.
And it got much easier by the end.

Person will, people won't. Caves are protected by keeping them private. Maybe one in a thousand slips through the cracks and becomes a publicly known cave.

that way he went headfirst down a turn at 5:17 is exactly how John Jones died at Nutty Putty. It was too tight and he had to back out but he couldn't and the rescue couldn't get him to either because your knees bend the wrong way. Unless you went headfirst face up.

@@CalvinHikes Yes I imagine you'd get a sense of whether it's going to be doable at that point, like how when Jacob got to that end part how he could see it petered away further down. Having the judgment of when to realize must be very important. Great video and thank you for replying!
