- Dutch fans gathered in Westerpark in Amsterdam to watch their side in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England on Wednesday (10th July).
There was a party atmosphere right from the start - the early goal from Xavi Simons adding to this.
But a Harry Kane equaliser followed by the late Ollie Watkins winner saw England through 2-1 - and left the disappointed Dutch trying to make the best of the rest of their evening.

Dutch is one of the closest languages to English. We have common ancestry. As you say though football expresses itself in the emotion written over people's faces, the synchronised roar when the ball hits the back of the net or palms touching foreheads when its against our own team.
The Dutch are just as jinxed as us. Just like us, they have only won 1 trophy in their entire history. We both got KO to Portugal at euro 2004 and The WC in 2006.

I saw an article yesterday that apparently the dutch fans were being violent towards the English, then I saw livestreams of Dutch and English fans, talking together, laughing together, drinking together, dancing together and just having a good time. Never a penalty. Went to watch NL beat Ireland at Anfield in '95. Actually went to watch Ireland beat NL but that didn’t happen! Still, great occasion before, during and after the match thanks to wonderful Dutch supporters.

I think not having Frankie De Jong available became a major blow as the Dutch teams’s midfield creative spark and being able to win the ball back and create spaces. Without him, I think the Dutch team reaching the semis was a good end result for this tournament.
I have a lot of dutch friends who sent congratulations and will be cheering for England on Sunday...... Now that is great friendship and sportsmanship.

I thought the Dutch team would give us a big hammering. They got off to an amazing start with a fantastic screamer of a gold. I was very nervous at that point lol! I was in Berlin recently just before the Holland Vs Austria game. The Dutch fans lit Berlin up with their fun and laughter around the city. Zero trouble just great fans and a pleasure to observe.

Love the dutch, our fans and theirs are one in the same, same energy by far the 2 best lots of fans in the world. It was a good game and although we had the best first 65, dutch started coming on strong and it was looking worrying for us going into extra time but the subs changed the game. Absolutely devastating for them, but absolutely exhilarating for us. This is football.
Commiserations to all Dutch fans, we English understand the frustration and heartbreak of losing semi-finals, trust us.

Brit here I had my doubts about the penalty but you take the decisions rough and smooth and on the night it went our way, Netherlands were brilliant opponents and fans were well meaning and should be proud.

Fantastic fans and very gracious in defeat. Netherlands was always my second team in my youth, mostly because I loved watching the fans, but it was also the golden era of Dutch football with some of the best players of all time dazzling us with their skills. I'm sure that it would be an amazing experience to be over there with them hosting a tournament. UEFA/FIFA/Netherlands, make it happen.

I’ve always rooted for the Dutch team in the World Cup when they’ve still been in it after our home teams been knocked out. They have produced some legends over the years, and I’m going back as far as Cruyff, Van Basten, Gullit etc.
I'm English and was relieved and delighted we scraped home. Congratulations to those great Dutch fans. No complaints or mention of that soft penalty. We were just so lucky.
