is there any DAW that not require me to leave them my E mail adress ....thats from where troubles come into computer me no use any E mail and have no problem since ...2-3 years ...i dont want myself on any mans list ...is it free DAW i dont think so ...they can colect data from your spy program anytime you is online? ...and i dont want anyone to have acces to stuff i do and record before me sell it put it out
Thanks for the video! And for anyone questioning if Waveform is worth it, I couldn't recommend it enough! A few features built into other DAW's might not be there right off the bat, but it has been seldom I can't find a free plugin to add in what I'm looking for. Years ago I used to use Audacity to record demos for my songs, I wanted a better DAW but couldn't find a good one for free. One day I found Waveform and saw that it was free and have never looked back since. At this point I haven't spent a single penny on anything from the program and have used only free VST's, and I'm still shocked to this day just how good my songs sound. With Waveform you are literally getting professional level sound because of the fact you can use any plugin, and as long as your external equipment is good, or you find the right VST instruments, you'll sound amazing! At this point I could buy a better DAW, but Waveform honestly has been good enough I haven't bothered too. If you aren't too serious in your music and do it from your bedroom, this IS the best program you could possibly ask for.
Thank you. I've been using Reaper for ages and still love it, but just recently feel it really needs a makeover, so I tried Waveform latest, and I love it, it really is well thought out and quite powerful for a free version. I'm loving the GUI workflow over Reaper so far. I've put it through it's paces, and it has a ton of great features, and intuative feel. Thanks again for inspiring me to try this.
One thing I like about the micro drum sampler from waveform is that it has a sensitivity option depending of where you hit the pads, and that the plugin window can float in front of other software window like google without maximizing the entire daw window. I don't know how to use this in a practical way but it is interesting.
Glad you’re enjoying Waveform. It’s such a powerful program and amazing that they give it for free. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Keep creating! 👊👍
Pretty sick! I learned about Waveform Free today in one of your videos and just downloaded it. Looks like it has everything I need to get productive quickly and should get me further than e. G. GarageBand. But it's intuitive like GarageBand at the same time, unlike Reaper, which has a considerably steeper learning curve. But Waveform still has many of the great features that I found in Reaper, like track folders with shared effects, a flexible bus system or customizable shortcuts. I will start messing with both Waveform and Reaper in the next couple of days/weeks. Both are way more promising than GarageBand or the crippled versions of Ableton Live Lite and Performer Lite that I got with my audio interface. And both will work with Linux if I ever decide to switch.
I'm looking to switch from LMMS to Waveform and so far it looks amazing. Had lots of trouble with LMMS, it was slow and Audio editing wasnt possible. Loading and Importing was slow too. Took a first quick look at the programm and now watched your video. I think i might do a good choice switching to Waveform. Thanks for explaining.
Where did you end up? Waveform or LMMS? Or something else? I know there are DAWs like Ardour, REAPER, Studio One, Renoise, Bitwig. I myself am just getting started, so I can't decide yet what DAW I should stick with. I am on Linux, at the moment I am using LMMS, I have Ableton Live Lite license on my Windows laptop, but I dislike Windows and not sure if I should spend my time using Ableton Live Lite, it's kind of limited DAW (limited tracks) compared to Waveform. And for starting out I just need something free and maybe even open source. I know Ardour is powerful, but haven't tried it yet. Trying MuSE now.
@@Mr-Sinister Thanks for the comment. I switched to Linux myself (Kubuntu). LMMS runs waaay better on Linux compared to windows (not a big surprise tbh, it's in the name). Waveform has nice features that LMMS doesnt have. However, LMMS has good Track automation what i really appreciate. Loading times are better on Linux too so i'm keeping LMMS. Downloading additional instruments/modules are a must imo. Depending on how much work you want to put into tracks, you can consider using not just one DAW. I only tried these two DAWs and tried going double but it can get tricky if you got multiple stems. LMMS is easier to learn and handle, waveform is more powerful with better modules imo.
Waveform 12 Free is simply amazing to work with! I made an Axel F remake using this DAW and only free VST. Just uploaded it as the first video on my channel.
dude that Downward Spiral LP is awesome, btw thanks for the video. I'm really wanting to maek stuff off my computer since I've been doing it off my phone.
@@dsjunges I like it, so much so I upgraded to Pro when Tracktion had a promotion to add features that are in Cakewalk, and some that are not. Once I got used to the look and feel the workflow is really intuitive. I still use Cakewalk sometimes because I have set up some templates and like the Pro-Channel.
@@PGvideoinc I just started making music in Cakewalk, but heard about them making a paid version and not updating the free one anymore. Wouldn't the free one start performing worse over time if its not being looked after anymore? So I was thinking of moving to Tracktion. So I'm wondering how to move the songs I have in Cakewalk into Tracktion. Do you know? Any automation and effects would be gone when moving them, right? Thats what I heard. So I'd want to switch so I can start adding those things. Would it remember the instrument you chose for each track? I have plugins I downloaded that have a collection of their own instruments. I'm not using any instruments from Cakewalk. It'd be annoying if it couldn't copy the plugin and the instrument I set each track to from the plugin. So basically, what will be copied when moving a song into another daw and what won't be copied? What would be lost? If I used an effect on a track that wasn't from Cakewalk and was downloaded, would it be able to remember that effect is on that track or no? I'm worried about it only copying the midi itself and nothing else. Thanks for your time.
@@yosachaiko9969 1 - Not sure about the free Cakewalk degrading, probably not 2 - Yes, you can export from Cakewalk and import to Tracktion. You can import the raw recording wav files or the the processed ones (the tracks with the sound of the plugins on). However the processed ones will not import the plugin settings only the effects that the plugin resulted in in Cakewalk - if that makes sense. I think the automation gets imported as well. 3 - I use Tracktion Waveform now for new recordings, it really suits my workflow and I have bought two of the expansion packs to unlock further features. I have imported some of my songs from Cakewalk and Reaper into Tracktion, but actually preferred to go back to the original DAWs to finish them off.
I am considering to get started in music composition. I was considering Reaper, and willing to pay for it. Reaper has the reputation of being very powerful and customisable. My question is, for a complete beginner, is Tracktion Waveform easier to get in to, and how difficult would the transition be if I wanted to "graduate" later on to Reaper?
All programs will have a similar learning curve as they pretty much all do the same things. It’s just the workflow, included plugins, and GUI that are the big difference. If Reaper is where you want to be, then start with Reaper. If you learn on one you will get some familiarity with how things are done on most programs but it makes sense to just learn in the DAW that you intend to use that way you don’t have to learn a second program. The ideal situation is where you get to a point that you no longer have to wonder how to do things and then you can just focus on the music.
@@AudioTechTV Thanks for your response. It'll be Reaper then. From your video I had the impression that the default GUI of Tracktion is easier to grasp, but I understand this is not the main issue in starting to use any DAW. Indeed, I appreciate that the challenges having to do with the music itself are much deeper and much more demanding than getting to grips wiht a DAW
@klaasbil8459 personally I enjoy the GUI and workflow of Waveform a lot more. I do find that it’s easier/quicker to do things in Waveform. I actually moved from Reaper to Waveform because I enjoy it a lot more. It’s all about preference. If your prefer Reaper over everything else then use that. Don’t worry about what others tell you is “the best” because “the best” is whatever works best for you.
@@AudioTechTV Now I am confused again. I have no experience in Reaper, but I concluded from viewing TH-cam vids that it is highly praised and very capable. Therefore I planned to start using Reaper. I had not heard of Waveform Tracktion until I saw your video recently. It's GUI looked so simple and intuitive, that I thought it might be better suited for beginners, hence my initial comment. I have worked with Cubase a VERY long time ago (more than 30 years ago, on an Atari), and I noticed that the technicalities of using the program were hampering my ability to think creatively and musically. The program stood in the way of the music, so to speak. So while I love to have a lot of options, and potential for growth when I get more proficient, I think that ease of use is especially important for me.
@klaasbil8459 any program you choose now, will be a million times easier and more intuitive than the early Cubase DAW. Lol. What you’re describing about the workflow and wanting to just focus on music, not the interface and program is exactly what everyone wants. Because you are new or re-entering with more options, I would recommend trying a few programs to see what really speaks to you. Every program is going to have its set of “fan boys/girls” that think it’s the best program. It doesn’t mean that it’s the best for you but it could be. Give a few a try so that way you can get hands on and make a decision based on your own opinion. So try Reaper, try Waveform, try Pro Tools Intro (it’s free). Maybe try Luna or some other programs too. See what is going to allow you to just focus on music as efficiently as possible.
2:52 The Rompler instrument doesn't have those presets in Waveform 12 Free. It only has the 808s and 909s. It would be great if they were included though.
I thought it was supposed to be the same. I know the micro drum sampler only has the 808 and 909 so it doesn’t make sense that the Rompler would have the exact same thing. Thank you for letting me know.
Hi, Zane. Congratz for your nice videos. I have a question about the midi editor of Waveform, maybe you can help me. Is there an option to listen the notes while changing the velocity?
The velocity would be from the initial bit of the note. So if a note has already been hit and you change the velocity it wouldn’t change the sound until it’s hit again. If you have a midi keyboard you could just keep hitting the note while changing the velocity. If you don’t have a midi keyboard you could create a midi clip with notes being hit fairly close together and then loop that section and continue playing it while adjusting the velocity.
Make sure the track isn’t muted. Make sure the master volume isn’t muted, try the audio on a different track. Make sure the volume fader isn’t turned all the way down on the track that your audio is on. Make sure you don’t have an instrument plugin on the track with the audio clip. Make sure an effect on the audio track isn’t affecting the output. Try a different audio clip just to make sure it’s not something to do with the clip that you’re testing.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm considering a few different DAWs. In your opinion, would WaveForm or Reaper be a better choice for a person just starting? I've researched quite a few Reaper tutorials after deciding against Cakewalk by BandLab (since it's discontinued). There are plenty of free plugings, so included sounds isn't an issue, as far as I can tell. I knew of Cakewalk, and found WaveForm through researching interfaces. I ended up going with an Onyx Producer 2.2 since it's affiliated with Mackie, and top console from back when I was playing. Anyway, without going on longer, any info will be appreciated. I've subscribed, and thanks again.
Both programs are great. I prefer the Waveform workflow for my creative style but that doesn’t mean it’s better, it’s just my personal preference. Reaper is excellent, I used it for a few years and enjoyed it when I was using it. I would recommend giving both a try and see which one you like best. You might also want to have a look at Luna and Mixcraft. I think both of those programs have streamlined things and have tried to make it easier for beginners to get started. Luna is free, Mixcraft isn’t but it’s not overly expensive either.
Still using 12 free (haven't yet updated to 12.5). Having a lot of trouble with playback when trying to use Nectar Elements after processing through it. My computer is old. It seems nothing happens when I click on the CPU meter in Waveform. Is that only an option in the paid version, to see the CPU meter details?
I never tried it, I am Pro with CUBASE12PRO, but without limitations of tracks, this is my go to suggestion, when some1 asks for a free DAW, with samples, plugins ect-
I bought Waveform 11, and was realy exited for Waveform 12. When checking for price for the uppdate.. It was just $20 under full Price!?! So I'm leaving Waveform and going for Reaper. Only $60 and you get the version after for free.
I always get a bit nervous about changing to a newer or upgraded version of something (and spend the first month whinging how the old version was better...). Would you say Waveform 12 is better than WF11 overall?
They are both very similar so I don’t think you would be lost trying to figure things out. The new audio engine is very nice and the browser system makes working with Waveform even faster. I think WF12 is better. But if you are comfortable with 11 then stick with it. There’s no need to upgrade every time a newer version comes out. Use whatever you’re comfortable with. The good thing is that WF12 doesn’t overwrite WF11 so you can try it out and see if you like it and if you don’t, then you can continue to use the older version. Thank you for continuing to watch. I still need to check out your latest songs. I’ll do that soon (summer has been very busy for me). Keep creating! 👊👍
Thanks for the presentation, really nice & clear. Please, can you tell if it's possible to work with a video file? Can I import the image video for synchronizing image & audio?
Good video. Thanks. The following question is directed to the channel or anybody on this channel who may have the answers. As far as looping goes I can't seem to find any videos that cover the ability to change the loop as it's playing e.g. moving the beginning and/or ending loop points as the loop is playing so it's shortened or lengthened on the next cycle. Does Waveform free or paid have that option? Also does Waveform have an automated zero crossing point finding and marking feature. I have used other music software that will make a series of slices of a clip at points it thinks might be useful sample chunks. Thanks in advance for your attention to this.
Great video. I had PT11 and I guess my mac from 2012 could no longer keep running so now I seek a new DAW. Does Tracktion allow wav files? I use alot of loops already created and i saw mostly virtual instruments was used here. Thanks
Hi, I purchased the Midi Producer Expansion for Waveform Free. They show that Substractive is including with this Expansion but I don't see it anywhere. Waveform instruments is not listed Subtractive. Any help with this? I really start loving Waveform. Thanks
hey i have one question how play many tracks instruments together?Example in one track is kontakt in other track is Labs and how i can play together ?In Reaper and Cakewalk is no problem !!I know you can play many instruments in one track but not seperatly)))Thanks
how do i change the piano sound of stepclips? it just randomly turns on and off, every time i start the program and do smth with stepclips its either the piano sound with its correct notes or normal sounds of what it supposed to be
The step clips are just midi info so they don’t carry sound. The way they can generate sounds is by adding an instrument plugin onto the track that has the step clips on it. So just add an instrument plugin and make sure it’s the first plugin in the chain (the furthest thing to the left in the plugin section). If you’re using Waveform Free then you can easily add the 4Osc instrument that’s included. Or if you want drums then you can add the micro drum sampler, you’ll need to choose one of the kits after adding the micro drum sampler.
I really liked the previous Waveform but it just didn't get the job done. After importing MIDI and tweaking my VSTs the final export was distorted somehow, I tried to record with a mic and the whole clip just disappeared when I hit the stop button. I'll give this one a shot 'cause I really like the way the DAW looks and works 😭😭😭
I'm new to making music and started in Cakewalk, but they're going to stop updating the free version. So I thought I should switch to another daw. I only have midi and nothing recorded. What should I be careful about when moving a song into another daw? What is this distorted thing about? Why did the clip you recorded just delete itself after stopping the recording?
@@yosachaiko9969 I never figured it out, but it's possible it was my fault with the way I set things up. Give it a try, start small and don't attempt to make a whole song with 7 different tracks from day one like I did. The most trouble I've had with MIDI is drums being mapped out differently on various softwares, so try to do a test with something simple beforehand. Other than that, I believe it's possible to learn a lot by watching tutorials and experimenting, the difficult part is putting up with the frustration and how time consuming it can be sometimes. Hope it helps!!
Yes you can do side chaining in Waveform Free and sends and busses are unlimited. With Waveform you can turn any track into a bus and you can put sends and returns anywhere. The mixer is modular.
On windows it saves in a folder in your Documents folder. You can change where it saves. Check out this video where I go over that th-cam.com/video/cGHbMYwQWKg/w-d-xo.html
I am looking to switch to WF12 and starting with free, though I can easily see picking up the Producer bundle or Pro. Zane, besides you and Tracktion Software, are there any other YT creators I should be following?
Hey Zane, I’m a Mac/Logic guy but tried Waveform Free 11 and just upgraded to v12. I like it, but I’m confused by how few TH-cam reviews and tutorials exist. You show up repeatedly, by why haven’t others jumped on the bandwagon? Why are you the main advocate? Are you somehow connected to Traction software?
I think there are a lot of music channels that stick to the popular software like FL Studio, Ableton Live, and Pro Tools. Those topics get thousands and thousands of searches per day. Tracktion Waveform still feels like the new guy but they’ve been around for quite a while. I did a review of Tracktion T7 around the time I first started my channel and noticed that it got a lot of views and then I noticed there wasn’t a lot of info out there for it so I decided to dig in and create tutorials and follow the software closely. I also really started to like it and started to use it as my main DAW. I am not really connected with them. They have a link to my videos on their website and they say I’m a Tracktion Guru. But other then that I’m not connected with the company at all. I’m just a guy that liked their product and decided to make videos on it. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Yes. You’ll be able to open your WF11 projects in WF12 and they’ll be the same. If you’re very concerned with that, WF12 doesn’t overwrite 11 so you can have both versions installed if you want. But I haven’t had any issues with older projects opening in 12. I think if you save them in the newer version you won’t be able to open them in the older program anymore though.
Waveform free is my first DAW, I’ve found it really easy to use and enjoy it a lot BUT oh my word is it unpredictable and buggy!! It does some really strange things when recording, sometimes it just doesn’t record what you’ve just played! Really frustrating, other times I just have to turn it off because it randomly decides to miss out the first 2 bars of everything I record and then I’ll turn it on 2 days later and it’s perfectly normal again. It’s a shame because otherwise it’s great, is this something that only happens with the free version?
I had an issue like that a long time ago it was with an early release of one of the new versions (maybe 11) and the bug was quickly fixed in an update. I haven’t experienced that since. Make sure it’s up to date and be sure to submit the issue to them. They may not reply quickly but it doesn’t mean that they won’t work on it.
You don’t need one to use the software but if you’re going to be recording audio into it then you may want to get one for better quality recordings with lower latency.
Hello , fist of all thanks for the content. Maybe you can help me a bit here , is there some way to save the samples in the project itself of kick drums etc, instead of wav in other formats? in aiff or mp3?
I’m not sure if this will help. There's a bunch of buttons in the lower left corner, as long as you haven't hidden them. If you have hidden them, there's a line with an up arrow in the lower left corner; if you click that, the buttons reappear. One of them says Save on it, then you can save your edit. It's Edits rather than projects that you save. A project might have several edits in it. Any that have changed would need saving. The current manual doesn't mention having to do that; and I can't find the setting; so presumably it could now be built-in (I think because MP3 is old enough that any patent is now expired). Silly question - top of the dialog box there's a little dropdown arrow beside format - did you click that to select .MP3 ?
Yes it will recognize the plugins that came with Waveform 11 Pro. But features like the chord track, and other integrated features that only work in pro will likely not be available to you. If you download and install Waveform 12 free, it does not overwrite Waveform 11 so you’ll still be able to use it if you end up not liking Waveform 12 free. However any projects that you create or save in the newer version may not open in the older version. So if you work on existing projects in waveform 12 maybe create a duplicate of it first.
If it’s a sample that you’ve downloaded, you can drag and drop it onto whatever track you want. You can either use the built in browser to find your sample folders or just drag and drop from the desktop.
If you haven’t updated to the latest version of waveform 12 I suggest doing that. Also waveform typically doesn’t crash on its own, it’s usually caused by a plugin or plugins. If it’s crashing due to a plugin that you’re using, don’t use that plugin in your projects. Also you can enable plugin sandboxing so it won’t crash the program completely.
Zane: I have attempted to download Waveform 12 Free, and it doesn't look like it is free anymore. The software I installed appears to want me to enter a license or run a 30- day demo version. Does Waveform 12 Free still exist? If so, how do you get it?
Yes Waveform 12 Free still exists. You have to make sure you download the free version and not the demo of the pro version. Then use the login info that you used to register on Tracktion’s website.
I've had the same issue, and I know, for sure, that I had downloaded the free version. Maybe it is a bug. Personally, I've had troubles even signing into my account, at times, as it comes up with 'your account may have been disabled temporarily;.
Update: You just need to make sure that you're logged in, and hopefully, the pop-up at the top for a paid licence disappears and you can save your projects.
I wonder if anyone has tried interfacing an Arturia Minilab/Keylab to this DAW. I've been using Ableton Live Lite which came bundled with mine, and I love it, it has everything I need, except for unlimited tracks and busses, which is really starting to annoy me. I don't really feel that $400 just to get unlimited tracks is worth it, so I'm looking for alternatives. A friend recommended Reaper but it just looks unnecessarily cluttered and messy, especially that I'm already used to Ableton's neat interface. Plus, it reminds me of FL Studio, and I don't wanna go back to that. I don't work with electronic music, so I don't really need all of those features, and I mostly have my own third-party plug-ins. I record folk music with real instruments, and I do occasionally use virtual instruments, I use amp sims when I'm plugging my electric directly, but not extensively or to any degree that would require me to have like 6,000 packs of digital clutter. I have more than enough with Analog Lab and Guitar Rig. This all seems intriguing, I like how it looks, but I'm just wondering if it will all adapt well with my Minilab and Analog Lab, as it is a relatively new program; and I love Arturia's products, so I'm planning to get more in the future. My workflow on Ableton paired with my controller is such a breeze at this point, which is why I've been reluctant to try out other programs. I considered switching to Garageband, because after all, the best stuff...are the ones you already have. But it appears I would have to do a lot of tinkering to get my plug-ins to work with it or for my controller to work with it the way I want to...if it's even possible. But I am currently looking for alternatives for all the programs I am using, because the cost just keeps adding each year. I guess I'm just a bit jaded with all these new technologies and digital...stuff. Especially on how companies bait you to keep paying every time to unlock individual features. And if you pay for the whole package, you get loads of stuff you'll never use, which you'll be forced to try to use so that you won't feel as bad for spending a lot of money. I've relied on Adobe programs for 20 years but this new subscription-based fad has just gone too far. It all only gets in the way of actually creating. So, I don't want to keep relying on Audition too and always having that fallback. I want to just have one program for each type of work. Can anyone share insights on this program, in terms of hardware mapping? What are the MIDI controllers you've used with it? Functionally, is the free version really enough for mixing and mastering? How is it with plug-in compatibility? Any bugs or issues? Would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you! M. Jack
Hi Zane. I bought Waveform 11 Pro just before 12 was released for my mac OS 10.11.6. Whenever I try to load a third party plugin AU or VST, it reboots my Mac even if that plugin is Collective. I've downloaded Waveform 12 free and this problem isn't present in Waveform 12. So now I'm left with a paid for version of Waveform that doesn't work as expected and a free version that is missing all the features and plugins that I've paid for. I've contacted Tracktion support but haven't received a reply is there anything you can do to help please.
Did you try reinstalling the pro version to see if that works? Also make sure it’s completed updated. I haven’t come across this issue so I don’t know what it might be. Hopefully Tracktion gets back to you about this. I know they have a small team so it may take time.
@@AudioTechTV Thanks for replying. I've been using sequencers and DAW's since the Atari and Amiga days, so kind of know my way around computers and software. Unfortunately Waveform 11 wasn't fit for purpose and the issue was resolved with Waveform 12. It remains to be seen if the Traction team are willing to hold their hands up and admit Waveform 11 wasn't fit for purpose on a Mac running 10.11.6 and allow me to use one of the upgrade licenses.
If you registered for waveform free on their website then you should be able to log in from within Waveform and turn it into Waveform Free, taking away that annoying voice. Sometimes you have to login then close the program and open it back up.
Check to see how much gain your mic requires. Then check to see if your audio interface can provide that much gain. If the audio interface cannot provide enough gain for your mic and you want to stick with that mic you can look for a lab external preamp that has enough gain or get an inline preamp that can add additional clean gain. Or look for a mic that doesn’t require more gain then your audio interface can put out. Condenser mics typically don’t require as much gain as dynamic microphones.
Bro, this is bullshit. Why does every music program has to be so god damn complicated? Can't there be something to just hop in where you can play around? Like seriously, i never made music, but for every god damn software you need a phd. It's so annoying. These Programs are never intuitive to someone who never worked with them. Even after watching videos i have no clue of how to even get started with anything.
Making music isn’t easy and isn’t something that you just decide “I’m going to make music today” and then you’re automatically a pro because a piece of software does it all for you. It takes time to learn software. If you don’t have time to invest into a piece of software or the interest to learn it then maybe music making isn’t for you. You can try Magix music maker. It has some easy to use drag and drop features and if you get the premium version it has a song maker that literally does everything for you. Another option would be GarageBand on an iPad or iPhone. It’s very easy to start poking around and creating sounds.
@@AudioTechTV Thank you very much for your answer. I think i am just very frustrated, because i don't understand anything that's going on. Maybe i try magix or garageband first.. Thank you for the recommendations! If i'm still staying salty, you are right. This hobby might be not for me.
Im not too sure but I think that Waveform Free doesn’t really have the number versions. It’s just Waveform Free and then they update it whenever. It usually doesn’t get upgraded as soon as the new version comes out. Waveform 13 is apparently coming out tomorrow. So maybe they will update Waveform Free tomorrow too. I don’t have any close ties to Waveform so I don’t know any of the upgrade and update stuff. I think they have a forum on KVR where you can ask questions and hopefully get answers.
@@AudioTechTV im not sure if i did, i do have waveform 11 free on my laptop but when i go to their website and click on the download waveform free, it doesn't show the link for 12 only 11

Yes!! Thankyou Zane! Was waiting for your vid since the moment Waveform 12 Free was released! 😊
Thank you for continuing to check out my channel. I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed the video. Keep creating! 👊👍
One thing I like about the micro drum sampler from waveform is that it has a sensitivity option depending of where you hit the pads, and that the plugin window can float in front of other software window like google without maximizing the entire daw window. I don't know how to use this in a practical way but it is interesting.
Waveform Pro user for years, the FREE edition does have a lot and compares very well to alternatives.
Man. I used this to create my first song, and it worked out pretty well! you already know I subbed
Wow this is a real gem for those wanting to get started, and it's FREE!
Thanks man, everything seemed daunting at first. This helps alot
I'll have to revisit this software. Thanks for the walkthrough :)
I've watched many of your videos Zane in my quest to decide which should be my main DAW - I think Waveform 12 may tip the balance away from Cakewalk!
Hi there mate. I am also producing music on Cakewalk and I do enjoy the sound quality. What are your thoughts on Waveform Free so far?
@@yosachaiko9969
1 - Not sure about the free Cakewalk degrading, probably not
2 - Yes, you can export from Cakewalk and import to Tracktion.
Hey. When I add Rompler and go to Presets, I only have 808,909 and Metronome. How do I get all those extra things that you have?
I have the same issue, it's probably a Waveform Pro feature only D:
I was wondering if by I wasn’t getting updates anymore for 11. Damn, I guess I need to download 12 now. Good stuff.
Nice ! Thanks for the examples. Privacy policy for Traction is good and clear too.
My Rompler only includes the drums and metronome. How can I get the other 'voices'? I am using W12 under Windows 10.
Is it possible to make Lofi in waveform?
@@AudioTechTV I just checked again. All I have in Rompler are: 808; 909; Metronome; Micro 808 and Micro 909.
@@einsteinorwell same
The romper doesn't really contain anything it's a bit pointless unless tracktion expand it
@@AudioTechTV thanks a lot!
Another great tutorial 👌 👍 👏 Thanks Zane !!
Thank you💐, clear and simple overview
Greate I have one question how to fix a audio problem it shows the audio bar is working but I can’t hear the beats but the test headphones thing work
Make sure the track isn’t muted.
@@AudioTechTVcan i use synthV/Vocaloid/Piapro studio on Luna and Waveform?
Good overview video sir. Under free version I cant see how I can use all those preset voices in the Rompler program .. please see advise ??
I'm all over this!
Right on. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
the free version doesnt have any rompler presets, so rompler is useless on it unless you buy them?
Still using 12 free (haven't yet updated to 12.5). Having a lot of trouble with playback when trying to use Nectar Elements after processing through it. My computer is old. It seems nothing happens when I click on the CPU meter in Waveform. Is that only an option in the paid version, to see the CPU meter details?
Is it possible to ise like Apple's Mainstage. For life performances? How is it on CPU?
Thenks for the vid
This was a big help for this noob. Disgusted with LMMS*, and looking for alternative. (*Why doesn't a LINUX based DAW not load .so VST plugins!?!?!)
Fantastic 👏🏽
God bless you mate!
Can you midi map to toggle between instruments?
I never tried it, I am Pro with CUBASE12PRO, but without limitations of tracks, this is my go to suggestion, when some1 asks for a free DAW, with samples, plugins ect-
How can I change the key on a single track without affecting others?
Thanks
Yes you can bring in your own wav files or record them in if you like.
There's no record function on the microsampler. I don't know how to use it :(
Hi, I purchased the Midi Producer Expansion for Waveform Free.
Or if you want drums then you can add the micro drum sampler, you’ll need to choose one of the kits after adding the micro drum sampler.
thanks!!@@AudioTechTV
Hope it helps!!
does the free version support 'Side Chain' ? and how many send buses are available?
Yes you can do side chaining in Waveform Free and sends and busses are unlimited. With Waveform you can turn any track into a bus and you can put sends and returns anywhere. The mixer is modular.
Just got Waveform 12 Free today. Curious where it stores recorded files and if you can tell it otherwise... external drive for example.
On windows it saves in a folder in your Documents folder. You can change where it saves. Check out this video where I go over that th-cam.com/video/cGHbMYwQWKg/w-d-xo.html
Got it. Thanks. Now saving to ext. thunderbolt 3 G-drive on my M1 iMac.
Hi!
Why are preset names duplicated in waveform?)
How to use the "shadow track" feature?)
they have midi producer expansion, if I buy it what can I do with it? please guide me.
I really like the browser rework in this version in previous version using build in browser was nightmare for me.
I am looking to switch to WF12 and starting with free, though I can easily see picking up the Producer bundle or Pro. Zane, besides you and Tracktion Software, are there any other YT creators I should be following?
Look up the channel called “inventive gear” that’s Bill Edstrom’s channel. He writes the manuals for Waveform and does videos on Waveform stuff too.
@@AudioTechTV thx brotha
can i connect my midi keyboard to this software?
Yes you can
Hey Zane, I’m a Mac/Logic guy but tried Waveform Free 11 and just upgraded to v12.
@@AudioTechTV fair enough!
When I install waveform 12 free will my projects from waveform 11 free work properly?
They may not reply quickly but it doesn’t mean that they won’t work on it.
awesome stuff
Do you need an interface to use this
You don’t need one to use the software but if you’re going to be recording audio into it then you may want to get one for better quality recordings with lower latency.
Good video.

I have Waveform 11 Pro. Do you know if I install Waveform 12 Free, will it pick up and recognize the plugins that came with the paid Waveform 11 Pro?
Yes it will recognize the plugins that came with Waveform 11 Pro. But features like the chord track, and other integrated features that only work in pro will likely not be available to you.
If you download and install Waveform 12 free, it does not overwrite Waveform 11 so you’ll still be able to use it if you end up not liking Waveform 12 free. However any projects that you create or save in the newer version may not open in the older version. So if you work on existing projects in waveform 12 maybe create a duplicate of it first.
How do i even add a sound to a track?
If it’s a sample that you’ve downloaded, you can drag and drop it onto whatever track you want. You can either use the built in browser to find your sample folders or just drag and drop from the desktop.
Still stuck on waveform 11 :( waveform 12 keeps crashing any tips ?
If you haven’t updated to the latest version of waveform 12 I suggest doing that.
Also waveform typically doesn’t crash on its own, it’s usually caused by a plugin or plugins. If it’s crashing due to a plugin that you’re using, don’t use that plugin in your projects. Also you can enable plugin sandboxing so it won’t crash the program completely.
is wavform your main DAW
It’s has been for a few years now.
i am still a beginner i got the free version i am still learning how to use it
Zane: I have attempted to download Waveform 12 Free, and it doesn't look like it is free anymore.

It remains to be seen if the Traction team are willing to hold their hands up and admit Waveform 11 wasn't fit for purpose on a Mac running 10.11.6 and allow me to use one of the upgrade licenses.
waveform says only free for30 days
You should check out “Waveform Free” it’s the FREE version.
I have and that's what I downloaded, but it reverts to demo with annoying voice over telling me that it's upgrade or 30 day trial.
If you registered for waveform free on their website then you should be able to log in from within Waveform and turn it into Waveform Free, taking away that annoying voice. Sometimes you have to login then close the program and open it back up.
Sorry to pester, going in and changing to the free still only gives you 30 days.
Microphone signal is very low. What I should do. Please
Condenser mics typically don’t require as much gain as dynamic microphones.
you are great
you are saying free yet u are using pro😔
I can't upgrade from waveform 11 free to 12 free why Zane my man?
Im not too sure but I think that Waveform Free doesn’t really have the number versions. It’s just Waveform Free and then they update it whenever. It usually doesn’t get upgraded as soon as the new version comes out. Waveform 13 is apparently coming out tomorrow. So maybe they will update Waveform Free tomorrow too.
I don’t have any close ties to Waveform so I don’t know any of the upgrade and update stuff. I think they have a forum on KVR where you can ask questions and hopefully get answers.
I just looked at their website and it does look like they do numbers with the free version now. Did you register for waveform 12 free?
@@AudioTechTV im not sure if i did, i do have waveform 11 free on my laptop but when i go to their website and click on the download waveform free, it doesn't show the link for 12 only 11
@@AudioTechTV oh wait i had to make a check out it's working now, thankyou zane so much, you're always a big help!
