Just bought one yesterday and it’s already my favorite tool. Enough power for every homeowner or land owner that wants to keep their cars safe, power lines clear of falling branches, and so on. First pole saw I’ve ever owned and yeah, their are more powerful ones for more-demanding jobs, but this one will whip my place into shape with batteries I already own and the price is RIGHT! Great review, by the way. First video of yours that I’ve seen and it told me everything without dragging me through the mud.
As a homeowner with trees, I see this tool in my near future. Already have the string trimmer and leaf blower and love them both. Thanks for the entertaining vid.
My inlaws used their ryobi to trim some branches at my house, can't afford a gas pole saw. Saw it work and it did really good. The Oregon and Milwaukee are really good too but more expensive and believe you have to buy the extensions Edit:Just bought the ryobi 10inch with 2amp battery and charger
I spent $109 on a Ryobi 10", 40V pole saw, 9.5' long, bare tool, yesterday. I used it yesterday and again today. Great investment. Simple and works great.
When I got my battery-operated chain saw a few years ago, it became my favorite tool! It is great for cutting down shrubs also - no crouching with a chainsaw - I also bought a battery chainsaw also - I use it more than my gas one (except for large trees). Easy stop and start and also quiet! I am catching up with all of your videos - I am enjoying them! (even the 'Dad' jokes!)
I fought a pole saw stuck on a limb for an hour once... Ended up attaching chain to limb and my truck to get the tension off and then it finally came out! :))
It is always a good idea to search for good practices to remove branches or prune a tree. There is a precise spot near the trunk where it needs to be cut so it heal properly. You also don’t want the branch, when it falls, to peel the trunk. That’s why you have to make an under cut for larger branches. You do your under cut, let’s say 4 inches from the trunk and you cut the branch 6 inches from the trunk. Then you cut the small part that is left near the tree trunk. That way, there is no weight on the piece you cut last and it won’t damage the tree. Take it from someone that pruned 3000 white pines, 16 feet high with a gas pole saw. A hell of a job!
I recently decided to get a pole saw and went with the Worx WG323 20V 10-inch Pole Saw from Amazon. It a great little saw. I can completely disconnect the saw from the poles, plug the battery into the saw and use it like a regular chainsaw. It will power through a cut nicely even though it's only 20V. Overall, I'm very happy with the saw. BUT... (There's always a but...) The pole is rather flimsy. It is a collapsible design with 1 pole sliding inside the other. The electrical connection is a continuous wire through the pole, so no disconnects. At the full 12 foot reach, the saw is bouncing all over the place! When I want to store the saw, I unscrew the pole in the middle and fold it over. Clunky! Looks like the Ryobi pole design team got it right. Thanks for a great video!
juantransportador - thanks very much. I definitely won’t cut near power lines. These were just cable and telephone. Thank you for watching and for your kind comments. Glad to have you here.
Glad you got it! That chainsaw on the stepladder routine had me concerned. My two pieces of advice are..... Get a good forestry helmet. With a polesaw it is easy to have something swing down at your head. Also the face screen will keep sawdust out of your eyes when you are looking up. Second if cutting anything over a free inches in diameter cut it into bits from the end. Less to have swing down at you and less chance it will bind the saw up. I usually cut at 16 to 24" for anything over three inches.
Hi I just recently bought the the Ryobi 40 volt trimmer/edger and I'm wondering if I can just buy just the extension and the actual saw and if it can be attached to the trimmer that a I have? Or do I have to buy the whole saw along with? Thabk n you in advance.
Hi. I don't think this is modular system, so I think you'd have to buy the whole saw. However, I bought the saw only, and my battery from my string trimmer works in both tools. Thanks for watching!
I found that any oil that is left in the chamber after use ends up on the floor not good annoying really. How did you find it? I guess these saws are ok for doing cutting like you did in your video however I have a fig tree and branches are going straight up in the air and that goes for my lemon tree as well, it is truly impossible to cut those branches and I am going to have to pay someone a couple of hundred dollars to actually come and do the job. How disappointing. Good review thank you.
Did you try the strap? I have a weak left shoulder from an accident, and it seems like the strap would provide some leverage so that the right arm could provide additional lifting force for the head. Does that make sense? Did you try it out?
The strap definitely helps. But the fact that the electric motor is at the end of the saw still makes it heavy. I’d be tempted to go with a gas model for that reason.
Have one from H F. . Gift . The only downside is wife can make a days cleanup in a hour . Have had a 120 volt , and a gas . Cord was the problem , because I didn't use the gas , so up keep was the problem . Get it a battery one , you won't be disappointed
I have Kobalt/Lowes version. I have to keep eye on one section that tens to unscrew when using full length of this saw. Just something to pass on, you may not have this issue with your Ryobi? Under cutting the limb then top cut and i have not yet gotten the blade stuck up in the limb.
Good evening SIR 😊 I'M SHOUTING TO YOU !!! ED READ THAT DARN INSTRUTION BOOK 🤣👍😇 Perhaps, pre lubes your chains from the outside like when you put a new chains on a chainsaw( dip it in a tray fill with light bar oil for 1 hrs ). Great video Sir and it is also a great tool 😊👍 Keep up the good works Ed Cheers !!!
Too bad the handle grip is not moveable. :( The handle is exactly like string trimmer but for this pole saw? Wait.. it seems like the handle grip indeed moveable? I will check tomorrow. ;)
As a safety comment it is always prudent to wear a safety helmet if you are working where things can fall from above you. I have personally prune trees and branches come charging down on your head.
Yes, Ryobi makes cheap stuff, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a place. For the once in a while kind of homeowner, they’re fine, but I work my tools hard, and often, so no Ryobi in my collection. For things I only use a few times a year or so, Harbor Freight is hard to beat.
Matt Giegler - absolutely. This tool may only get used a few times throughout the year. However, now that I see how useful it is, I’ll buy a better replacement in the future. Thanks for watching.
I haven't cut bigger than 3 inch limbs, as I mainly got it to trim smaller, low-hanging branches. It does cut really well thought. After having it for a while, my only complaint is that it's pretty heavy, especially with the longest extension. The benefit of the gas model is that the engine weight is at the handle end.

@@MyClutteredGarage Like you, I had been standing on a ladder, swinging a rented chainsaw over my head before I got the Ryobi.

Great video! I’ll be trying mine tomorrow, after I get the chain oil. Didn’t realize I needed it. Lots of trees to trim here in NC!

thanks for that, it was a big help in my choice of the 18v.

Awesome video sir! You have helped me make my choice to getting a good cordless pole saw!
I'm officially getting old when this sort of stuff is exciting and relevant to me. AH well who cares, its fun work and a great video, thank you!

I store mine standing up with the bar at the top and haven’t had any leaks. My chainsaws all leak out 😫
Did you try the strap? I have a weak left shoulder from an accident, and it seems like the strap would provide some leverage so that the right arm could provide additional lifting force for the head. Does that make sense? Did you try it out?
The strap definitely helps. But the fact that the electric motor is at the end of the saw still makes it heavy. I’d be tempted to go with a gas model for that reason.
I hope you took the battery off before messing with the chain!😉
Should we say they set the bar high on this one?😊
Nice! 😄
this saw is exactly $211 at home depot(incl tax), may be the longer version

This or the 18v for a small home. Lot tall hedge a few large trees?
My only complaint is that it's heavy.
@@MyClutteredGarage I have some huge hedge plants..is this better than a hedge trimmer for that? they can take an aggressive cut.
@@Frank020 I wouldn’t use it for a “finish” cut but if you have big limbs in your hedge it would probably work well.

Can one buy additional extension poles?
I don’t know, but I don’t think you’d want to. It goes pretty high already and gets pretty heavy.
Where did you get it for $119?
