The reason why the "Imperial Japanese" flag wasn't used was because that wasn't actually Japan's flag. That was just their army's flag if I'm correct.
Wanted to say that myself. Given the official flag of Imperial Japan was the Hinomaru as is used right now, it should be more criticized over the Army flag really

Man the people are the same, the culture remained the same the land remained the same! Changing a flag does not mean anything for Japan as much as it does for Germany!

@@MSKofAlexandria I don't know. Something about it feels off to me. I don't really like the colors, because they are too saturated for my taste, or at least the red for being so prominent. I don't think the Soviet Union's flag looks bad for example, because there the red is much more pleasing to the eye.

Actually, as of 2024, Kyrgyzstan is the latest country to change its flag. The sun's rays were straightened so that it was not mistaken as a sunflower since sunflowers in Kyrgyz culture can signify "a fickle and servile person willing to switch allegiance for personal benefit."
I think it didn't become official tho.
Kyrgyz are protesting because of this, old flag is better, imo

The Imperial Japanese flag was almost exactly the same as the one Japan uses today. The one that some people say "Imperial Japanese flag" is the army flag. I think the military flag was put on the occupied land, so it became famous as the Imperial Japanese flag.

I'm a bit disappointed they didn't use the inverted blue and red colors as the flag change for the Philippines during wartimes, but I understand why they chose the Japanese flag to symbolize their occupation.
1928 Taiwan is still under Japanese colonial control, it shouldn't be changing flag along with the other part of the China until the end of WW2.
