What is going on with you and Paul?
completely custom built, specialty rig...not surprising, it having growing pains
Matt I’m no expert but after watching your last three videos I would say you need to have the bombi in the shop. That thing has issues!
I make the fenders for that Gladiator.
I felt that the same way you did about the torque converter with a ticking injection pump in my truck. I spent 40k miles listening to it irritated the whole time.
That segment with the Army Reserve had me so excited! I do that! I'm Active duty Army stationed in Germany and I operate my own M984A4 HEMTT Wrecker, ask me anything!
Well... tell us about your best recovery you had
What's the winch on the rear rated for? And is it true it can run on used motor oil as fuel?
Thank you for your service! Have a wonderful day!
Can Putin get something stuck in Ukraine so badly that not even you can pull it out?
How exactly does a posi-trac rear-end on a Plymouth work?
Painting with rattle cans tip .. heat the can with hot water before using it, it makes such a huge difference in how it lays down and dries that I do it every time regardless of outside temperature (remember that the pressure drop from high pressure inside the can to outside pressure causes the paint's temperature in the spray to drop greatly) so happy that you are getting the roof fixed up, and upgrading the drive train 🙂
I' ve been doing that for years and it does make a big difference.
Thanks, I'll remember that for next time. 👍
What makes a bigger difference is buying a saws-all adaptor for paint cans to shake them. I don't care if you and 3 more people shake that can for an hour each, the saws all is the greatest improvement to a rattle can Earl Schieb artist job money can buy. (Who remembers him?)
Don't blow up the can! Wrap it tightly in a Towel. Wheres ED?
@@rickwallace5582 Yes, I remember Earl Scheibs $89.95 paint jobs in Phoenix ... Now that sawzall rattle can shaker is a great idea. I looked it up and there are several types available and now I'm gonna make one from an old sliding bar clamp. ... ...Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
You totally need a matts off road recovery decal on the roof of the wrecker, for cool drone shots (and police helicopter chases, off course) 😂
How about black stripes at an angle like the yellow marker signs?
I feel that Rett needs a shout out. He does have me grinning at his humour/manner.
He do be vibin frfr
Rett is my favorite dude on this possee....
Jakes attitude says EVERYTHING about his personality. Bless this whole group! Happy Sunday yall from Ohio!
My wife and I attended the World Extreme Rock Crawling Competition in Bagdad, AZ on Saturday, Feb. 24. We had the pleasure of meeting Katelynn. What a nice young lady. Katelynn and her dad were among the competitors. Meeting her was the highlight of our day.
I worked with Tom in his previous career as a nuclear engineer in Idaho. It's great to see him having such a good time working and playing with his friend Matt.
On the new shop, make sure to run conduit tubes so you can wire the shop for Cat6e. This will allow you expand your wifi and can power cameras via PoE.
one of the best things about your channel, Matt, is your never-ending fearless learning and how that builds up across time in your shop - thanks for sharing as always
You've got to love how Ed instinctively reaches over Matt's shoulder with the red rag to mop up the oil on his fingers! Lile he's done it a million times before!
Props to all our military people out there! You are appreciated!
I was in Service and Recovery in a Maintenance Unit in the Army. That was AWESOME to see! Look up a M88 Recovery Vehicle. Our Recovery guys used those
Thank you to all our military who serve and protect our great country! Matt, you and your crew are gettin-er-done on the wrecker! Catch you on the next. ✌️ 😊
Thank you for sharing the love to our military! We need to do more to share that appreciation
My son commands a detachment of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, the British Army equivalent. His soldiers recover tanks and other military equipment. The CRARRV is an armoured recovery vehicle for main battle tanks. Massive thing!
Nice to see our service members, Army, hanging out with Matt
Great upgrade coming to the wrecker...Great video
Never seen Kaitlin actually do anything as called work, what is her purpose ?
Cheerleader?
Going to school is her purpose.
Friggin love seeing Dig Dug. There's something about that truck.
I was going to go to Barnes if I could get an 11% discount, but 10% just won't cut it. You really should talk Barnes into making your discount 11%. Keep up the great work. I really enjoy your videos.
Fun show again. I have to thank you so much. Started watching you, then on to Paul, then Rory, Chad, Merlin, Robbie. What a journey and more to come!!
I like that blue Freedom winch line with the yellow. It might even be better than yellow and black 😮. And matches the bilstein sticker!
Working with the military was absolutely beautiful. Thanks Matt.
Hope they show up for the Offroad Games. I bet everybody would love to show them our thanks for their service.
There's an old saying, "Follow your passion and you won't work a day in your life". I think Matt is a great example of that.
Katelynn and Kaulin are spending a lot of time together lately, and he bout her an expensive hat in a recent episode. It's nice to see young people enjoying each other's company. 👩❤👨💞
Came here to write this if i didnt find it. Im thinking there is a romance brewing at Matts Off Road Recovery.
Always good to see Ed and Max on there. Even if it's just a cameo. I like to use a clean rag and boiled linseed oil on bare metal to slow the rust and keep the patina. Later if I want to paint just some good solvent and it comes right off. I like seeing the inside of the gear boxes to see what takes them out. Seems like Katelynn is picking up good on the work.
Really? I think the only useful thing I've even seen her do is sweep the shop floor, usually she just stands around smiling at Kaulin.
Safety squint engaged! 6:06 Matt's even got TomTom drilling overhead without safety glasses now. 😞
Those were getting stuck daily over in Baghdad. We used the M88 to pull em out (Tank Tow Track). Simply because it was armored better and we were in a constant combat area. Seeing this brings back some memories for sure.
I just flatten a peice of copper tubing for the hole welding. Great seeing the army out there with super heavy rigs!!!
Years ago doing training at Fort Polk, LA a young private drove a similar Hemtt down the wrong 2 lane road, he decided the best course of action was to turn around on the skinny road, also the road was built up on a berm through a swamp, well he drove down into the swamp thinking he was in a unstoppable rig, next thing you know you could not see any of the 8 tires under the mud, they brought out a M88A1, thats a tank recovery vehicle, they had to park this down the other side of the berm as its winch just pulled the M88A1 closer to the stuck HEMMT, once they jpulled it down the berm, they were finally able to winch the HEMMT out, but the cable sawed a nearly foot deep trench into the road, fun times
For a welding heat sink, watch rummage sales or estate sales for the old soldering irons from 1860-1950's they typically have a pointed copper chunk about 2"x2"x4" with a steel rod and wooden handle. one or two of the irons can be modified to absorb the heat from welding. I use anti spatter wax to help with release. I either shim the heat sink into position or have a helper hold it in position. Often weld will stick so use the handle to twist the sink off the repair. I purchased my last one for $0.50 The bare copper cost brick about $25.00.
Thanks for sharing y'all's adventures!!
Thanks for sharing. The MORR team getting things right, one piece at a time.
Dude! Love to see you out there having fun! Happy you didn’t get seriously hurt and hope you come back with a better truck and become more involved in the sport!
Hello guys. I'm not good at painting and not at your level in the work shop. I just would tell we had the same colour problem for painting years ago. We got the right colour mixed and used a very cheap and simple paint pump called Wagner which gave a reliable result at level a bit higher than the small spray cans, and we could paint like the hole roof at the wrecker. We had the paint in stock and could use it if needed. The paint pump was so cheap and simple that it could be discarded when it no longer worked. And without the spray fog from a pro system we had no need for a big paint box for the work. Best Regards from Norway
I think Ed deserves to drive the heavy wrecker just once I think he would love it
Matt always does his best work when Ed is supervising!
I discovered this channel around Christmas. At some point I started watching all the videos in chronological order. Yesterday I caught up and felt not as satisfied as I thought I would.
And today there is a new video!
It's like having a friend with the most awesome family and they invite you over twice a week.
Thank you to all the service folks.
The Maintenance detachment I ran had an M984A2 that was a beast.
I loved driving it
Let the paint dry for 2 weeks, sand with real fine paper. Paint with clear coat to finish roof. Without clear coat rattle can paint doesn't last. Looks great guys!
Loved seeing Jake getting it done with the 4.0, super cool for a guy moving his way up in the world to get tasked with a super important project.
Good that the wrecker got sorted, even better you found it needs a real upgrade - that's what you get when you build something that hasn't been done before - you just keep replacing the bits that break with tougher stuff until you get reliability.
Awesome video. Glad to see you working with Army H8 crews. They are awesome at what they do! Also, glad to see you quit using Monster transmissions. Their company is terrible to us blue collar people trying to do this kind of d of stuff on a low budget. Last monster that I installed made it about 6 miles behind a stock LS2 GTO. They wouldn’t stand behind it and cost the customer about 3 grand. I replaced it at no cost to help them out. Your values don’t seem to align with theirs. Great work! You’re 11% ready for the off road games.
That is AWESOME seeing you interacting with the Army 🙂
Glad you finally fixed the holy roof. Still needs new paint on the inside roof or headliner.
More improvements being made to the off road wrecker to make it more of a beast then it already is.
Thank you 191 troops! Good coverage Matt.
I do not know if you are prior military, but watching you work reminds me of a Marine Corps phrase of " Improvise, adapt and overcome" and being you like to reference movies, it was used by Clint Eastwood in "HeartBreak Ridge" From every aspect that I have seen, you always accomplish your recoveries, even if it is with help of your other connections. Great job.
Its crazy if you think about, that the Heavy Wrecker eats through pretty good and robust Transfercases. And that mushed Needlebearing is mindblowing in its own. But I hope this year the Wrecker will be having Lockers and all.
It is good to see Ed adding his expertise to the work!
Great video!! Nice to see the wrecker getting some repairs and upgrades!!
Did anyone else [hey, I'm old}] see vestiges of Harpo Marx when Kaulin was staring in the windshield and drumming on it? Got me to smile.
If you pull the front clip off the XJ you can have it in or out in about 2 minutes. First time taking front clip off is annoying but there are way too many fasteners from factory IMO. I have only the 6 main 10mm bolts left and threw out the rest takes me about 30 seconds to remove front clip now. Can pull, do full gasket kit, drop back in, reassemble and running in 6 hours at this point.
Glad you are doing little upgrades to improve the wrecker.👍
Operated that HEMTT Wrecker for two years in Europe in 1990 and 1991 - from Germany, England, Denmark and numerous other countries and adventures. It drives straight down the Autobahn at 2 AM only if you have your hands on your nuts and your "added" Radio blasting AC/DC through some Pioneer TX-25 speakers.
Yankum needs to supply the Military. That would be a job.
When using a heavy duty drive shaft, they are usually divided segments, like the large Bronco, older ones, look one over, u might be able to fix that problem of extra metal in the oil, doing this, something to think about, nice rigg, congrats
Listening to Matt talking about entering the Gambler 500 while working on my Gambler 500. Nice timing.
Would have loved it if you had shared more of the off road driving. You live in such a beautiful area, and it is wonderful for us arm chair tourists to see the countyside. Plus, it would have been cool to see the shake down of the new components. Regardless, thanks for taking us along.
6:10 that wrecker is something to be proud of the designer done a great job as well as all that helped build it
Wow, those are the headers I suggested way back during the build. Good job!
Oh, winching the wrecker into the shop reminded me of that amazing video y'all made winching the wrecker around the yard. Still one of the best.
Love the Robbie love.... er, um, chiding.
Those big Army vehicles are proudly built here in Wisconsin! About 20 minutes from my house
Thrilled to see you hanging out with the Army! \o/
The military clips were super cool😮😮 rhett was just hilarious in this 1❤❤
The dog swim was a great addition to the video.
What a beautiful part of America you live in.
Awesome video! Congrats on all your achievements!
That "blowtorch & static" paintjob made the heavy wrecker 11% morr better! 😁🤟
Mat iv decided to build out my 79 280zx datsun, in to a prerunner / rock crawler build. The morevare has got me convinced. Great videos keep up the work👍
The ground buss bar from industrial panels are pure copper. Hopefully someone will donate a chunk of one to you. I used mine years ago to ball up the tip of my TIG tip when welding aluminum.
it was awesome of you to hang out with the army from an army vet
as someone who runs alot of different torque converters im 100% with you. ive had the best luck in my race truck with fti converters they seem to hold the best. i ran a 4.6 4v s/c with a 4r70 behind it. i went threw 3 converters before the fti 2600 stall seemed to be the best fit and to this day (i sold the truck) but it had 6 race days on it and seemed to still be shifting perfect. i do miss it but now im back to manual trans.
I've used a couple FTI's with good luck. But CircleD has been my go to for converters in turbo trucks
Always cool watching the adventures of the team.
I worked with a guy when I first started towing that was in the army driving those rigs. Pretty cool hearing those stories
Katelynn adds a breath of fresh air…Matt has a great team!
I loved the RC Rock Crawler sounds as the wrecker was cruising
An electrical copper buss bar works just fine.
I really like the aluminum foil on the headers! It looks cool!
Those maneuvers were cool! thanks!
Jeeze! That was good enough for now. That monster xfer case was needed! When you put those HUGE tires on it I was thinking you were short on transfer case maybe trans too! Easy to second guess someone else’s!! Livin the dream you are💯. After those mods I expect it will be EPIC!!! Keep up excellent content. Sure hope Bombi gets bugs worked out too! That is a nice rig for recovery!
Thanks for the great memories, I was responsible for two M984’s when they first came out in the 80’s while stationed in Nüremburg, Germany 🇩🇪
I also had two M88A1’s, three M936A1 5ton wreckers, an M578 Tracked Recovery Vehicle, a 15T Crane and an International Harvester 10,000lbs Articulating All Terrain Forklift.
Another great feel good episode.
Now that I've got my Sunday vicarious off-roading and gearing done, it feels like I've accomplished something. 😜
Yall see that pallet of Milwaukee tools in the new shop? Well deserved sponsorship!
Another awesomely excellent episode of Matt's Off Road Recovery. Great stuff!👍😎🇺🇸
Always something to work on when you have several vehicles. Hope all the new things on the wrecker solve all the problems!
The fun and the upgrades never end…. Keep it up MORR Had a chance to give you a wave and a shout last Saturday night out close to the Top of the World. 👍👍👍
Класс видео! Класс коллектив! Очень хотел бы трудиться в такой команде! Вы все красавчики!!
Has peanut ever said no to a ride and a run?😂😂😂
Would be super stoked to see you guys wheel in Oregon with the Gambler crew!
I cant wait to see the wrecker doing back flips😆
You guys are fantastic so intresting started with you since morvare I'm uk and did tons of work for usaf lakenheath I was that no1 mechanic to get ready vehicles for gulf war was great time and when I see you all playing with us army what a joy to be there here in uk it would be nothing to see here boy do I love America and do I love your show thanks mate and family (that's who you have working for you to) god bless you all
Hi Ed!! Good to see the progress on the WLOR Wrecker.
For welding up bolt holes, try the "old solid copper penny" trick. Silicone the penny to a dowl rod and press it to the back side of the sheet metal. It worked for me, AND guess how much it cost???
Pennies haven't been solid copper since 1857. They were 95% copper alloy up to 40 years ago. They've been 2% copper plated zinc since 1982.
That is WHY i said OLD copper penny!!! Pre 72 were solid. Everybody's grandpa has a box full.@@stargazer7644 They're not hard to find.
Mat we love the sleeker noise of your garage door when you open and close don’t lube!
Don’t forget to Dynomat The inside of the roof so that it won’t transfer heat as bad. And some cup holders center console
Not just heat, but it will make the cab quieter as well.
We add booms to some of those oshkosh military trucks that made your wrecker look tiny. Also the 4.0 jeep engine is based off the old AMC engine so adding one of those cranks bumps up some of the displacement in that stroker engine.
Next time when you're painting use a leaf blower it helps the paint set faster. A fan can speed up the dry time as well.
You're rig has inspired me to get my rc truck rebuilt. I have a running LMT with a beat up body but really wanted a beefy crawler. What's beefier than the wrecker that saves big crawlers.
Thanks for showing the Army Reserve vehicles and thanks for their service. I look forward to seeing the wrecker when it gets the new box. Great video
Truly surprised, and not, that you guys don’t already have a paint code for that yellow. Love you all!
For a vehicle painted at an unknown time that’s been sitting out in the sun that they’ve never painted before? Yeah that’s just going to be a match as best you can.
