nailed it. Reseeded the back last fall and had a lot of die off in the winter. Filled in the new spots and hit it with the green punch, but growth has stalled. time to feed again!
As soon as I saw the spot, I knew exactly what it was and what it was telling you! 😂 Good advice here, for sure! All I've done so far is a little wake-up feeding with Revive to also make use of its wetting agent. The back yard is growing like crazy. I just mowed Sunday and I could mow again today. I turned my sprinklers on early because the yard was feeling crunchy. It perked right up. Turned them back off because of all the rain we've been getting. Was thinking about turning them on if we don't get rain tomorrow, but will wait until Sunday to stress the grass to push root growth. Probably time to put down some RGS and Air-8, too.
I fed my yard on April 7th coming out of winter, I had patchy areas and when I applied pre-emergent I also fed with fertilizer. I just plug a second application of fertilizer down on Saturday, two days ago, as what I thought was Poa Annua seeding turned out to be KBG/TTTF seed heads. I really thought I was in trouble but after analyzing the seed head and looking at countless pics on line it wasn’t Poa, so I fed again Saturday as the seed head stage is coming to an end and I thought the grass could use a little shot of food after expending all that energy on seed production? So far so good?! Great content as usual JP!!
That's funny, I saw some dark spots on my lawn too and pondered if I am leaving some green on the table. I would think you'd put a feeding down just to help accelerate healing some of those damaged spots.
Great tips John, thanks! I have been wondering how to distinguish not enough water with too low temps and not enough N. Do you have some tips? Just irrigate and see what happens? I did put 0.7 pound N 20 days ago, but don't see much response. I did irrigate only after spraying it though and we have it quite dry now.
You like flagship granulated fertilizer from yard mastery? I applied five weeks ago and just applied double dark. For liquids looking to apply sea kelp and then rgs and humic 12. Is this okay to do? Also it's time for grub control/ late May. Cheers
On the golf course I use clover also as the indicator of fertilizer. On fairways it’s almost impossible to be completely clean of clover so the small 1 or 2 foot patches will be darker compared to the turf. It works well because it’s easier to spot spray dicamba and then fertilize after.
I'm starting to get nervous about the full sun low water Fescue lawn I established last year ....yeah I've already fed it about up to a few weeks or a month ago(very balanced, sometimes alittle synthetic high N, sometimes 10-10-10, sometimes organic Malorgalike/chickpoo, sometimes MicroGreen or other N-Ext StimuPack, sometimes heavy if it was going to be wet and I felt it could get down to develop roots) but it is so *dense* atm and growing so healthy, but *what happens when the heat comes?* and yes it is projected to be a record hot(and dry) one this summer in the USA heartland....but with that grass growing so tight(clippings will barely mulch in) I'm afraid the plants are over populated and will start to kill eachother out of selfish need for nutrients and moisture - I do have one or two more clicks up higher I'd still like to go on my mower before full heat hits(i'm at 'normal' height of 3" that I've kept that old lawn at for years, but higher could work better as long as it slows down on growth) but cutting a few times a week now and I don't want it to grow any stronger with any taller grass yet .... or should I just let it loose and see what happens? I might give it one last feeding and water, then let it go up to the highest cut height for the start of June? but my growing season is about ready to come to an end pretty soon here I bet, lol, I've already had a few good months of spring, and BAM! it might just get hot here in Iowa in less than a month.....but did you even put your skis away yet?

Its amazing how well your lawn has recovered from Winter and without watering it yet. I had to feed the lawn twice already to wake up the sod. The ProVista KBG needed some stimulation to get started. We had mild Winter and no snow but Spring has been abnormally dry here. The 2nd feed was to push growth after sand level done 10 days ago. Have been watering regularly now for the last two weeks where as in the past waited till Memorial Day for feeding and watering. 👍🏻💚🦸🏻
One of the most informative videos yet JP you hit all the nails on the head on this one 💪🏻 cheers
Thank you my friend

I am on the JP train….been running lower N and feeding based on feel. So far its been great 👍
Feel it. Feed it. Kick grass

Don’t get concerned, just mow it down! Phos will be beneficial

How would one know if the turf needs RGS or nitrogen? This year in Utah my turf is late to wake up.
Rake it and feed it. Then RGS
@@Lawncology thank you. How often can I apply the RGS? Could I do it every 3 weeks if I use 3 ounces per 1k?

Yeah man, a little N fixer shows up and you know to go
You're a wise ol sage. Nitrogen potential from dog spots...I like it.
Yeah man
Would you put down extra Green charge on areas that are struggling or even throughout the yard?
Nothing wrong with touch up. That’s the best part of liquid!

Do you ever still recommend using the spoon juice 5-0-1 product?
Yes. I love it for weekly and bi weekly feeding. Amazing color
We would know when it’s time to fertilize when Conner finally puts out a lawn guide. Lol.
Lolz just do it when he does!
If he ever does it will be the one guide you never want to follow 😆
The rebel does, what the rebel wants.
I can't tell if mine already needs fert after a pound of N and P 2 weeks ago or if it just doesn't like the mid to upper 80s
Hmmm… are you sure you aren’t dealing with low CEC soil?
