  • You can mark the Torque converter and flex plate with a paint marker as they only line up one way when reassembled. Fighting allergies, heat, and a sore foot by far exceeded fighting the transmission!

    A literal goldmine of info. 18 years old and bought this truck as my first ever vehicle. No experience doing this whatsoever but I kinda have to change out the flex plate to get to college…

    Always fun watching someone else battle with the red rain.
    Neutral start connector, a little heat with a heat gun helps them seat proper. Especially the old ones.

    Was pleasantly surprised to see a drain plug on the 727 in my 68 D200. Apparently they used to put them in for some applications. Definitely made the whole process more "fun".

    Thanks. I hope your foot is all better and well. I found your video by asking Google "how hard is it to remove a 727 from an old pickup?"
    I have a 1984 D150 Prospector with a 318, and I bought a new 727 torqueflite from Summit. I got the same transmission jack that you have. Thanks for all the pointers.
    I'm 32 years older than the pickup, pray for me.

    “Any hue” ha, I see what you did there. Any track days coming up? Really curious to see what DT will do at this stage. B&M used to make a steel 727 deep pan kit with a drain plug, but last time I checked I couldn’t find them anywhere. I had heard that the A500 and A518 came with a deep pan w/drain plug, but my ‘92 A518 doesn’t have a plug. Maybe later production years?

    Man if you were to see me change out a 727 on one of my b body's you would want to hit me.... And twice if you saw me change it in my 87 4wd Ramcharger it's very easy with the HFT transmission jack even a cave man can do it but I'll leave UTG out of it...lol... The Speedo pinion number means how many teeth the pinion has I know you just forgot... I alway enjoy your videos ....man I hope you foot gets better fast! ...nice jack man be careful with you feet.... A top side creeper really helps your back working on the trucks at about $250 you can make a engine support bar from some 3/16s square tube to sit just inside the fenders with a chain holding engine cheap... You could even use wood!.... I bought one long ago at HFT for doing fwd cars there still relatively cheap to get. Glad you showed the easy way to tell lock up from no lock and you know the convertor are not interchangeable and the valve body has extra plumbing for the lock up feature as well.

    Drain plugs would be too easy. My first time was 73 Newport 400/727 in a pea gravel driveway. Only fell off jack 3 times before success. Had long hair back then that soaked up lots of fluid. Wet handprints all over lower fenders and doors. I gladly pay someone else nowadays.

      Nice that some youth is into this hobby! Pretty much just reverse of removing. Just watch that the torque converter is all the way seated (should be over an inch away from the tranny bell housing). Best of luck from us here at 318WR !!

    Would you be against putting a beefed up 904 in the truck?

    • @318willrun
      @318willrun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For racing or a street rod, a 904 would be a great thing. IF you are using it "as a truck", pulling, hauling, etc I would keep the 727

    • @318willrun
      @318willrun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 questions you have to answer: Is it a 360? Is it a lock up converter or Non- lock up? Truck or car will be the same. Converters are available for those at just about every tranny shop or Converter Specialty shop.

    • @318willrun

      Top bolts of the bell housing? You can sometimes reach from above or a long extension and a swivel

      I'm doing the same project and am almost done with the new installation. The top bell housing bolts are the most infuriating. I used a couple wobble extensions and multiple u joint sockets to reach up in there. Used a impact tool to remove them, but I didn't and wouldn't use an impact tool to get them back in.
