    Thank you for all the work on these videos dude. I can't describe how much my artwork has improved thanks to your tutorials. This video has probably saved me so much performance for SFM, thanks to the updated lighting tips you gave. Hell, I never even knew that motion blur can affect lights in that way! I have learned so much cool shit from this channel, and I just want to give my thanks! Keep up the great content!

    As a person who's been using your lighting method on your "How to Improve Your SFM Artworks" video" for 90% of my renders, this video made my renders a lot better than before. Really like your lighting trick here, especially the motion blur because that was really cool.
    Also one question but how would you light indoors or do you use the same lighting method? Especially since indoor interiors have tight spaces like a house or tunnel of some sort.

    • @cgijoe5671
      @cgijoe5671  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Indoor is a little trickier with walls and whatnot. You’ll need two basic things
      Two 360 lights on each end of the room ought to do the trick. Make sure it’s constant atten is up, and turn down intensity. Turn radius up.
      If your room has any bright lights, you might also want a bounce light (500 radius light with no shadows under the ground)

      @@cgijoe5671 Very late response my apology but I need help again.
      How do you do lighting when making animations since I'm slowly getting into animations and I saw snippets of your animations because lighting animations imo is different compared to renders imo? Especially since I don't think you can do the animated lights methods when doing animations.

    • @cgijoe5671
      @cgijoe5671  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Armordude91122Cute you actually can. You just can’t if you’re splitting up your shots, because the first frame of every shot has no motion blur. Other than that animated lights method works fine.
      Lighting animations is harder because you gotta account for other camera angles, but if your camera is cutting back and forth, you can move the lights accordingly

      What breaks artists isn’t lack of talent, it’s lack of commitment to building talent. If you don’t really care enough to work for it, that’s fine. But don’t let the lack of skill be what stops you from building it.

  • @GuiltlessGear

    what if the camera has to pan or move in any way? what if there's multiple shots? this method looks great for static shots but if the camera ever has to reveal more of the background, or the map or what have you, would I need to set up more ambient lights to cover more ground? could i get away with using an enormous ambient light covering the whole map, so wherever my characters go, the background will be properly lit? Or Should i only be thinking about lighting what the camera sees, and make individual lighting set ups for each camera?

    • @cgijoe5671
      @cgijoe5671  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be using an enormous ambient light yes, that means bringing your light way up to the top of the skydome and then lowering the fov as much as you can while covering the scene (higher fov means worse shadows)
      Generally you only need to light what the camera will see

    Great tutorial, only one gripe I have with it is you don't explain why our ambient lights need shadows on. I don't really see the point in having shadows enabled when there's no visible effect in the render

    • @cgijoe5671
      @cgijoe5671  ปีที่แล้ว

      You want shadows enabled for your ambient light because you don’t want light leaking through into areas it doesn’t have line of sight on.
      If you want a good example of this, go outside mid day and look at the shadow under a parked car. Unlike your shadow, which is blue, the car’s shadow is totally black.

    • @cgijoe5671
      @cgijoe5671  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s because constant attenuation makes it so that lighting is evenly distributed no matter how far away. It’s so bright because there’s no falloff. Just turn down the intensity a TON
