Thanks for posting this. I was a close friend of her brother Nicholas and so glad you mentioned him. He didn’t always live in a caravan but I wondered how you knew. I had the sad job of clearing his stuff out of a caravan about a year after he had died. A talented musician and composer. I knew him from when I was a teenager till he died.
Hi Tricia! Thank you so much for your comment! I found it really difficult to find anything out about Nicholas - I scoured the internet, newspapers books etc - I managed to glean small amounts about him - including a music book he’d contributed to - I’d have loved to have found more!
That’s so lovely! Do you know why he never became more well known? From what I could understand he was very private - also if you don’t mind me asking - did he look like Imogen - she was just stunning!
I remember falling in love with her statuesque figure, big beautiful eyes and gorgeous long brown hair in 'The Early Bird' when I was a little boy. I've never forgotten her, she was absolutely fabulous. Its so sad as if she would've just held on I can think of so many countless parts in film and TV she would've been made for! Life is so short and so cruel to some beautiful people. RIP Imogen. - Fantastic channel by the way.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment - it's very appreciated! Imogen was stunning and I believe from the stage reviews I've read - a true acting talent - and such fun on TV too xx
A very touching tribute. As you said, she was a genuinely talented actress whose personal life went astray. She used her beauty to gain fame but then could not shake off the stereotype. She needed a steadying influence in her life but could never find one.
I’ve got to say I watch a few of these programs where people find the graves of famous or infamous people and this lady is probably the best I’ve watched with her clear and sympathetic voice and that sweet touch of putting flowers on the grave. There’s a lot of famous people buried around my location but my favourite is Alexandra Bastedo one of the most gorgeous women on the planet. She’s next to her husband in a tiny little graveyard with just a couple of dozen graves but a beautiful location.
Thank you so very much! You’ve made my day! I truly appreciate your lovely words - and… The Champions! Alexandra is on my list!!!! She was a stunningly beautiful actress a true classic beauty - also talented and authentic!
Thank you. I literally only know her from Carry On Loving. She was very good in it. I loved Terry Scotts face after she changed her look. Such a sad ending, especially as it appears she tried to save herself. Lets hope she is resting in peace.
My pleasure! She was such good fun - I remember watching her in The Avengers etc - stunningly beautiful, educated and talented but she fell into the sex symbol trap and just couldn’t get out of it - yes, it was shocking reading that she’d tried to dial the phone - so terribly sad and heartbreaking xxxx
Thanks for uploading this excellent informative video on the incredibly beautiful Imogen Hassall. Myself and my wife (who in fact placed the pink tulip on her grave mentioned in your video) always make a point of visiting her grave when we are in Wimbledon. I became a fan over 50 years ago when I saw "Carry On Loving" and have always remained so.
Oh my goodness!!!! I’m so excited to read this! Hello! The tulip is so pretty! I have been a fan of Imogen’s for many years but that was my first visit to her resting place - my uncle lived in Wimbledon but I had no idea how close she was to where my uncle lived! ❤️
Thank you. Funny this comment coming from a guy but I might be the only guy who only really had my memory of this lady from my 1960’s. A sad life, wanting a life but just not being able to get a “fit” to a dream. Unquenchable thirst almost. A dreadful yearning for a life she felt was always unfulfilled. Thank you for a great presentation.
She truly was!!! Thank you so much - I really appreciate that because I’ve had to work hard at slowing down 🤣🤭 I can talk at an Olympic sport rate lol ❤️❤️❤️
Oh what an utter shame she was absolutely beautiful, what a figure. Also I expect a very sensitive creative soul and they seem to suffer the most. Hope she is at Peace.

Thank you so much, Steven! I'm glad you enjoyed the video featuring Imogen. She truly was a captivating and talented individual, and it's wonderful to hear that you found the content fascinating. A rather sad figure now on reflection - so much talent extinguished so early - great video of a beautiful lady. You are very correct the Carry On appearance is the one that seems to linger in the memory and she certainly should have been offered more from that time. Fantastic and well researched piece once again

A very sad story. Dear Ms. Hassall has been a favourite of mine for many years. I agree about "Carry On Loving." She was fantastic in that, and such a shame she didn't do more. As for "The Persuaders," well, yes, as you stated, it was shown in 1971, yet Imogen was in the pilot (first) episode called "Overture." That was filmed in 1970 at Pinewood Studios (interiors) and the Cote d' Azur (locations.) I also believe that Ms. Hassall's grave has been tidied and cleaned, along with flowers placed, from members of the FB Imogen Hassall group. Lovely roses you put there and a tasteful video tribute.
I love your channel I’m an American film obsessed with British cinema theater. I would love you to do a walkabout at her last place of residence near the crooked billit pub in Wimbledon. Keep up the great work.
That's so lovely! Thank you x I have actually walked around there but I didn't film it - however, I'd absolutely intend to go back and visit Imogen the next time I'm there - so I'd be happy to film a walk about - thank you for the suggestion! xx
Thanks for another interesting video. An unfamiliar name but a familiar face, as has been the case with several of the personalities you’ve featured - all fascinating. It’s lovely to see their graves remembered with flowers. You’re doing a grand job. I saw elsewhere in these comments that you mentioned Barry Evans - do you plan to feature him at some point? It seems his would be a fascinating story to be told. I used to love him in Mind Your Language! xx
Thank you so very much! Yes!!! I would love to do a video on Barry - it’s definitely on my list - and I agree - a fascinating story - I loved him in Mind Your Language too! Such a sad end to a great talent x
Fantastic look into Imogen’s life, absolutely stunning lady,so beautiful and talented…..love your channel not been watching long but very informative ect look forward to more👍😉
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre not atall, the first time i remember seeing her was the carry on film carry on loving…..she was absolutely stunning, would of been nice to see her in more
In all walks of life there are many people who are born never to make old bones. Sadly Imogen Hassall was one. When your family, due to talent live in the glare of the public spotlight, your path is laid out.Young gifted in the early years of Swinging London, being part of the changing scene. Being a professional entertainer came easily, and she played the part well. Her natural beauty and her figure were superb. Yet the Gods balance the ledger. She burnt brightly, like other stars ⭐ but was snuffed out far too soon 😢❤ l pray that she is now at peace ❤
It's so lovely to see her stone is very much cared for - I wonder if that person you met is the one that looks after her stone? xx I'll be popping in with flowers again soon x
Thanks for the upload. Very interesting. I remember Imogen Hassall very well. You've done a lot of research BTW and it shows in your uploads Very sad case . Very sad
What a lovely, affectionate and informative tribute to the gorgeous artist, Imogen Hassell. Of course, her looks attracted everyone, but she had superb timing, especially in comedy, which was not nearly exploited enough. Quite rightly, the narrator (Shar?) points out her wonderful appearance in Carry on Loving (1970)/ her rapport with Terry Scott was pure magic, but is so often in life people who are given natural gifts in one area often struggle in others. What a pity she just didn’t settle down with a nice fella who would love and support her. No one could’ve done much to help a baby born so prematurely, but - for sure - we all felt listening to this we wanted to give her a massive hug… for indeed she was clearly a very kind person. I say that as comments made by everyone who worked with her all say the same thing. Thank you for making this lovely tribute. I shall see many more of her films, but I do remember her appearance on The Persuaders which has come out in a stunning new Blu-ray transfer. It looks like it was made yesterday. It’s about time the Carry On films also receive the same treatment. But I’m going off piste. I do hope that Shar makes more videos like this. She has an obvious flair for it. But please do not pronounce then letter “H” “Haitch”. I’m fighting a losing battle. But who cares what I think. I’d still give this video 10/10 and wish Shar the very best of health, without which, life can be just misery. Time for my bedtime gin.
Thank you! I watched El Condor years ago - I need to have a refresh! I know of Dan Leissner’s book on Imogen - but I haven’t read it - and I don’t know him personally.
This lady was a bit before my time and due to her sadly passing young she was never someone whose name I knew. She was stunning though, and you can see why she had the nickname she did. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you so much Pete and thanks for watching! Imogen was stunningly beautiful - the scene at the beginning of the video is one of my favourites 🤭 I’m a big fan of Gareth Hunt! ❤️❤️❤️
It’s terribly sad - Imogen was talented and beautiful - it’s so awful that she felt she couldn’t go on - and then apparently may have changed her mind too lat - absolutely tragic xx
I hear you!!! It’s been mega busy here too and I’m just about to start a long weekend with my bestie! We’re going to drink Champagne, eat chocolate and watch Bombshell films lol 🥂🍾 best kind of busy! Have a great day!
Fantastic loved this thank you...all I can say is of her very troubled looking for love but never found it she had everything but had nothing..RIP kid never forgotten..
Hi my mum worked for pinewood back in the 50s up until the late 60s..she was a runner for the actors got them tea and food she would tell me stories about the stars people she liked and stars she didn't her favourite was Terry Thomas what a gentleman and funny always made my mum a cup of tea loved to chat..another was joan sims again a lovely lady..she told me Peter sellers was on set one day they were filming carry on don't lose your head Peter asked Peter Rogers if he could play a bit part for free he was told no..shame really..my mum had lots of stories she told me it fun and loved working with the crazy bunch as she called them on the carry on films...
Oh my goodness! That’s amazing - I love that! Thank you so much for sharing that! Sounds like my perfect job! Truthfully I would have thoroughly enjoyed that! You must have loved listening to those stories! Did she ever meet Diana Dors do you know?
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! I'm not entirely sure why their daughter died so young - I do know that she had health issues all her life including asthma but more than that I don't know - it's just so very sad xx
The first time I ever saw this actress was recently in carry on loving. Then read about her life bless her. Hope she’s at peace now. I loved Imogen in carry on loving she was great and stood out in my mind and the film. I’m amazed she was not cast in more carry on films. Make me wonder why. This ladies life made me feel so sad for what she had been through. It really it luck of the draw in this life 😢
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Imogen Hassell did indeed make a memorable impression in "Carry On Loving." It’s always a bit of a mystery why certain actors don’t appear in more films, but it often comes down to a variety of factors beyond just talent. Her life had its share of challenges, and it’s touching to see how her story has affected you, to be absolutely honest I feel the same and visiting her final resting place was very emotional for me. I hope she has found peace, and I appreciate you watching and reflecting on her legacy. xxxxx
For me she will always be remembered as Jenny Grubb in Carry On Loving. Beautiful and talented lady. It is such a tragedy that someone with so much to give felt she couldn't go on. Those lovely roses are a fitting tribute to her.
She was adorable as Jenny! I agree with you - it was a terrible tragedy 💔 taking the roses was such a privilege and the least I could do 💐 I thought she was just magnificent ❤️❤️❤️

I agree with you that her performance in Carry On Loving was excellent, she and Jacki Piper were fantastic in it, i had thought she would have been very good in another of my favourite Carry On's, that of Carry On at Your Convienence. A sad end for a beautiful woman with many demons that she never really could escape from. Rip Imogen.
I always felt she should have been in more of the Carry Ons! I would also have LOVED to have seen Dias Dors in a Carry On! But yes absolutely sad for Imogen so much potential lost ❤️🌹
I’m really enjoying perusing your video archive. You do a marvellous job of instilling interest in celebrities with whom I’m only barely familiar. You’re honouring these stars as the very human beings they were. It’s something you deserve to be proud of. BTW, what exactly do you consider a “blistering hot” day in England? (Australian asking)
Bless her she was very beautiful. Thankfully she's now back with her daughter. Me and miss hassall would have got on as work is important but nothing is more important than family. God speed and much love and affection to you miss hassall.
I had read somewhere that Imogen Hassall had died in childbirth. Having previously thought her cause of death was suicide, which you have confirmed. A tragedy whatever the cause. Imogen Hassall could have gone into writing, directing etc. Rest In Peace beautiful Imogen 💐
One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Just stunning. Obviously know her best from Carry On Loving but as a big horror fan remember her in Incense for the Damned with Patrick Macnee, Patrick Mower and Peter Cushing. She was also in an episode of Jason King.
I'm delighted to hear you appreciate Imogen Hassall's beauty and talent. She indeed left a lasting impression with her roles, and it's fantastic that you remember her from Carry On Loving, Incense for the Damned, and Jason King, I have to admit I have not seen Jason King but will look out for it! Her versatility as an actress was truly commendable 🌟
I suffer from severe anxiety ptsd . I often wonder if id knocked on her front dooor the day before , could I of convinced her not to take her own life. I know through my own experiences that's it's a dark deep pit. Yes, I thought she was the prettiest woman ever. One of my first crush when I was a teenager. A sad loss to all.
It’s such a sad situation as from what I could gather from my research is that she hadn’t wanted to go ahead with it but wasn’t able to make the call that might have made the difference x I understand what you’re saying too - it certainly can be a dark deep pit x ❤️
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre , definitely! I'm currently watching your videos and am fascinated by most of them! I haven't finished yet but I'm continually looking forward to the next one! Even people I've never heard of!!😁
Such bad luck with all her experience of motherhood 😢 it seems her glamour girl image didn't help her career either. Must have been hard for actresses of the time to be aging out of glamour roles after trading on their beauty
Thank you for this I know it was a tragic end but will learn more about Imogen now. ‘ Loving ‘ is one of my top 4 of the films and never get bored of watching this. Amazing scene when Terry goes to ‘ The Grubbs’ home and their all sat in the living room. Imogen ( Jenny Grubb ) says to Terry ‘ I have put it in ‘ - Terrys face ‘ Pardon’ ? to which Jenny says ‘ The sugar ‘. Great all star cast in this about a dating agency and who can ever forget Cooking fat - well it sounded like they called it that 😂 ❤️❤️
Fooking cat 🤣🤣🤣 they are all so brilliant in it! Although Imogen looks stunning including ‘before’ the makeover! I haven’t watched it for a while - I need a Carry On fest - There’s a piece in the magazines Yours Retro this month about the Carry Ons but I’ve not read it yet - it’s on my ‘to do’ list!
@@Paul-11 now you’re asking!!!! It’s a struggle 🤣 I particularly love Carry On Nurse! But it’s truly hard to have a favourite - fortunately I have the box set of 30 films! 🤣🤣🤭
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Nurse was amazing made for the cinemas back in the day ( as all were ) must have sold out many times over, very popular. You can watch them and always pick something new out .
For months, I've occasionally walked past her Wimbledon home and there is a somewhat wish that stepping on the pavement will have you magically go back to 1979, but judging from the video, I doubt she'd want any attention, particularly at that point, possibly save her, possibly not. You can't really delude that you are in 1980 but can do just imagine her walking near her house. I have a lot to say after watching this 14 billion times and vising her, there's a lot of things to question and say. Other better known actresses like Ingrid Pitt and Barbara Windsor had better careers and they've shown a lot of skin. There are some Hammer, Carry On, Benny Hill actresses who had short/reduced careers, maybe married, hated repeated roles(like Imogen) and stuff like that, but I haven't delved deep to know further with the less well-known. If she is known to have two miscarriages, what about the 4 years with Kenneth Ives after the pre-marital birth, couldn't she have waited til her 40s with Andrew Knox? Regardless of her traditional views, couldn't she, in a growing feminist environment have had arguments with casting directors. Very sad life with lots of limited potential. #suicidepreventionmonth
Thank you for sharing your thoughtful reflections on Imogen Hassall. It’s lovely that you feel connected to her when passing by her Wimbledon home. Her life, as you mentioned, was filled with contradictions, and while others like Ingrid Pitt and Barbara Windsor navigated similar career paths, Imogen seemed never quite managed to navagate her career in the same way. Your points about her relationships, miscarriages, and the pressures she faced-both personally and professionally-raise important questions. Her story is indeed tragic, and as you noted with #suicidepreventionmonth, it’s a reminder of the importance of mental health and support. Thank you for your insightful comment xxxx
I was crazy about this lady ever since carry on loving. She stole that movie for me with her comic timing and obvious gorgeousness. The scene at the start where Terry meets her decrepit family and time nearly stops. Class. Nice touch opening the vid with her picking chocolate out of her cleavage… really got my attention. Love chocolate;-)
😂😂😂 Well to be absolutely honest with you - as much as I love Imogen and I absolutely do - Gareth Hunt was always someone I was crazy over! So it was just the absolute perfect clip all round 😂 Thank you so much for watching! x
Very interesting. Thanks. I'll ho to Wimbledon to visit. It seems her demons are the reason her marriages didn't last. I'm surprised she was only in one Carry On, she was just the type for those films.
A little bit of extra information for you. This lovely Lady also had a third share, in partnership with two other women, in a Wine Bar, (Le Chavalier), in Fulham Road, near Parsons Green.
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre . You’re welcome. I do remember that one of the partners in the business was named Sue, (I wonder if that was the actress Lady you mentioned in your video)? Can’t remember the third partners name though.
@Beautiful Bad and Bizarre Loved them since the first time I watched it when I was a kid. It was introduced on our ABC network (American Broadcasting Company) in the USA! What a wonderful series! Iwatching it on a free channel through Prime. I never saw the movie version starring Ralph Finnes and Uma Thurman. A lot of people said it was awful. Finnes a great John Steed, but Thurman in the lead, nope. Should have been a British actress instead. But that's just my opinion. Thanks for these stories. I'll keep watching!
Actually to be honest I never watched the film with Uma Thurman! I live in the past too much 🤭 that was way too modern for me 🤣 I love the originals with a few exceptions xx thank you so much - I’m glad you enjoy the channel - that makes my day! ❤️❤️❤️

Another pleasant, respectful, and well composed film. Love your work.
Thank you very much! Xx
Fantastic look into Imogen’s life, absolutely stunning lady,so beautiful and talented…..love your channel not been watching long but very informative ect look forward to more👍😉

It would have! She did such a lot of stage work and had some amazing reviews! I’d have loved to see her on stage - I really would have!
That’s so lovely - thank you -she was indeed talented and so very beautiful - it was such a sad ending 💔 xx
Hey great actress and she was a beautiful woman ..... Died too young Rip thanks for posting this x 💯😊
She was stunning wasn’t she! ❤️
Been to the grave several times, actually met another guy there one time who had brought along flowers, I wish she could know how loved she still is 😞
It's so lovely to see her stone is very much cared for - I wonder if that person you met is the one that looks after her stone? xx I'll be popping in with flowers again soon x
These videos that you are producing are really interesting and informative Shar. Keep 'em coming, and thank you 🙂
Thank you so much, your comment is very much appreciated! Thank you also for watching ❤️❤️❤️
Poor Imogen suffering the loss of her 2 babies 😪 I hope she's now at peace 💞
So sad - a devastating loss ❤️😢
In those days people routinely smoked and drank when they were pregnant. Not saying she did but it would not be a surprise.
Thanks for the upload.
Very interesting.
I remember Imogen Hassall very well.
You've done a lot of research BTW and it shows in your uploads
Very sad case . Very sad
Thank you so very much! It was terribly sad xx
Great! I particularly loved imo in EL CONDOR. Do you know Dan leissner if you don’t mind me asking?
Thank you! I watched El Condor years ago - I need to have a refresh! I know of Dan Leissner’s book on Imogen - but I haven’t read it - and I don’t know him personally.
Thanks, did not realise she had such a troubled life RIP
You’re very welcome ❤️
This lady was a bit before my time and due to her sadly passing young she was never someone whose name I knew. She was stunning though, and you can see why she had the nickname she did. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you so much Pete and thanks for watching! Imogen was stunningly beautiful - the scene at the beginning of the video is one of my favourites 🤭 I’m a big fan of Gareth Hunt! ❤️❤️❤️

I hope she has found peace, and I appreciate you watching and reflecting on her legacy. xxxxx
I remember her appearing quite often on TV back in the 1970's as you say, she was a very attractive young woman, such a shame about her domestic life.
Yes she was often on the TV - I would have loved to have seen her stage performances ❤️ she was by all accounts brilliant on stage! ❤️❤️❤️
A truly beautiful woman. Such a sad loss.
Loved her in the carry on film, she was absolutely stunning, brilliant & respectful video R.I.P. ❤️💔

Yes it was 😢❤️
I agree with you that her performance in Carry On Loving was excellent, she and Jacki Piper were fantastic in it, i had thought she would have been very good in another of my favourite Carry On's, that of Carry On at Your Convienence.
It’s something you deserve to be proud of.

so sad how this talented lady passed away
I had read somewhere that
Imogen Hassall had died in childbirth.
Having previously thought her cause of death was suicide, which you have confirmed.
A tragedy whatever the cause.
Imogen Hassall could have gone into writing, directing etc.
Rest In Peace beautiful Imogen 💐
I think she could have gone into writing etc too - she came from such a creative background - it was such a sad ending xxx thank you for watching xxx
I forgot to add that Imogen's father Christopher Hassle was lyricist for several of Ivor Novello's biggest most famous operettas.
Yes he was! ❤❤❤
My favourite Carry On and she was very memorable.

Wonderful, different amazing creature ...stunning, ...shame
Very much so ❤ xx
So sad.x
I do agree - very sad indeed xxxx
I was crazy about this lady ever since carry on loving. She stole that movie for me with her comic timing and obvious gorgeousness. The scene at the start where Terry meets her decrepit family and time nearly stops. Class. Nice touch opening the vid with her picking chocolate out of her cleavage… really got my attention. Love chocolate;-)
😂😂😂 Well to be absolutely honest with you - as much as I love Imogen and I absolutely do - Gareth Hunt was always someone I was crazy over! So it was just the absolute perfect clip all round 😂 Thank you so much for watching! x
