First of all, Hats off to you: what you did was marvellous! You can not forget that this isn’t a normal masters where everything in life is still while we study, we literally had to overcome challenges happening in our life, maintain our social status back home and also in Europe, fight COVID consequences and ALSO maintain all bureaucratic stuff. So you handled everything very gracefully!! 🎉 Congratulations for that. Secondly, I understand that coming home wasn’t the plan but can I just tell u one thing? THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THIS DARK TUNNEL. God WILL take you there. I lived in Europe for 5years and felt like a failure when I came back to Nigeria, people told me I was crazy for making that move, I slowly let their thoughts sink me into depression. One day, I choose to pull myself out of it by reminding myself of what God had told me before I came back, understanding that I am living for his approval and not the applauds or approval of men. I am certain you had a strong resolve why you made the move back, hold unto that why, hold unto why you went in the first place to study a course so rare. Hold unto that passion. God’s path is never easy but always worth it. You are not a failure!!
Pharmacist here, based in Milan, in Italy for 10+ years - Don't beat up yourself too much, Italy is not easy at all for immigrants also for language, bureacratic and sociocultural issues. Hi Desire, I was a beneficiary of similar program, Realmaths double degree in 2022, but because it was tough and arriving late, my first semester didn’t go well, and I had to drop to a been a local student. Got married in 2023, and finished last month. Like you rightly said, it’s tough to navigate any jobs without the language requirements, and the language is hard to learn. Had to enrol in CPIA(government anchored language school) while I was fortunate to get an inventory clerk job, but outside the city my sch was located. I understand your pain, maybe not as much as you, but when things don’t go your way, and Italian schools will literally mess with your mental health. I salute your courage, and I pray you do well and achieve your goals henceforth. If you don’t mind, let’s connect, I’m still in Italy at the moment. Mine was UK and I struggled in my studies and with the thought of having to come back to Nigeria. I was offered marriage opportunity to stay back which I rejected. I had friends who had plans to move to USA, stay back or had relationships working out for them to stay and I appeared to be the boring one with no plans. People made it seem like coming back to Nigeria is a FAILURE which I was living in and accepting of that stigma. I beat myself up a lot in 2019 when I got back. I had so many panic attacks in UK debating with the struggle of getting a job on time to avoid coming back to Nigeria. DESIRE this is not a failure. You are simply living in a pathway that God will reveal to you, stop letting this foolish Nigerian mentality of coming back derail you from your destiny. You can come back and become a renowned cosmetologist in the Nigerian space known to the world, being the best for your country such that if you were abroad that star⭐ might be deemed by the whites. I totally relate to your story and I take every opportunity to encourage girls like me in this story to not allow the ney Sayers label you/them. Stay strong and let us link up if possible. I relate to every word you said. I had never had anxiety Until I lived in the UK. Pandemic hit in the middle of my dissertation. Words cannot explain. Panic attacks, waking up with sweats. If you are an international student from Africa in a non english speaking country, do not prioritize grades as long as they are sufficient to graduate except you plan to remain in academia and its not easy to get a faculty position after getting a Phd. Job hunting and learning the language should be the priority from the day you land in that country.
You're not a failure. Because things aren't working as planned, it doesn't mean you're a failure. Beating yourself up is a waste of time. Just move forward. You've not seen the best part of your life yet. Pick yourself back up and move forward.

My darling Desire, maybe you do not give yourself much credit. You are a hard worker, that much was evident the few days I spent with you. Also, juggling all that you do, it's a lot of work. One thing I'd say is we never know why things happen but I always like to believe that everything happens for a reason, even the things we absolutely cannot understand and that reason is God's will.
